'A couple of starting positions on defense were up for grabs coming into camp, but so far there aren't any major surprises. In the secondary, Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer are roaming the safety positions while Ron Darby and rookie Tre White have the corner spots locked down.'

'Phillips combined with his predecessor, Marv Levy, to coach 230 games. The 256 games since then have seen eight different coaches. And to be fair, many of those eight said the same things that McDermott and Beane were saying on Thursday.'

'“I think we play best when we can attack, no matter what label you want to put on the front. When we can be aggressive, use our athletic ability and our strength and power, I think that’s when we’re at our best.”'

'"That's easy," he said of the milestone. "I'm gonna have a big year this year, I'm gonna win some games. So that's easy, 30 — 10 years."'

'There is a legitimate and healthy competition going on for the team’s nickel cornerback position between Kevon Seymour and Leonard Johnson. Seymour played 15 games last season, starting three of them as a rookie. The 27-year old Johnson played the nickel CB spot for head coach Sean McDermott last year in Carolina and for Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier when he was in the same position in Tampa. Through two days, Johnson has been getting the starting reps as the extra DB with Seymour working in after that. However, Seymour also got some work on the outside with the second-unit defense with Shareece Wright on the other side opposite him.'

'“I haven’t even put in thought about it,” he said. “My job is to go out there and try to catch as many touchdowns and balls and help this team win. Everything else will play out and I have got to earn it.'

'Sammy Watkins has looked very good in the first two practices of training camp. Our own Sal Capaccio was on the sidelines for this one handed snag.'

'"I do want to be here but ultimately I'm likely only going to get paid one more time. Especially on what could be a lucrative contract."'

'Lawson is back as a 4-3 defensive end — a role that really suits what he does best as a player. On Friday afternoon, Lawson showed up and had his best practice — at least that the media could see — since he’s become a member of the Buffalo Bills.'

'“I feel good. I feel the same. I feel young. I feel about 25,” McCoy said. “I’m making the same runs, the same cuts. I feel good. I feel explosive. That’s my game. Explosive and quick. So when that kind of turns and that leaves then I’ll be in trouble. But for now I feel fine. I can keep doing this until I’m 33 man.”'

'“We're going to make some plays and giving the ball to him when we think he's got some chances. (McCoy’s workload) is not my expertise. I’m trying to move the offense, and certainly he's one of our playmakers on offense.”'

'“I’m just getting in shape,” he said. “I think that’s the (biggest) part. Just getting back out there and playing football with the guys and competing. Other than that, I’m fine.”

'“I’ve been here 24 hours and this has been his [Dareus] best 24 hours here,” said Williams. “All of it [mentally and physically]. Now listen. There’s tomorrow, and that’s true for all of us. But, right now, I like where he’s at.”'
