‘”I’m probably not a good person to talk about that,” Bills coach Doug Marrone said Monday when asked about the bunched-up conference standings. “We’re just looking at Kansas City. I think that to spend time looking at what’s going on around you right now is really wasted energy. We need to spend a lot of time on ourselves in making sure that we’re prepared and ready to go out there and start this quarter against a good Kansas City team.”‘

‘Orton is making $5.5 million this season, and he has a player option for next year at the same price which means a strong finish gives him plenty of leverage. He could exercise his opt-out and seek big money in free agency, or, he could renegotiate a one-year deal with the Bills for a lucrative raise.’

‘Couplin brings the Bills back to the 53-man roster limit and gives them some depth on their special teams unit.’

‘”Nah, I’m not worried about that,” Spiller said Monday about his contract. “I think I’ve laid a great foundation down. I think that will take care of itself and so I’m not even worried about that part.”‘

‘After practice, coach Doug Marrone said Williams is expected back on Wednesday but Richardson could be away for a little longer.’

‘Wide receiver Mike Williams and guard Cyril Richardson were both missing from practice on Monday afternoon because of personal matters, while defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was absent because he had an issue with his flight.’

‘Jerry Hughes will finish with more sacks than Mario Williams.’

‘In Buffalo, Couplin fills a roster spot left open after the Bills placed rookie safety Kenny Ladler on the season-ending injured reserve list last week. The Bills (5-3) are coming out of their bye week off and prepare to host Kansas City (5-3) on Sunday.’

‘”I don’t want to put a percentage on it,” Spiller said. “I’m just taking it one day at a time. If the doctors clear me and everything’s well, obviously, I want to play.”‘

‘The Bills announced on Monday evening that they successfully claimed Jerome Couplin off of waivers. Couplin was released by the Detroit Lions on Saturday, after spending the first eight games of the season on their active roster.’

‘”There’s always a chance. We’ll see what the doctors say,” the running back said of suiting up for practice on Wednesday. “I’ll meet again with them [Tuesday], they wanted to see how things went today… and things went well today. I was able to move around on it a little bit. I’ll meet with them again in the morning and I think we’ll decide then.”‘

‘There are a number of interesting story lines that have emerged through the first half of the Buffalo Bills 2014 season but there’s no question which story is at the top of the list. The change at quarterback.’

‘Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, wide receiver Mike Williams and rookie offensive linemen Cyril Richardson each were non-participants at Monday’s practice, and none of the trio missed due to injury. Dareus missed the session due to an issue with his flight back to Buffalo, while Williams and Richardson were away from practice due to what a team spokesperson called “personal reasons.”‘

‘Couplin entered the league as an undrafted free agent earlier this year with the Detroit Lions. The 6-2, 215-pound William & Mary product appeared in eight games and accumulated two tackles during his time with the Lions this season. Couplin, 23 and a native of Washington, DC, has played primarily on special teams.’
