‘With the free agency period set to begin on Friday, March 3, the first order of business for General Manager/Football Operations Marv Levy is to begin the process of exercising their option to make contract offers to their young players, who in effect remain tied to the team.’

‘While the moves saved the Bills $8.3 million in salary cap space, the team made it clear the cuts weren’t just about money. It was just as much about football evaluations.’

‘”Maybe they are waiting for that Hail Mary,” said Johnson, who stressed again that Moulds won’t take any sort of pay reduction. “We’d like to see Eric finish his career in Buffalo, and if it makes sense for him to take a pay cut, we’d do it. But based on the information (the Bills) have given me, there is no justification.”‘

‘Without knowing what rules to play under for this year, the Bills, like most other NFL teams, have put together Plan A and Plan B. The first assumes an extension will be reached and it will be business as usual. The other takes into account all of the quirky transition year rules and the daunting prospect of no salary cap at all next season. “You’re ready to go either way,” said Overdorf, a 1986 Drake University Law School graduate. “You have to realize that under transition rules, it’s going to be a lot tighter (with money). If not and there’s an extension, we’re going to have more flexibility. Push comes to shove, we still have to make the right decisions.”‘

‘Levy said the team still wants Moulds to return, but the moves were not specifically made in order to help fit his $10.85 million salary cap number in under the estimated $95 million cap figure. "It goes beyond just the Eric Moulds situation," Levy said. "We hope something can be worked out with him. We’d like to keep him and we’ll continue to make our efforts to do so."’

‘Adams and Milloy signed with Buffalo as a free agents in 2003. In three years with the Bills, Milloy had 271 tackles, eight sacks and three picks, while Adams recorded 93 tackles and 13 sacks.’

‘"It’s that time of the year when I think all teams are involved in making some – to a degree – painful decisions and have to move forward with it," new Bills general manager Marv Levy said.’

‘Although Levy revealed the cuts to the veteran trio, he did say of the Eric Moulds situation "there is no status change", which could mean there’s still a possibility the Bills might retain the 10-year veteran wide receiver.’
