‘On why Jeff Posey was never looked into playing defensive end: Well it was looked into. It definitely was looked into and it was discussed. We just thought it was not anything that was going to happen here. I know he started out that way and he does like to pass rush and as I said, he’ll be somewhere. I’m fairly certain he’ll play in the league this year.’

‘"On the field I had to tweak a few small things," said Whitner. "They threw a wrinkle in there at me today that we really haven’t seen, but other than that I felt like I did pretty well."’

‘The defense has adopted a new scheme this year with a new coaching staff that does not necessarily fit Posey’s quarterback chasing strengths. In the new system, brought in by Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell, linebackers are required to play more off the ball.’

‘The veteran has started for the Bills at strong side linebacker for the past three seasons, but apparently didn’t fit into the new system being incorporated by new defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.’

‘With Spikes — a two-time Pro Bowl selection — ready to return, Crowell remained in the starting mix alongside middle linebacker London Fletcher. The Bills are so high on Crowell that they plan for him to keep his spot at weak-side linebacker, switching Spikes to the strong side where he will play over the opposing team’s tight end.’

‘Jeff Posey started 47 games over the last three seasons with the Buffalo Bills. But the veteran linebacker didn’t even make the team this season.’

‘It was evident even in the spring camps that Posey who is a strong, hold-the-point-of-attack kind of linebacker was not an ideal fit. The coaching staff moved him to weak side late in the spring camps, and he was running with the second team at training camp. Takeo Spikes took his strong side linebacker position and Angelo Crowell moved into the starting lineup on the weak side.’
