Then you start to see the comfort level coming in, its eight for eight in the two minute drive and you’re going ‘oof’, here we go. I see a player that’s progressed and developed quite quickly.”‘

‘”Schematically it’s tough for our corners,” the defensive coordinator said Tuesday. “Most of the time they’re locked up one-on-one outside. We don’t play a lot of Cover-2. It’s rare that they have that safety protection over the top, so that’s a challenge for our guys.”‘

‘I think when you look at EJ (Manuel), he was very excited. I mean, heck, as a rookie you come in your first game and you’re on the minus two yard line. That’s one of those things where I’m sitting up there going, are you serious? First drive of your career both of us and there he is on the two-yard line. And I thought his demeanor was great out there. He was a little bit fired up I think. You could kind of feel it. But once he settled down and got to play how EJ wants to play, I think you’ve kind of seen him come into his own. And it was really pleasing to see that kind of the stuff earlier didn’t bother him. He just wanted more reps and keep going out there. And I appreciate that from EJ.’

‘Powell was the more physically gifted punter and just had to demonstrate a level of consistency in his kicking to hold onto the job. He also showed well on some holds for the field goal kickers handling a couple of snaps that weren’t on target.’

‘Overall, it was a very solid outing from Manuel and the first step – certainly not the last – in securing the starting quarterback job for the Bills.’

I think you’d be stupid not to give them a shot out there because I think we’re going to win those battles. It’s the trust I have in the receivers. ‘Receiver Marquise Goodwin again made the play of the day, catching a 55-yard touchdown bomb from Jeff Tuel. Goodwin had a 107-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Colts on Sunday.’
