‘”There’s a lot of people that were upset. We weren’t hurt by it because we were able to come back and score, and I don’t really expect a guy like Sammy to ever do that again. I said, ‘There were people on that sideline’ – meaning his teammates – ‘that were upset. We’re playing our butts off, and we don’t have time for stuff like that.’ Those are the things we have to work on – winning and growing up.”‘

‘Nigel Bradham has been one of the early stars for the Bills’ defense this season, but Sunday was his worst game of the season by far. Not only did he miss a few tackles that resulted in big gains, but he also committed three careless penalties for a total of 35 yards in the first half. Chalk it up as a rough game for Bradham, and the Bills hope that doesn’t become a trend.’

‘Buffalo struggled to get points off turnovers in the first half and only led 24-17 at halftime. But the Bills’ defense dominated the second half to put the game away. The offensive playcalling wasn’t very aggressive or good, relying too heavily on the run. The Jets have had close losses to the Packers, Lions and Patriots, so beating them by 20 is impressive. Buffalo is 5-3 going into the bye week. ‘

‘Instead, the Jets seem to have won the battle of incompetence that has taken place for much of the last decade. Bills fans, ever on the lookout for something to flaunt, will surely take solace in that.’

‘But the Bills offense missed chances to take advantage of the Jets’ turnovers. While they turned some of the takeaways into points, others didn’t lead to scores. Those are opportunities the Bills need to take advantage of, especially against better opponents.’

‘The Bills’ offence sure wasn’t the reason they blew out the Jets 43-23 at MetLife Stadium; they gained all but 280 yards. Rather, it was because of Buffalo’s suffocating defence and the inexplicably bad quarterbacking of the Jets — first by Geno Smith (who wears No. 7), who might have made his last start in New York, then by veteran backup Michael Vick (who wears No. 1).’

‘”He was just eyeing down receivers,” said Bills linebacker Preston Brown, who got Smith’s second interception. “We saw it on film that he was just staring guys down. When we know if you do that we’re going to jump on guys’ routes, and we got some picks in the back-end with just reading his eyes.”‘

‘Charles said Marrone “just put that in our minds” about the point spread. “But, we already knew,” he said. “A lot of guys in this locker room have been underdogs, so we feed off that stuff. We’re going to make all the naysayers eat their words at the end of the year, because I don’t think we’ve gotten any respect that we’ve deserved. We’re going to stay grounded and keep proving these people wrong.”’

‘Orton finished 10 of 17 for 238 yards, and Watkins had three catches for 157 yards – but was embarrassed when he was caught from behind while celebrating early on what appeared would be a long TD.’

‘Ryan didn’t immediately announce whether Smith or Vick would start next week at Kansas City. That’s a change from the past, when Ryan has often said following games that Smith would be under center. “I have no idea,” Ryan said. “We’ll look at that later.”‘

‘Smith had played better last week in a 27-25 loss to the Patriots with 226 yards passing and no turnovers. But he struggled to find his accuracy against the Bills, and Vick started warming up after the third interception.’
