‘We will be looking to bring in another quarterback. We’re in the process of that right now, going through the names, going through the tape. Doug (Whaley) is up there and I’ll probably going to go up there and start getting involved in that process.’

‘Two of the available QBs the Bills have already waived once. Last year’s backup, Tyler Thigpen, isn’t on a roster and Matt Leinart, who was awful after being signed in preseason while Manuel nursed a tweaked knee, is also unemployed.’

‘”You know, Jeff’s working extremely hard, doing everything he possibly can do, and he’s getting better and better each week,” Marrone said. “We like him, we really do. But we just want to make sure that we’re doing our due process. Is there someone else out there that’s available to help us? Is there someone out there who’s better?’

‘Give him credit for realizing his mistake with Tuel and moving to correct it. Marrone has been good about revisiting his blunders. He admitted the challenge in Cleveland was a mistake.’

‘Other quarterbacks on the free agent market include Vince Young, Tyler Thigpen and Matt Leinhart, all of whom have worn a Bills uniform in the past year, as well as Trent Edwards, David Carr, Caleb Hanie, Dennis Dixon, Mike Kafka, JaMarcus Russell, Jimmy Clausen and Graham Harrell.’

‘Ultimately, coach Doug Marrone said what hurt Powell was his inability to get hang time, and to kick to designated areas. “We’ve been trying to get that for the last couple weeks,” Marrone said. “It’s not very difficult, you look to see how many times you’re covering, you’re covering more than anyone else, it’s only a matter of time in this league before you get exposed.”‘

‘here’s no way to quantify what would’ve been a successful 2013 season for the Bills, but losing their first-round rookie quarterback for 4-8 weeks, as has been reported, certainly wasn’t part of the plan. This season was supposed to be about watching the development of EJ Manuel, and in one avoidable play, it was gone.’

‘Regarding the Bills, if you watched the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game, you saw Manuel’s backup — undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel — epically fail. He’s not the answer.’

‘Specifically, Leonhard was fined for striking a defenseless receiver in the head and neck area.’

”’What we need right now is for it to calm down, see where we’re at,” Marrone said, ”see where he’s at in probably a week to see how it’s progressing, where he is, then get it down in to a little bit more of a window.”’

‘Powell struggled in angling punts away from Cleveland’s Travis Benjamin, who returned seven punts for a franchise-record 179 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown return.’

‘Marrone expects Manuel to return in a few weeks. In the meantime, the Bills will look “outside the organization” for another QB.’

‘Powell was most likely let go due to his inconsistent play over the last two games. Against Baltimore and Cleveland he punted 16 times, but only had a net average of 30 yards.’
