‘When asked if the Jets showed his Bills how to step up in a big game, Gailey maintained, “I don’t know if I’m ready to go there. I think we have the make up to be that, we were not that today. The one thing about it is you’ve got half a football season left. It starts this week and you get a chance to go do something about it. If you don’t like it, do something about it.”‘

‘The Bills are better than they’ve been, but certainly no juggernaut. With injuries taking their tool, they were bound to play a bad game sooner or later. It’s just surprising to see the home crowd sit back and watch it happen. This isn’t Toronto where the fans need a good reason to cheer. The Bills came out slugglish on Sunday. The 12th Man followed suit. Maybe daylight savings threw everyone off their game. To their credit, the Bills players are too proud to admit they needed a little help from their friends to beat a team like the Jets.’

‘State Police wrote 79 traffic tickets after Sunday’s Buffalo Bills game, and also arrested a couple of drivers on more serious charges, including drunken driving.’

‘Gailey needed to give his entire team a jolt, a spark, a nudge from somewhere. Maybe it would have been a trick play or throwing deep on the 4th and inches. Instead he went by a plan that was flawed from the start.’

‘In their last seven games against the Jets, the Bills have an astounding 22 turnovers averaging better than three per game. In contrast New York over that same stretch with Buffalo has just 12 total giveaways.’

‘”We got outplayed on offense,” Bills center Eric Wood said. “We really never got anything going. We didn’t really have an answer.”‘

‘”We definitely have some things we need to clean up,” said Bills linebacker Nick Barnett, who recorded a game-high nine tackles. “We made some plays then we gave a lot up. We let them hold onto the ball a little bit too long. There’s some good things we can take away from the game and some bad things we need to correct.”‘

‘”Kickers have come in since and have continued to take it notches up, which is great to see,” Norwood said. “I saw that firsthand when Stevie Christie came in. I certainly had acknowledged he was a great kicker at that time and I could see the reason they moved forward without me.”‘

‘For the second time in three games, the Bills were physically pounded by a New York City team. But they lost the intellectual war, too. Gailey has outfoxed several coaching icons this year. When he came up against Ryan, he blinked. The Jets made Mega Mind look more like Scatter Brain.’

‘Their game against the Jets was on national television Sunday, but you couldn’t blame the Jets for not quite buying into the idea that the Bills were a real threat in the division race. New York has beaten Buffalo four straight times by a combined score of 132-45.’

‘Lindell had further testing on the shoulder after the game and didn’t know if the injury was significant enough to keep him out of the lineup for the Bills’ game next Sunday in Dallas.’

‘The Jets stuffed Fred Jackson for no gain on a fourth-and-1 play early in the fourth quarter. It stopped a Bills drive at the Jets’ 16 and doused any ideas of a Bills comeback.’

‘Fitz played his worst game of the season on big national stage. Had 2.8 rating in first half. Gailey never found rhythm as play caller.’

‘”I don’t worry about statements, I worry about winning and not winning and we didn’t win today,” said Bills coach Chan Gailey. “They played great, we played poorly. It’s my responsibility to get our team ready to play each week and I didn’t get these guys ready to play well enough in this ballgame.”‘

‘Well, with a 5-3 record – the same as the Jets and Patriots – the Bills are in control of their destiny as much as the next guy with eight games to play. But after such a disappointing performance and a three-game road trip looming starting in Dallas, the complexion of the season certainly took a decidedly negative turn.’
