Plays that Shaped the Game: Valiant Bills’ defense gets overshadowed

‘Peterman now has nine interceptions in 79 pass attempts, an INT rate of 11.39 percent.’

Quarterly Report: Nightmare for Peterman, Bills special teams

‘Besides the blocked punt, the Bills also had a hold (by Deon Lacey) on a punt and an offsides (by Andre Holmes) on a kickoff. The only redeeming play was a 60-yard punt by Corey Bojorquez from his own end zone with a hang time of 5.15 seconds. It flipped the field for the Bills.’

Bills-Texans Report Card: Offensive, special-teams shortcomings too much to overcome

‘I mean, seriously, how much worse can it get? From the first play of the game for the special teams to the last, it was awful. Ray-Ray McCloud fumbled twice on his only two catches. With a chance to give his team good field position after the Texans tied the game late, Taiwan Jones bobbled the kickoff and was buried inside the 20-yard line. Don’t even get me started on the blocked punt, which was horrendous. To put the cherry on top of this stink sundae, there were penalty problems, too. Just awful, save for the two field goals Stephen Hauschka made, including one from 52 yards.’

Pick-six: Nathan Peterman’s interception in the players’ words

‘“Really, they were bringing pressure, I had made a check and just a bad decision; can’t chalk it up to anything more than that. But this is something I’m going to learn from. It was a critical time. I thought there are just so many lessons out there for me to learn and get better from.”’

Bills defense can’t overcome another awful offensive day in loss to Texans

‘We are witnessing before our eyes, week after week after week, one of the worst offenses the 59-year-old Buffalo Bills have ever fielded.’

Bills’ quarterback situation has hit rock bottom and Peterman, Benjamin need to go

‘Yeah, that’s what Cottrell was trying to do, stir something up. Sorry, but I’m going with what she heard. And given that Benjamin has 10 catches for 146 yards in six games this season, McDermott and Beane should go with her version, too, and ship this guy out of town.’

Sunday report: Bills are unlikely to trade LeSean McCoy

‘Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network wrote that if there were talks between the sides, they never amounted to much, mainly because the Bills aren’t interested in trading McCoy at this time. In fact, according to one of Rapoport’s sources (likely McCoy’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus), the Bills have indicated they would like to keep McCoy for 2019 as well, the final year of the five-year, $40 million contract extension they gave him when they acquired him from the Eagles in 2015.’

Report card

‘It has become comical (or just sad, depending on your point of view) just how bad the Bills are at the most elemental things on offense. They do not have a functioning quarterback, they do not have receivers who can get open, and the game plans aren’t helping. It’s awfully tough to win under these circumstances. Josh Allen was once again terrible before leaving with an elbow injury and 84 yards passing. And then Peterman, after stunning us all with a go-ahead TD pass, returned to form with a game-losing pick six. Kelvin Benjamin made a 39-yard catch and took most of the rest of the day off. Zay Jones caught the TD from Peterman, but finished with three catches. The Bills had 129 net yards passing, so their ranking of dead last in the NFL will not improve.’

Pollock: This Buffalo loss rests with Beane and McDermott

‘Ever since the roster cut to 53, plus the practice squad, I’ve been critical of the Bills’ folly of going with only two quarterbacks … especially a pair of young ones. Beane and McDermott determined that rookie first-round draft pick Josh Allen and Peterman, who came into this season having thrown exactly 49 passes — five of them intercepted — with the worst one-half performance by a Buffalo quarterback in franchise history on his resume, were adequate to man pro football’s most demanding position.’

Notebook: Bills force three turnovers against Texans QB Watson

‘uffalo sacked Watson seven times with veteran tackle Kyle Williams getting two, 1 ½ of those on consecutive plays. Backup safety Rafael Bush, shared the sack with Williams, the first of his NFL career.’

Bills vs. Texans: Nathan Peterman interceptions spoil defense’s gem (9 observations)

‘The Bills defense was exemplary, sacking Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson seven times and holding Houston to 217 yards of total offense. The effort was wasted as the offense and special teams committed costly turnovers and had trouble sustaining drives throughout the game.’

Bills give away game late to Texans: 4 reasons to be encouraged, 4 reasons to worry

‘The offense is the biggest reason why the Bills lost on Sunday, but their returners did not do them any favors.’

Bills leaders Lorenzo Alexander, Kyle Williams won’t blame offense for loss

‘”We don’t make excuses,” Alexander said. “We have to go out there and put our team in a position to win games regardless of what’s going on on the other side of the ball. We’re supposed to be the leaders and lead the way. If that means only allowing three points every week, if that’s what it takes to win then we expect ourselves to do it.”‘

DeAndre Hopkins did ‘a lot of crying to the refs,’ says Bills CB Tre’Davious White

‘White may have a point. One of penalties called against the Bills’ No. 1 cornerback was thrown well after a play was over. Before the flag was tossed, DeAndre Hopkins was shown complaining in the direction of a referee.’

After another Nathan Peterman meltdown, Bills must go in new direction at backup QB

‘The problem for the Bills is that with a rookie quarterback as the starter, the backup needs to be somebody McDermott can trust.’
