Archives for July 2019

Following dismal season, McCoy set to return as Bills starter, but it will be all hands on deck for Buffalo RBs in 2019

‘“He’s very confident, when you talk to him, that he still sees himself up here. I don’t think you’re changing that, and I wouldn’t want him to think any different, but we’re focused on this year. That’s what we have him under contract for, and I definitely think he’s got enough left in the tank to help us in 2019.”’

With injury to Kroft, Bills rookie tight ends have great opportunity in front of them

‘Both Knox, and former Boston College standout Tommy Sweeney are said to be capable of performing well in the pass game as well as when it comes to run blocking and pass protection, but it’s believed that Knox has more upside of the two. Whatever the case may be, Bills’ offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is excited for what’s to come from his evolving tight end group.’

All eyes will be on Josh Allen during Bills training camp

‘In all likelihood, he never is going to become a supremely accurate thrower, say, like a Drew Brees, who completed an NFL record 74 percent of his throws last season. Allen probably will struggle to reach the 60 percent mark. But the Bills can still succeed with him in the high 50s if he is able to improve not only on his short and intermediate throws, but also by putting his receivers in the best position to make plays. Allen has a big-arm and a big-play mentality. Nothing wrong with that. And as he showed, he can make huge plays with his legs, not only by evading pass rushers, but also by reeling off long gains. Nothing wrong with that either. But he needs to rely slightly less on the deep ball and his legs. There’s nothing wrong with settling for a five- or six-yard dump-off to keep the chains moving.’

Ex-Texans GM Brian Gaine back with Bills scouting department

‘Gaine replaced former Texans general manager Rick Smith in January 2018 when Smith took a leave of absence to care for his wife, TIffany, who later died of cancer.’

Bills Place OL Sirles On Injured Reserve; Sign OL Asiata

‘Sirles has five seasons of NFL experience and had five starts in 12 games after signing with the Bills in late September.’

Brian Gaine Returns To Buffalo Bills As Special Adviser

‘As an executive, he worked under Hall of Famer Bill Parcells with the New York Jets, Dallas and Miami.’

Bills hiring former Texans GM Gaine as advisor

‘He adds another layer of experience to the well-regarded front office built by Beane and coach Sean McDermott, which includes another former general manager in Dennis Hickey, who serves as a senior national scout for the team.’

Bills sign guard Isaac Asiata, safety Abraham Wallace

‘Asiata, selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Utah, played one game for the Dolphins in his rookie year. He was waived prior to the 2018 regular season, but then signed to the team’s practice squad and was promoted to the active roster in early November, playing one game.’

Bills hire Brian Gaine as a senior personnel advisor

‘Gaine was reportedly interviewed by the Bills for their open general manager job before it was eventually given to Beane.’

Bills make rosters moves before start of camp

‘In corresponding moves, offensive lineman Jeremiah Sirles (foot) was placed on injured reserve and wide receiver De’Mari Scott was released.’

Brian Gaine returns to the Bills

‘Gaine came to the Bills in 2017 as the Vice President of Player Personnel and left in 2018 to become the General Manager of the Houston Texans.’

Positional Preview: Offensive Line

‘How the dominos fall at tackle will go a long way in determining who ends up starting at guard. Wyatt Teller, Spencer Long, Quinton Spain, and Jon Feliciano are the front-runners to snag spot on the interior of the line. The battle for starting jobs along the offensive line will be a daily talking point during training camp.’

4 Players to watch at training camp

‘Dawson Knox has a very good chance to win the starting tight end job during training camp. The Bills drafted Knox in the 3rd round but I’m not sure they believed he would be in this position. Free agent addition Tyler Kroft was injured on the first day OTA’s and his return is still in question. The door is open for Knox and if he wins the starting job, there’s a good chance he never gives it back.’

Bills sign safety Abraham Wallace, offensive lineman Isaac Asiata

‘Wallace (5-10, 192) is a familiar face from the spring. He signed with the Bills after making good on a tryout opportunity during the team’s rookie minicamp this past May. He was released by the club on May 22nd when injuries at tight end forced the Bills to sign a free agent tight end during OTA practices.’

Bills hire Brian Gaine as Senior Personnel Advisor

‘The Bills now have their original front office team under Beane back together, plus Dan Morgan, making Buffalo’s personnel department one of the most experienced in the league when it comes to scouting and evaluating prospects and players.’
