‘Now, the Bills need to figure out how to close out games, especially on the road. There is something to be said for fighting and hanging tough but the Bills still need to start winning games.’

‘”The Saints kept coming and that’s what led to some early turnover,” he admitted. “There’s nothing you can do about (fumbles) when you’re about to throw the football and a guy is standing there and hits you. The first (fumble) was on me, but the next ones, when you get a little pressure and you get ready to throw … the defense just makes a great play.”‘

‘”No, not really. I haven’t really given it too much thought,” he said. “I mean, I’m focused on winning games here. If something happens, it happens, but right now my focus is with my teammates here and just trying to win games.”‘

‘”Of course. Yes, he’s getting closer to the practice setting if we’re going to ramp him up,” he said. “I gotta watch him. I haven’t seen him out there yet. We’re getting ready to ramp him up, so we’re going to throw him out there and see how he does.”‘

‘However, they are also a team brimming with character, a team that doesn’t wilt at the first sign of adversity, and that came to the forefront when the defense went out there and stuffed the Saints on three plays, and then were rewarded when Garrett Hartley missed a 47-yard field goal.’

‘”That’s the nature of the beast,” Lewis said, referring to the several shots he absorbed that enabled him to become quite familiar with the floor of the Superdome. “You’re going to get nicked up in this game. It’s football. It’s a physical sport. It’s going to take more than a little bruise and a bump to keep you out of the game.”‘

‘Marrone confirmed that C.J. Spiller has a high ankle sprain, which is more difficult to recover from than a standard ankle sprain. “With C.J. we’re going to test it out Monday or Tuesday,” said Marrone. That means that the Bills will put him through the paces, but his chances of playing against Kansas City seem slim.’

‘”Guys are still confident,” said running back Fred Jackson. “We’ve got a good opponent coming in this weekend that gives us an opportunity to go out and win against a team that’s 8-0, give them the first loss of the season and try and build on that.”‘

‘”I’m gonna wait,” Marrone said when talking about both Spiller and linebacker Manny Lawson.’

‘”And I can’t answer the question, ‘Is he gonna be practicing or not?'” he said. “I don’t want to get into that and have it explode, but he’s going to be working extremely hard to a level of a great stage for where we should be.”‘

‘”He’s going to ramp it up this week,” said Marrone. “He’s closer to getting to the practice setting. I’ve got to watch him. I haven’t seen him out there yet. We’re getting ready to ramp him up, so we’re going to throw him out there and see how he does.”‘

‘The results of Spiller’s workout with the athletic training staff will map out the level of activity Spiller will have for the bulk of the practice week. From there a determination will be made on his status for Sunday’s game against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.’
