Players on the bubble eager for Bills preseason finale

‘“That’s how you break yourself when you put too much pressure on yourself,” said wide receiver Duke Williams. “It’s just another game, it’s just football. I’m going to go out there and play my game, try not to do too much and control what I can. Make plays when the ball comes my way and make them feel me in the run game.”’

Bills Today: What makes the chemistry in the quarterbacks’ room so special?

‘“We transformed the style of receivers, just added more speed and quickness,” Barkley said. “We love to go fast and move the ball. Added a lot of talent this year to be able to do that and already, even though Bease [Cole Beasley] couldn’t do much in OTAs, he and Josh have great chemistry so far and Smoke [John Brown] and everyone else.”’

‘Well, there’s always work to be done but having Mitch back is obviously great for us as an offense. The knowledge that he brings, the communication, the leadership that he brings. It’s just fun to have him out there again. There’s still a lot of things to work on that we’re going through through practice. Unfortunately we won’t have those in-game reps, but knowing Mitch and his background and how long he’s played at such a high level. So I’m not worried at all.’

‘“[Watching] the greatest quarterback to ever do it, how he changes certain things, on certain coverages what he thinks and where his eyes go, just picking up on little things. … He just knows the game so well, he understands situational football, he’s not going to force the ball into too many windows, he understands his checkdowns, he knows where his outlets are, he’s fine with taking 2-3 yards on a throw. … He trusts his offense and he trusts his receivers and running backs to go make plays for him. And that’s something that this year, we’ll be doing a better job of.”’

Bills sloppy in third preseason game

‘A positive takeaway from the game was the return of rookie tight end Dawson Knox, who saw his first game action of the preseason after dealing with a hamstring injury throughout the past several weeks. Another rookie, wide receiver Duke Williams, caught his second touchdown pass in as many weeks and is making a late push for a roster spot. Running back Devin Singletary, also a rookie, scored a touchdown on his lone carry of the first half.’
