‘The exchange of offers is the first indication that contract talks have resumed since the two sides broke off discussions in November. That’s when Johnson rejected the Bills’ latest offer and said it would be up to the team to make the next move.’

‘”He will be and needs to be for us to get to where we need to be, a dominant player inside. He’s got to get to the point and I think he showed a lot of promise last year that you better double team him,” he said. “He can’t be blocked one on one, that’s got to be his mindset.”‘

‘One of the primary reasons for the switch is too take advantage of defensive tackles Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus. “I think that from the few guys that we do have, our two inside guys Dareus and Kyle, I think it will give those guys a chance to make some plays in there.”‘

‘”We didn’t have good enough players at every position,” Nix said. “So to fix it I think our secondary would look better if we had some pressure on the passer. If you can’t disrupt passers in the NFL and make them get out of rhythm and make them move, any of them will wear you out. We had some rookies that looked like Dan Marino because we let them stand there. You have to disrupt the passer.”‘

‘”I’m not sure there is any team that can avoid it (injuries) completely,” Gailey said. “It’s just whether you get the injuries or not and can you stay healthy during the course of the season with your best players? So that’s the key for any team I believe is to try to stay as healthy as possible to make it through the season which you can some years and you can’t some years.”‘

‘”Whenever you go from a three-down look to a four-down look the obvious change is defensive linemen and everybody knows that,” he said. “We have a lot needs. (We need) three linebackers who can run, not the big 3-4 linebacker. We’re looking for guys who can run and make plays.”‘

‘A lot of these players, everybody wants to know where guys are going to fit and who’s going to do what. We have a select group of players as every team does that are free agents. We’re still in the evaluation process. That’s something that obviously Buddy Nix has been in conversations with different player’s agents and where it’s at and how it unfolds. We have a draft and free agency coming up so there’s a lot of things that can and will happen, I should say, between now and when we actually lineup for the first mini-camp with our additions from college and from the free agent market. I’ve been a little bit vague as far as player personnel issues. It’s not that I’m avoiding anything. There is some uncertainty and we’re still in the evaluating process that’s taking place right now.’
