Veteran LB unaccustomed to spectator’s role

‘So, too, does watching opposing offenses push the Bills around. His team is near the bottom of the AFC East and his defense is ranked 28th in the league, pushing Spikes, the emotional heartbeat of the Buffalo defense, to spend every waking minute preparing his mind and body for a comeback. It means eight hours in the back seat of a Range Rover for a seven-minute appointment in Birmingham, Ala., with acclaimed sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Ten hours each week in rehab. Ten more in a hyperbaric chamber. And an endless amount of time watching film, not only helping his Bills coaches prepare for that week’s opponent but also making a mental to-do list for September 2006.’

Time again for Bills to start fresh

‘But what’s worse is that without significant action, it won’t make them for the seventh or eighth straight years, either. Wilson knows football and he is a businessman. He appreciates the loyalty fans feel for his team. We think he will be unable and unwilling to retain President and General Manager Tom Donohoe and head coach Mike Mularkey while they continue to fail and further damage the team and Wilson’s franchise. The silver lining will appear with their dismissal. The facts are irrefutable and the judgment calls inexcusable.’

Moulds back with Bills, at least for now

‘The salary cap is the big reason Moulds’ 10-year Bills career is likely to end after this season. Moulds has a cap figure of almost $11 million for 2006. That’s simply too high. If the Bills release him in March, they can save $5.5 million against the cap. He still would count about $5.3 million on the Bills’ 2006 books.’

Levy return isn’t in works

‘Speaking from his Chicago home Tuesday, Levy said, “There was a long, long question-and-answer period, and I spoke on a lot of issues. I have been contacted many times over the years by teams to ask about coaches, to get my input on situations or to discuss football matters. It’s not unusual. After I spoke I sort of regretted bringing it up. I wish I hadn’t said it. I can say on the record that I have had no contact with the Bills.”‘

Holcomb may start due to Losman injury

‘”J.P., especially with his experience, every rep(etition) is a critical rep to him, as are practices,” Mularkey said. “So a lot of it will be based on how he feels. . . . We don’t seem to think it’s going to be anything real bad.”‘

Positive Moulds returns to Bills

‘”It’s crossed my mind but we have three games left and at end of the season we’ll see,” said Moulds, who sat out Sunday’s abysmal 35-7 Bills’ loss to the New England Patriots while serving a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. “You’d like to finish your career where you started but it’s rare these days with free agency and the salary cap. At end of the season, we’ll sit down and see what happens.”‘

Losman sits out practice with sore right shoulder

‘”J.P., especially with his experience, every rep is a critical rep to him, as practices are,” Mularkey said. “So a lot of it will be based on how he feels, what the MRI says. We don’t seem to think it’s going to be anything real bad. But we’re going to see how he feels tomorrow and make a decision.”‘

It’s a happy return for Moulds

‘”It was tough,” Moulds said Tuesday. “I equate it to what Michael Jordan said a long time ago when he watched the Knicks beat up on his Bulls and he couldn’t do anything about it because he was retired. I felt sort of like that watching a great team like the Patriots and you know you can help your team out but you are not out there.”‘

Shanahan made fine impression

‘”I was actually talking about that (Monday) to (Bills defensive coordinator) Jerry Gray,” Mularkey said Tuesday. “My freshman year at Florida we were 0-10-1, and Mike came in as a coordinator the next year and I think we went 8-3 . . . but I think at the time it was the biggest college turnaround from record to record.” “An excellent player,” Shanahan said of Mularkey. “Tough, hard-nosed, a guy you could always count on. I always thought Mike would be the guy to play in the pros for a long time. A hard worker, an over-achiever.”‘

Broncos downplaying poor play of Bills’ QB

‘”He’s a scary, athletic guy,” Denver defensive coordinator Larry Coyer said. “And it’s going to be a challenge.”‘

Losman Held Out Of Practice Wednesday

‘Head Coach Mike Mularkey said that J.P. Losman suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder during the the first quarter of New England game. On Monday Losman notice more pain in his shoulder, and the team gave him a MRI. A decision will be made over the next two day whether or not he will start.’

Moulds Returns

‘”Coach and I talked about it, we addressed it and it’s a dead issue,” Moulds explained. “We’ve had a good relationship up until the point where things happened last week, and I think we still have a good relationship. We just have to move on, it’s a dead issue for me and it’s a dead issue for him. The team comes first and the other issues have to take a second step behind."’

Moulds returns, but future remains uncertain in Buffalo

‘”It’s crossed my mind,” Moulds said. “But I’ve got three games left here and after the end of the season we’ll see. … You’d like to finish your career where it started, but it’s rare these days with free agency and the salary cap.”‘

Will attitude cost Bills coach, GM their jobs?

‘So, sometime in January, don’t be surprised if Ralph reveals the Bills will head “in a different direction” … and it’s without Donahoe and Mularkey.’
