‘Manuel, Buffalo’s first-round draft pick out of Florida State, was sacked seven times and doubled his interception total for the season.’

‘”I find it very difficult after that game to stand up here and defend a lot of things,” said Marrone after a lengthy postgame team meeting.’

‘The Bills lead the NFL with 44 sacks, but they only had one Sunday. The Bucs, meanwhile, pressured Manuel all day long led by linebacker Lavonte David, who had two interceptions and a sack. Johnthan Banks and Mason Foster also had interceptions for the Bucs, who lead the league with 21 picks.’

‘”I think guys here have every right to be frustrated after a game like that,” Jackson said. “Bottom line, we didn’t play well. You go back and look at film, and I can’t think of anything we did right.”‘

‘Starting the second half the Bills get the ball and manage their second score of the game, a 46-yard field goal from Dan Carpenter. It looked as though the momentum was beginning to shift as Buffalo forced a three and out which gave them good field position, but two more Manuel interceptions in the third squashed any comeback hopes, and the score would remain 27-6 all throughout the fourth quarter.’

‘After watching that debacle, I was left feeling like I have in so many Decembers these last 14 years, wondering if the current Bills coach and quarterback will just end up like their predecessors.’

‘It was bad enough this team choked away a 14 point lead to one of the worst teams in the NFL last week, but to not even show up in Tampa this week is inexcusable.’

‘They came out with a lethargic energy and failed themselves from the first play to the last. Sometimes there is some good with the bad, but this was an overwhelming and colossal failing effort on the Bills part. To their credit, the Bills owned it from the head coach on down.’

‘His meeting with the team went much longer then normal. There was obviously a ton to address. “It’s difficult after that game to get up here and defend anything”, said Marrone “I feel like we let down the ownership and let down the fans”, Marrone continued. “We played poorly”.’

‘All in all, it was a miserable day way too reminiscent of recent Decembers, when out-of-contention Bills teams occasionally gave the appearance that they were thinking about their tee times with games still remaining on the schedule.’

‘The only question moving forward is whether the first Jets game, Steelers game and this one are going to do an offseason-long battle with Manuel’s strongest efforts-so far, the Panthers and second Jets game-or whether he’ll bury any positives with two or more like this.’
