‘"I thought it was really poor," said Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. "Luckily it is preseason. It is the beginning of preseason. We have got a lot to work on."’

‘”This guy is a kickoff guy he kicked through the uprights kicking off and if you can make, or kick the ball in the end zone and make them start on the 20 it gives you a much better chance defensively,” said Bills General Manager Buddy Nix.’

‘”We wanted to get in the no-huddle and spread the ball around a little bit,” Fitzpatrick said. “We did not do a very good job of executing. It is the first preseason game for us, and so we knew there was going to be some sloppy stuff. There was no game plan. We just wanted to go out there and try to get it figured out on the field, and we were not real successful.”‘

‘What was interesting about the first quarter of work that Fitzpatrick and the starters put in was that they never attempted a running play in their four possessions.’

‘It sure says something when a guy completes 5 of 12 passes in the second half of a preseason game and improves his standing in a quarterback competition. Young wound up being the game’s leading rusher and flashed his superior athletic ability on a scramble to pick up a third-and-20. There are but a handful of players in the NFL who can make a play like that, and one of them, lining up for the visiting team here last night, is thought to be a future star in the league.’

‘”I think it was pretty obvious they protected him,” Buffalo defensive tackle Kyle Williams said. “They did not want him to get hit. That being said, he made a couple plays throwing the ball. It is kind of hard to judge him because I do not think we saw everything they are going to do with him this year.”‘

‘If two brutal calls in the first quarter of the Bills-Redskins pre-season game Thursday night are any indication, replacement NFL officials are going to be a disaster.’

‘”Oh yea, Jack and I were roommates when I first went there,” said McDole, one of the original 70 Greatest Redskins. “We lived by each other. Great individual, fantastic ballplayer. That was a great time. In `64 and `65, we had championship teams.”‘
