10 observations: Bills shake things up along offensive line in wild win

‘“Coming out at halftime and talking before coming out, we were really just talking to the guys and saying, ‘Keep playing, keep playing. We aren’t out of it.’ On offense, we had to finish our drives with touchdowns,” Woods said. “We’re never out of it. We know we’re a great team. We’ve just got to play like that for all four quarters and not just turn it on at the end of the game. Looking at the clock, we knew we were down, but we had plenty of time. In the second half, we just had to make plays. Finally get going, start playing Rams football. That’s what we did, pretty much shutting them out until the last seconds of the game.”’

Quarter by quarter: Epic final drive caps Bills shootout win over Rams

‘The Rams opted to sit back in zone coverage rather than blitz. Allen skewered them.’

Report Card: With defense again struggling, passing game comes to the rescue

‘It was a day to forget for everyone defensively. The Rams piled up 167 yards on the ground, led by Darrell Henderson, who gashed the Bills for 114 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. We’ve been waiting to see if the Bills would miss Star Lotulelei in the middle of the defense, and a case can reasonably be made that they did so big time against Los Angeles. Middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds made just five tackles and did not look close to being himself. Cornerback Taron Johnson had an up-and-down game – more on that in a bit – but did make two tackles for loss. Matt Milano was all over the field in his first game back, finishing with eight tackles. The Bills’ defensive tackles – Ed Oliver, Quinton Jefferson, Harrison Phillips and Vernon Butler – combined for just three tackles. The middle of the Bills’ defense was soft against the run all day.’

Disaster averted as Bills, Josh Allen avoid epic loss, defeat Rams 35-32

‘However, the key word there is “most” because after opening a seemingly insurmountable 28-3 lead seven minutes into the third quarter, then falling apart in inexplicable fashion to the point where they were on the brink of one of the most deplorable losses in team history, they somehow managed to pull out a 35-32 victory at empty Bills Stadium.’

Josh Allen and the offense bail out the 3-0 Bills again as defense is struggling

‘Here’s another indication of how poorly the Bills’ defense played: It didn’t force the Rams to punt once on nine possessions (not counting the last one after Buffalo went ahead). The only highlights were Levi Wallace’s interception to kill one LA drive, and then early in the third the Bills stopped a fourth-down play, which essentially is a turnover.’

Bills report card: Josh Allen turns to unlikely heroes for the win

‘“We haven’t asked a bunch from our tight ends, so to kind of step in and catch two touchdown passes for us … ” Allen said of Kroft. “And you look at Lee Smith, he suits up today for the first time this season, comes in, scores a touchdown. This team is just made up of selfless guys that are just trying to do their job when their numbers called.”’

Maybe we have to get used to ‘Good-Bad’ Josh

‘For the 10th time in 30 starts, he had fashioned the game-winning drive, eight of them fourth-quarter comebacks and that’s a statistic which can’t be dismissed as mere coincidence.’

Bills fashion franchise’s 11th 3-0 season start

‘The Bills have now started the season at least 3-0 for the 11th time in the franchise’s 61-year history. It’s the third time they’ve done it in consecutive years, as it also happened in 1964 and ‘65 and 1991 and ‘92.’

Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen leads game-winning drive after defense collapses vs. Rams (Instant observations)

‘After holding the Rams to just three points in the first half, Los Angeles scored 29 points in the second as Jared Goff carved up the Bills’ secondary. It didn’t matter who Goff went after, the Bills weren’t getting any pressure and Robert Woods and company were devastating the Buffalo secondary. Goff finished with 309 yards and a pair of touchdowns, one to Cooper Kupp and the other to Robert Woods, who both combined for 169 yards.’

Tyler Kroft, Josh Allen save Bills from meltdown vs. Rams (11 reasons to be encouraged, 3 reasons to be worried)

‘Leslie Frazier’s defense has been beat up in back-to-back weeks. Last week there were a few built in excuses with the team missing Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds. It’s possible that neither linebacker was at 100% today, but both were on the field. That didn’t stop the Rams from gaining close to 500 yards on offense.’

Josh Allen, Bills offense lead late comeback vs. Rams (Week 3 report card)

‘Sean McDermott said the Bills were out-executed by the Rams’ offense on Sunday and that may be an understatement with the Rams recording nearly 500 yards of total offense.’

Bills QB Josh Allen has apology form making rounds on social media (Pass it on)

‘Don’t feel too bad if you find yourself among the group of people who may be filling out an apology form. You have some good company.’

Bills vs. Rams Inactives: A.J. Epenesa active over Darryl Johnson, Buffalo receives good news on injury front

‘Moss, Knox and Phillips are all out due to injuries while Fromm and Boettger continue to find themselves on the inactive list due to the team’s health at quarterback and along the offensive line. The only moderate surprise is the addition of Darryl Johnson.’

Bills Mafia fundraises over $5k to fly banner over stadium for Sunday’s game vs. Rams

‘A group of Bills fans raised $5,367 to fly a banner by plane over Bills Stadium before the start of the game. The cost of the banner was $3,800. So the rest of the money ($1,567) will be donated to The Teacher’s Desk, a Western New York charity that helps teachers shop for free school supplies for students.’

Five takeaways: Allen’s third-straight 300-yard day, late game heroics lead Bills past Rams

‘After turning the ball over on downs to open the third quarter, the next four Rams’ drives resulted in touchdowns. The Bills second-half defensive woes continued as, a week after allowing Dolphins’ QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to air things out in the second half, the Bills allowed Goff to pick them apart for much of the final 30 minutes of this game. While it appeared dominant in the early going, the Buffalo defense struggled at times this afternoon, and whether they’re able to rebound next week will be something to watch.’
