Bills Q&A: Josh Stamer

‘The New York Giants … NFL Europe … Seattle Seahawks … You paid some serious dues during 2002 before winding up in Buffalo after being spotted during a free agent combine. Were you ever discouraged?

“It was discouraging, getting cut in Seattle’s training camp and sitting out that whole year, but I just kept working out. I never had a coach tell me that I wasn’t good enough to play, it was always a numbers game I was in. They told me to keep trying and hopefully you’ll find that right fit.”‘

Bills fighting to keep playoff hopes alive

‘”The last four games we’ve done a good job of moving the ball and against New England, we held the ball for almost 40 minutes,” he added. “When you can keep a team on the sideline like that, offensively you’re doing a pretty good job and we’ve got to keep that up (against) Kansas City (which) has a highly-potent offense.”‘

Vermeil’s still got guts

‘Vermeil’s decision also got the attention of the Bills’ offensive players who expressed hope their coach would make the same choice. “He had a lot of confidence in his offensive line that they could get the job done,” said veteran guard Chris Villarrial. “As an offensive lineman, when your coach has confidence in you like that … it feels good.”‘

Bye, bye Buffalo

‘”There was a time when I wanted to have a long career with the Bills. But what happened to me is common for young quarterbacks. If you look around, with personnel changes and coaching changes, it’s not unusual for a coach to say, ‘We’re going to bench you and go with somebody else.’ “‘
