Only players with a major injury (of six weeks or more) who are placed on IR after 4 p.m. Tuesday are eligible to be reactivated. Such a player is eligible to come back to the active roster eight weeks after going on IR.’

‘The groin injury Smith suffered in the 38-32 loss to Detroit on Thursday has apparently given a reprieve to quarterback Tyler Thigpen. All along Gailey has said Smith is the No. 3 quarterback, so it was assumed that either Thigpen or newly acquired Tarvaris Jackson would be let go, but both are still with the club. That may change once Smith is healthy.’
