Bills coach Sean McDermott feels ‘really good’ about Josh Allen’s growth

‘“I thought both offensively and defensively, the staffs made good adjustments through the game, which is important. And then Josh took those adjustments and ran with them. Started to exploit some of what they were doing with his legs and then with his arm as well down the field.”’

Upon further review: Penalty problems show no signs of letting up for Bills

‘“We can’t ignore those. Whether they’re accurate or not accurate, that’s for another time, but we can’t ignore that and expect to win games going forward. Good football teams don’t beat themselves, and we had opportunities to continue to move the chains. A couple of those were penalties on ensuing first downs there, and we shot ourselves in the foot. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and make sure we get those corrected.”’

Video Review: Josh Allen takes advantage of empty sets to scorch Dolphins

‘The Bills snapped the ball nine times from the spread formation and netted 75 yards. That included three Allen runs for 70 yards. Allen was 3 of 4 passing for 20 yards from empty sets with two sacks for 15 yards in losses.’

Position Grades: Yardage gap was most in a Bills loss in five years

‘The Bills totaled 415 yards while holding Miami to 175. The last time the Bills lost despite such an advantage was a 2013 home defeat to Kansas City, in which the Bills outgained the Chiefs by 260.’

Jim Kubiak: How command of trajectory can help Josh Allen’s development

‘The analysis of Allen’s physical performance begins with his footwork, his technique, his velocity and sense of trajectory throwing the football. Allen’s drops were better and more decisive than in any past performance. He is getting the necessary depth as well as keeping his feet underneath his shoulders while in the pocket. This minor detail is significant and minimizes Allen’s chances of overstriding on his throws. He has become methodical and disciplined in the pocket, setting up quickly and being in position to throw the football down the field.’

DA assessing whether deputies in brutal arrest lied on court documents

‘On Dec. 3, 2017, the deputies completed documents charging Belsito with disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental administration and criminal mischief. They said Belsito, who was tailgating before a Bills game, had engaged in “violent, tumultuous and threatening behavior” outside New Era Field. He also had fought with them and caused a “public inconvenience,” the deputies wrote in the documents. But video from a body camera worn by Flowers shows none of that.’

Maiorana: Buffalo Bills need to clean up their act when it comes to penalties

‘Ryan’s 2015 Bills tied for the league lead with Tampa Bay in total penalties, a whopping 143 that included 68 infractions against the offense, 50 against the defense and 25 on special teams. Through 12 games this year, the Bills have already had 100 penalties walked off for a total of 872 yards, both figures are second-most in the NFL behind only Kansas City.’

Pollock: For the Bills, penalties hurt, Allen improved

‘Sunday marked the sixth time Buffalo was flagged for at least 10 penalties in a game and the fourth occasion where the yardage exceeded 100.’

Bills’ Sean McDermott on Josh Allen vs Miami, penalties and more

‘The offensive line was caught for multiple holding and false start calls and they were costly, he said.’

Official confronted by Jerry Hughes previously suspended for player incident

‘The official in question appears to be Roy Ellison. Pro Football Reference confirmed that Ellison was one of the officials for the Bills and Dolphins game. What makes this interesting is that Ellison has a history of saying derogatory things to NFL players. In 2013, Ellison was suspended one game without pay for making a ‘profane and derogatory statement’ toward Washington offensive lineman Trent Williams.’

Penalties, errors spoil Allen’s big day for Bills

‘Sloppiness and mistakes spoiled a fine performance by the rookie quarterback, who took another step forward against Miami. Allen threw for 231 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while adding a franchise-record for a quarterback of 135 yards on the ground, topping the mark he established one week earlier against Jacksonville.’

Bills’ Hughes gives ref an earful after loss

‘”I lost the game so I’m supposed to be angry,” Hughes said, still thinking the assembled media was buying his act. “We just played our butts off for four quarters and we came six inches short of winning the football game. So I think myself, with a lot of Buffalo Bills fans, are probably upset right now. That’s just the nature of sports. Someone is going to win and someone is going to lose.”‘

Report: Bills center Bodine had surgery on broken leg

‘Bodine played his first four years in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, but was signed by the Bills as a free agent this past offseason to a two-year, $5 million contract after losing Eric Wood to retirement. He then won the starting center job over Groy after a lengthy training camp battle.’

McDermott: “Would’ve liked to see [Charles Clay] come back to Josh a little bit”

‘”What you probably didn’t see was Zay Jones coming open over the middle. Josh [Allen] had to escape the pocket… Our protection broke down too early… Josh had to go off schedule… Just one of those opportunities we weren’t able to take advantage of.”‘

Williams: “[Josh Allen] is only going to get better”

‘”What’s exciting is what he can do with his arm, with his legs and what he can do while on the run. Plays break down, and one spy is not enough to bring him down. He’s a hard guy to play man coverage against… He can do a lot of different things at a high level. He’s only going to get better.”‘
