‘Yesterday, in my piece on Bills’ owner Ralph Wilson, I failed to mention the biggest mistake that he’s ever made in his career. That, of course, was firing Polian. Wilson had a run in with Polian and decided to show the door to a man who has turned out to be the best personnel man in the league for the past 15 years. Well, the Bills’ loss is the Colts’ gain.’

‘It’s no guarantee that Williams will start at guard. It’s expected he will share some time this week with left guard Bennie Anderson, who has struggled in pass protection. The two split plays evenly in practice Wednesday, according to coach Mike Mularkey, but Anderson still was starting.’

‘It’s a quandary, all right. Williams was the most important draft pick of Donahoe’s five years as GM, the Bills’ highest draft choice since Bruce Smith, the highest-paid O-lineman in franchise history. Now, four years into his NFL career, Williams might not be one of the top five linemen on his own team.’

‘However, Kansas City has demonstrated a powerful running game even without Holmes. Backup runner Larry Johnson, the Chiefs’ No. 1 draft pick in 2003, is averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He has gained 506 rushing yards and has six touchdowns. Johnson had two touchdowns in Sunday’s 27-23 victory over Oakland, including a 1-yard run on the final play of the game.’
