The Bills have turned the reigns of the team over to J.P. Losman. He will have the luxury of a power running game, a great defense, and solid special teams units. Optimism runs high in Houston as the Texans finished last year with their best record ever, 7-9.

That doesn’t mean the Texans are going to sit back and make Losman’s first start a comfortable experience. “We’re going to do everything we can back there to confuse him,” free safety Marcus Coleman said. “We’re going to try to make it rough on him. We’re not going to try to make it where he can just drop back and just let it go. We’re going to try to make it as hard as possible.”

‘Cornerback Nate Clements did not practice Monday because of a shoulder injury and his status is uncertain for the Bills’ regular-season opener Sunday against Houston.’

‘”It is a huge motivation,” he said. “There are a lot people that tell me, ‘you’re too small to play, you are not going to be able to play there because of your size’. You just have to take that personally and have that chip on your shoulder everyday that you go out there to prove that you can play at this level.”‘

‘How exactly do you plan on feeling secure this season with only four backups at O-line, three of whom are listed as second with one third string? I’m just curious, especially with the multitude of receivers shown on the depth chart…’.

‘We were fortunate enough to sign Constantin back to the practice squad to give us our fourth defensive end and in case of a need he’s here working with us and working with the defense.’

‘The Buffalo Bills signed eight players recently released by the team to their practice squad. Among the players signed include undrafted rookie free agents: tight end Brad Cieslak, linebacker Liam Ezekial, fullback Jon Goldsberry, defensive backs Rob Lee and Evan Oglesby.’

‘And two, anybody who thinks Losman isn’t going to make mistakes, and plenty of them, has apparently watched, or at least paid attention to, very little football over the years.’

‘Nate Clements didn’t practice. Mike Mularkey says his shoulder in not serious and they’ll evaluate him Wednesday to see if he’ll workout. LB Angelo Crowell is in the same situation with a leg problem. Tim Euhus will miss the Texans game with a strained pectoral muscle.’

‘Coach Tony Truilizio of Riverside High School has been named the Buffalo Bills high school football “Coach of the Week” for the first weekend of the 2005 season (September 2-3).’

‘Reed’s role is still not entirely secure. His future will depend on how quickly rookie second-round draft pick Roscoe Parrish returns after having surgery to repair a right wrist injury he hurt in training camp. Parrish, who turned heads with his speed and catching ability before he was hurt, is expected to miss at least the first month of the season.’
