Buffalo at Indianapolis

‘Losman hit on 11-of-19 attempts, which included his five-yard score to Lee Evans in the second quarter. Sape blocked Hunter Smith’s punt in the first quarter and returned it three yards for a touchdown in the opening period to give the Bills the lead for good at 7-3.’

Losman Improves As Game Goes On In Opener

‘The Bills were 2-of-14 on thrid down conversions. They also had 19 penalties for 146 yards.’

Bills Win Preseason Opener

‘Special teams played a major role once again. Lauvale Sape blocked Hunter’s Smith punt and recovered the ball for a touchdown to give the Bills a 7-3 lead. Buffalo led 17-3 at halftime.’

Kelly honors son’s memory as grand marshal

‘Kelly made the decision to come after talking it over with his wife Jill. He said that Hunter would have wanted him to be at Watkins Glen, noting that he watched races and football games with his son. Before uttering the words, ‘gentleman, start your engines’, Kelly looked to the sky and asked for Hunter’s help.’

Kelly carrying on son’s legacy

‘“Three thousand babies die every year because they are born in the wrong state,” said Kelly, who ruled out a run for Congress. “This is my lifelong commitment: to make sure every state tests for the maximum (number of diseases).”’

Jim Kelly speaks out at Watkins Glen

‘”You don’t have to see your own son or daughter suffer the way a lot of these kids are suffering, not just with what my son has, Krabbes leukodystrophy, but other diseases with the universal newborn screening that is so key,” says Kelly.’

Bills ready to saddle up, start preseason

‘"It’ll be more than a quarter," Mularkey said. "As much experience as he can get will obviously be a positive. The Green Bay scrimmage obviously helped. Every snap that he’s had, whether it’s been in mop-up duty or in these preseason games, is a learning experience. He’ll get something out of each one of them, and I think he has. We’ll make sure he gets enough to get comfortable once he gets going into the season."’

Parrish undergoes successful surgery

‘However, it is possible Parrish may be sidelined for the rest of the preseason and possibly longer if his wrist is broken. A common absence for a broken wrist is six to eight weeks.’

Bills’ Greer out to win nickel back role

‘With the team’s important nickel back role up for grabs – that’s the player who is first off the bench when the defense goes to five defensive backs, which is often – Greer is committed to giving the kind of effort that provides peace of mind if not the desired end result. But the odds are pretty good Greer will nail down the No. 3 cornerback job.’

Cicci/Kelly team getting on track

‘Kelly first hooked up with Cicci in October 2002 in a move to make the team more marketable to sponsors. Cicci said Kelly is very supportive despite the recent loss of his 8-year-old son Hunter, who suffered from Krabbe disease, an inherited degenerative disorder of the central and peripheral nervous systems. “He goes to every race he can, but he’s had to deal with the situation with Hunter,” Cicci said. “There was a lot of care that had to be given to Hunter, and it was a big responsibility for his wife, so he had to stay back and help her a lot of the time. He’s a very good family man.”‘

‘Although a timetable has not been established for his return, the injury is not classified as season-ending.’
