‘”It’s awful hard to come in and, ‘Oh, by the way, here’s the offense; learn it in a week,’ ” Ryan said during a phone call with reporters covering the Bills. “I don’t know if that’s realistic. But we’ll have some plays for him, let him get back there and return a kick and things like that.’

‘”They’re both going to play, they’re both going to get some carries, and we’re going to go with that hot hand just like we do every week,” Hackett said.’

‘”It’s a roller coaster the whole season,” Hackett said. “He’s great. It’s just about being clear with everybody what we’re asking, where we want them to be. As long as we have a clear picture of that, everybody should be good. I think that as a coach, the minute that you hide what you’re feeling or hide how you feel, than nothing’s going to change. I think that just Mike has to keep working, keep understanding the system better, get a relationship with the new quarterback, which is different than the one he was with originally. All those other guys have to keep doing the same thing they’re doing. They have to keep on working, keep on progressing, so that everyone’s progressing.’

‘All week, Bills fans, fantasy owners and anyone else watching Buffalo closely has been wondering how coach Doug Marrone will divide carries between running backs Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown. Dixon has been running with the starters and is in line to start, but Brown is the bigger threat to take a carry the distance. Oh, and the Jets are allowing just 3.6 yards per carry this season, so the Bills’ running game has its work cut out for it.’

‘Cornerback Ron Brooks was added to the list of players given the probable tag. He suffered a groin injury in practice and was limited, but it doesn’t seem to be serious.’

‘”He’s an unbelievable player, man,” Pryor said. “He has all the right tools to be one of the best to play the game. Definitely a playmaker. I know he got off to a slow start, but he had a good game last game. Now he’s starting to get rolling, so we’re going to have to do everything possible to — I wouldn’t say stop him — but contain him.”‘

‘”Chris was a guy – and I’ve never mentioned this to Chris,” Buffalo coach Doug Marrone said, “that you looked at and were looking for reasons why maybe he shouldn’t be on the team, but he was a guy that went out there [and made plays] every day. … I always tell the players that you’ve got to put yourself in a position where the coaches have to play you because that’s how well you’re playing. I think Chris has done that.”‘

‘Starting safety Aaron Williams and reserve receiver Marcus Easley are listed questionable. Williams aggravated a neck injury in a 17-16 win over Minnesota last weekend. Easley resumed practicing this week after missing four games with a left knee injury.’

‘”It goes by performance and we were looking for more production,” Marrone said. “EJ has taken a step back and he’s doing very well supporting Kyle anytime he can or anything he can do to help. Kyle was in that role before, and he did anything he could to help. That’s pretty much it.”‘

‘Goodwin sat out practice all week for the injury-plagued Bills, who were already missing running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.’

‘It could be yet another game missed for second-year wide receiver Marquise Goodwin as well. Goodwin had to leave practice last Thursday with a hamstring injury and has not been an on-field participant since. He was inactive against the Vikings and is listed as ‘doubtful’ for the game with the Jets.’

‘I have never, ever seen a Rex Ryan-coached defense play so much zone coverage. Cover-2 with corner backs underneath in the flats; Cover-3; even some Cover-4 on non 3rd and long-yardage situations. I’ve also never seen his CBs play so far off opposing WRs so consistently. It’s truly weird. But it’s an indictment on how Rex feels about his CBs, and maybe his secondary overall.
