Bills stampede the Dolphins

'“That’s kind of the look we wanted … pounding the ball. And every once in awhile letting Tyrod show his true talent … throwing the ball, and actually running the ball. That’s the type of offense we want to have.”'

Bills’ Watkins makes amends for message

'“It’s about the game plan,” he said, “ Coach (Greg) Roman is a great offensive coordinator, Coach (Anthony) Lynn’s a great running backs coach. And when you put those things together and the kind of offensive line we have, the quarterback leadership we have, great things are going to come out.'

Bills had Dolphins on the run

'Williams' two touchdowns — 11 and 38 yards — marked the first time a Bills rookie running back had scored twice on the ground in the same game since Antowain Smith against Green Bay in 1997.'

On a must-win afternoon, Bills come through

'The Bills won, 33-17. Yet, despite the lopsided score, you got the distinct feeling that the head coach knew he had dodged a bullet of sorts by leaving the crowd of 70,214 with plenty to cheer about before the Bills’ back-to-back divisional road games against the New York Jets and New England Patriots.'

Jerry Hughes redeems himself in a momentum-changing way

'Hughes hadn't even played on the left side since college at TCU six-plus years ago. But through the week, coaches wanted to slide Mario Williams over the guard. In response, Miami then slid center Mike Pouncey over to double Williams. And coach Rex Ryan knew that Hughes' combination of speed and explosion could give Fox fits.'

Offense carries the load for a sputtering D

'Suddenly, the Bills are tied in the loss column for the last wild-card spot and in a muddled AFC East race with critical road games upcoming against the Jets and Pats. The defense continues to underperform and they face a stretch of five road games in six weeks. The fact that a team can be in the thick of the race in a watered-down NFL doesn’t necessarily make them a contender.'

Bills stick with the run play that works, repeatedly

'“There wasn’t much window dressing on what we were doing,” Incognito said. “They knew what we were doing and we just kept hitting them in the mouth and those long runs came.”'

Campbell makes a good call, but it backfires on Dolphins

'Campbell was completely justified in going for it – a field goal still would have meant Miami was down by two possessions at halftime. At issue is his clock management. The Dolphins got down to the 3-yard line on a 6-yard completion to running back Lamar Miller on a play that started with 29 seconds left in the half. Miller didn’t get out of bounds, though, and the Dolphins let the clock run down to 5 seconds – while possessing a timeout – before running their next play. Gilmore was flagged for pass interference in the end zone on that play, putting the ball at the 1-yard line.'

Taylor’s passing performance is one for the books

'Only 12 quarterbacks in pro football history recorded a more efficient game than Taylor did Sunday.'

With Watkins dialed in, fans reconnect

'Watkins should have resisted the urge to attack trolls on social media. He’s young and still learning. He’s going to stumble. He’s going to bobble. In the end, the only thing that matters is the result. Buffalo fans are tough, but they have warm hearts and short memories for players who produce on the field.'

Bills notebook: Hughes single-handedly kills three Dolphins drives

'“I just play football at 100 percent on every play that I’m on the field,” Hughes said, “so it doesn’t matter what play it is.”'

Vic Carucci’s Take Five: In a high-stakes game, Bills went all in

'The Bills played with a clear sense of urgency. They showed thorough understanding of the fact they could not afford a third loss in a row (and a fourth consecutive home defeat) before entering a six-game stretch with five on the road, beginning Thursday night against the New York Jets.'

Mark Gaughan’s 10 Plays: Watkins leaves Grimes in his wake

'One of the many reasons Miami finds itself in last place in the AFC East is that its cornerback group is the weakest of any team in the division. Veteran Brent Grimes made the Pro Bowl each of the past two years for Miami, but he’s not having a good season this year. He was no match for Sammy Watkins on Sunday'

Mark Gaughan’s Matchup Winners: Bills 33, Dolphins 17

'Suh, the four-time All-Pro, is a force, and the Bills showed him respect. Buffalo ran away from him on at least two thirds of its running plays. Still, the Bills let John Miller, their rookie third-round draft pick, single-block him a lot. Miller did a decent job. Unofficially, we counted only eight plays on which Suh was double-teamed. Suh finished with three tackles. One was a sack in which he bull-rushed Miller to get to Tyrod Taylor. He also batted a pass at the line.'
