‘”I feel very good that we have both C.J. and Fred back there, who have done a good job and have been very productive players,” said Bills first-year head coach Doug Marrone. “We expect them to be productive in this upcoming year.”‘

‘”He’s done a really good job,” said Bills offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. “He’s one of those guys from a quarterback standpoint, you know right where he’s going to be. He runs very good routes. He made some great plays today. He opens your eyes. You want him in there. The quarterbacks love when he’s out there.”‘

‘”Part of it was with calling the defense, I always felt it was a problem in New York when I called them and the team was up-tempo, that it had to go through somebody else,” Pettine said. “You had that couple seconds where it had to get called twice. Now I had the ability to make the call and also give a couple of reminders. Tell the nose guard to do this. Or make sure the 3-technique does this. To me it’s something I wanted to do and I knew when I made the move here I was going to come down on the field.”‘

‘Kevin Kolb moved well on his injured knee and threw the ball well. His pass to Goodwin traveled 57 yards in the air. EJ Manuel took 22 snaps, Kolb 18 and Jeff Tuel 12 in 11-on-11 work.’

‘”When you don’t win at Texas you get a lot of criticism,” Williams said recently. “We were expected to go unbeaten every year. My junior year we had an awful season and the critics were out, so I’ve been through down times.”‘

‘”All my family are Bills fans, everyone back home in Florida are Bills fans,” said Provo, a native of West Palm Beach. “When they announced that (the Bills) had signed me, my phone was blowing up all day long, from people back home that are Bills fans, family in Rochester. Everybody, just saying congratulations and good luck.”‘

‘”I think as coaches we need to be careful of what we say. I said that to Nathaniel and I said that to the team. I think we all knew what he meant but, again, in this day and age, not everybody that’s involved in the game in football, truly understands that. We want to be true professionals in how we represent our sport.”‘

”’I was happy today,” Marrone said. ”He looked really good to the point where we’re going to get him ready to play.”’

‘He was cut two days after the Bills’ preseason-opening 44-20 win at Indianapolis. Stahovich averaged 41.3 yards on three punts, landing two of them inside the 20.’

‘”We don’t have the respect of anybody right now, but that’s fine,” Spiller said Monday night, while speaking on TSN Drive. “You’ve got to go out there and earn it and that’s the only way we want it.”‘

‘Stahovich signed with the Indianapolis Colts out of San Diego State but was released before the final roster cuts were made in September. In his only appearance with the Bills this preseason, he averaged 41.3 yards on three punts in Sunday’s victory over the Colts’

‘”What I’ve liked about the kid is, we had a scrimmage and he threw an early interception but he was able to come back” Marrone said. “He goes into his first ever game and we were happy with his decision making process early on in that game, the managing of the game. Then you start to see the comfort level coming in, its eight for eight in the two minute drive and you’re going ‘oof’, here we go. I see a player that’s progressed and developed quite quickly.”‘

‘”Schematically it’s tough for our corners,” the defensive coordinator said Tuesday. “Most of the time they’re locked up one-on-one outside. We don’t play a lot of Cover-2. It’s rare that they have that safety protection over the top, so that’s a challenge for our guys.”‘

‘It was also the second straight day the oldest quarterback on the roster was back to practicing in full with the team. He, along with many others on the field at St. John Fisher College left lasting impressions based on their performances Tuesday.’

‘”We’ve had about six guys over there… and that’s all me,” said defensive backs coach Donnie Henderson. “I’m just trying to give our guys different looks to see how they work with different rotations so to speak. That’s what I’m doing right now. Experimenting a little bit.”‘
