‘”This is the youngest group I’ve been around,” said Hilliard. “It’s harder, and it’s also a blessing. You have a lot of guys that just haven’t been in many situations. Those situations have to be created on the practice field. They have to be shown in the meeting room. There’s really not enough time to go through every situation that you’re going to face, so you do the best you can.”‘

‘”Kevin has been gone for a couple days and coming off an injury, we’re just working him back in,” Marrone said. “We’re going to dress him for the game but EJ will start the game.”‘

‘The Bills had a finesse-oriented practice as they geared up for Sunday’s exhibition opener against the Colts in Indianapolis. A full house of more than 5,000 watched at St. John Fisher College.’

‘Two rookies – including a first-round draft pick – are vying for a better spot on the quarterback depth chart. The receiving corps is loaded with newcomers. A sixth-round draft pick is trying to win the kicking job.’

‘The two new coordinators have distinct personalities, each reflecting how they want their respective units to perform. ”We want to portray to our guys that type of demeanor,” Pettine said. ”You want to be menacing when you’re on defense.”’

‘At Friday’s practice, Kolb went to the locker room a little over an hour into the workout to receive treatment on his knee. He hurt the knee last Saturday when he tripped on a mat between Buffalo’s practice fields.’

‘”I think you have to do things that you want to do during the year so you know how it works,” Marrone said when talking about his first preseason affair. “And then I think I’m still in the evaluation process trying to figure out who this squad is going to be. Who this 53 is going to be. So I think it’s unfair as a coach to sit here and say ‘Hey I’m going to do this and show this because I don’t want anyone to know during the season,� when you don’t really have your roster set.”‘

‘The toast of this year’s training camp is EJ Manuel and how he progresses throughout the days on the field. Sometimes though, it’s just a very bland and average performance for the man slinging the football around the field with the first team.’

‘”I think we all know that Kevin (Kolb) has been gone for a couple of days and coming off an injury and we’re just working him back in and we’re going to dress him for the game, but EJ will start the game,” said head coach Doug Marrone Friday following the team’s night practice. “He’ll get in there and play and we’ll probably get Jeff (Tuel) in there too.”‘

‘”The travel I think makes you a little sore, not having the treatment being away for a couple of days because of a personal issue,” said Marrone. “I think that it’s a little tight. I think if we wanted to push it he could go out there and play, if we wanted to make that decision, but that wouldn’t be in the best interest of player safety.”‘

‘What I’d like to see out of EJ and the rest of the players, I’d like to see them go out there and be very competitive. Go out there and win a game.’

‘Yup, very excited. We’ve worked out very hard these past two weeks. I know we’re going to be very excited to play a different team. Not playing against our own defense and our defense playing against us, so I’m looking forward to it.’
