‘Their hopes that Brian Brohm would represent an upgrade at quarterback over Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick went unrealized.’

‘”Dude,” T.O. likes to say, “that’s not what I play for.”‘

‘”Fitzpatrick is still day to day in his pursuit to get back,” said interim head coach Perry Fewell Monday. “We just have to evaluate that. We expect him to practice on Wednesday. But we’ll just have to see him.”‘

‘Saying “we think he’ll be better,” interim head coach Perry Fewell was optimistic that Fitzpatrick can play on Sunday after missing one game, a 31-3 loss to Atlanta this past weekend. With Fitzpatrick and backup Trent Edwards both nursing ankle injuries, the Bills (5-10) started Brian Brohm, a second-year player, who made his NFL debut against the Falcons.’

‘”When you get sacks you always feel good about it. But like I’ve told you it’s sort of a silly stat. It doesn’t guarantee a win, it doesn’t do anything like that,” Schobel said. “It’s almost better to get a pressure that forces a quarterback to throw and get an interception.”‘

‘"I know fans are frustrated, coaches are frustrated, players are frustrated, but I just don’t think there was any laying down," defensive tackle Kyle Williams said.’

‘Dick Jauron could have made both those calls. Fewell is part of the old, and this team needs a lot of new.’

‘How will the start of the Brian Brohm era go? No one is going to compare him to Jim Kelly, but he wasn’t terrible, and that’s saying something given the state of Buffalo’s quarterbacking lately. If the line had just helped him a little, maybe he could have thrown the ball downfield. Then again, that was the same lament we had for Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick. It really is true, it all starts up front and the Bills are simply awful.’

‘ As NFL debuts go, it wasn’t terrible for Brian Brohm, but it also wasn’t close to being good enough to win. Brohm was 17 of 29 for 146 yards with two interceptions. He really didn’t stand a chance playing behind an overmatched line and it was somewhat of a miracle that he was sacked only twice for a loss of eight yards. He was decent in the short game – though so was Trent Edwards – and the two deep balls he threw were both off target and one was picked off. He did seem to have some poise and command, though, and that’s a start.’

‘Fans looking for significance from the first NFL start by Bills quarterback Brian Brohm probably were disappointed.’

‘Schobel posted his first three-sack performance since Dec. 10, 2006 at the New York Jets. It was his first multi- sack game of the season. He also forced two fumbles, tying another career best he last accomplished on Oct. 28, 2007 at the Jets.’

‘”Is that what the final score was?” Wilson replied, an incredulous look on his face. “I didn’t even know what the final was. I stopped looking at the scoreboard about halfway through the third quarter.”‘

‘”All the records that I’m starting to accumulate are just part of what I’ve been doing throughout my career,” Owens said. “I’m just blessed to play this game. I’ve been playing it at a productive level and things happen. I’m honored to be on the list, but as far as where I am, it doesn’t bother me. I don’t care about that. I’d rather have had a win today, more so than anything.”‘

‘Fewell punted on fourth-and-3 from Atlanta’s 37. He settled for field goal on fourth-and-4 with his team down, 24-0. Very Jauron-like. Grade: D.’
