‘”We obviously want everyone healthy and out there,” said quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. “Part of the NFL, and every year it happens at different times during the year, but you have to be able to adjust to injuries. You have to have the next guy step up. The last few years it seems like we have had to do that a lot in terms of guys going down and other guys having to come in and pick up where they left off. The next guy is up and we will see how they do.”‘

‘Well, I’m not ready to turn the reins over to Spiller yet, but it’s a non-issue because thanks to Jackson getting hurt again, he’s the man. If he keeps playing the way he did against the Jets, I’m pretty sure he’ll win me over. If Fitzpatrick plays the way he did, he’s going to lose me for good.’

‘According to reports it’s the severe swelling in the area that has got in the way of doctors getting a clearer picture of what they are dealing with. Jackson will use the next week or so to rest and let the swelling go down before having another MRI but eventually he will have to have surgery. The team hopes to have a more definite prognosis after that second MRI.’

‘”Well, I’ll say this,” Ryan said at his Monday news conference, a stern look replacing his usual smile. “Mario Williams is a great football player. There’s no question. He’s a tremendous player. But I disagree with him on this.”‘

‘In opening the season with six receivers, including Brad Smith, who doubles as the team’s wildcat quarterback, the Bills were already thin and limping at the position to begin with.’

‘Both players were injured in Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets and Bills coach Chan Gailey updated their status on Monday.’

‘”We couldn’t get off the field on third downs, and we just got beat,” said safety Jairus Byrd. “They didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, we knew what they were going to do, and we just got beat.”‘

‘Chan Gailey took some of the blame for Fitzpatrick’s first two interceptions, saying he called bad plays. Most disappointing, though, is that the Bills did not look sharp on offense as there were a number of mental errors. They had all offseason to get ready for an AFC East opponent they already knew well, yet still lost by 20 points. Defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt has plenty of work in front of him as he tries to figure out why his very well-paid defensive line was mostly invisible.’

‘”It was a bad knee injury,” said Gailey. It’s a setback and we’ve got to get some other people up and going, that’s just part of it.”‘

‘The Bills biggest free agent acquisition was also the player that had the worst grade of any defensive lineman on the team.’

‘”For me I’m a very level guy, even in life, stuff doesn’t tend to get to me. I mean it eats in terms of throwing three interceptions and us losing the game and me really hurting our team, that stuff hurts me. I’m definitely losing sleep, waking up early at 5am and staring at the ceiling and just thinking, ‘What the heck just happened,’ but for me, you move on, shake it off. It’s the same with a great game, you gain some momentum from that stuff, but each week there’s a new challenge out there and there’s a new team. That’s part of the great thing about the NFL is you’re able to put it behind you and go to the next one.”‘

‘Fred’s going to be a few weeks. It’s not going to be as little as three, but I don’t think it’s going to be eight. I think it’s somewhere in between, hopefully sooner than later and the prognosis is decent.”‘

‘The Bills fancy new pass rush generated no heat. The embattled Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez, had a fantastic day while the Bills got horrendous play at quarterback from Ryan Fitzpatrick. That’s really pretty much it.’

‘”It’s definitely hard. As a competitor who wants to be out there, it’s going to be hard for me.”, said Nelson. The wide receiver was on location in Williamsville following his radio show on Monday night. “I’ve never had to deal with something like this. There is nothing better then being out there with teammates, and going through the battle. It’s going to be difficult.”‘

‘Fred (Jackson) is going to be a few weeks. It is not going to be three but I do not think it is going to be eight. It is probably somewhere in there in between. Hopefully sooner than later and the prognosis is decent.’
