Transcript: QB J.P. Losman

‘On feeling more prepared entering into this training camp:

"It’s huge. I was talking to Sam (Wyche) as we were walking out here, I said it’s a lot different walking out here this year, as opposed to last year, just the feeling is different. I feel like it’s my turn, my time to come out here and be successful, as opposed to taking a back seat like last year so it’s definitely a big deal. I feel like I’m the guy. I feel like it’s going to get done."’

A Closer Look: Lionel Gates

‘What is your favorite restaurant to Buffalo Wings?

"Actually, I haven’t had a chance to go out and have the real Buffalo Wings, all I have had is Pizza Hut. That’s not the real thing, but it’s the closest I have had to it."’

McGahee arrives ready to roll

‘”I think I’m excited for him just to see him come in here and not have to wonder if he’s healthy, should we pace him,” Mularkey said. “It’s full-speed ahead, and I think that’s good for all of us on offense.”‘

Evans strives to keep his promises on and off the field

‘That’s the beauty of the Bills’ receiving corps. Where, exactly, should the opposing defense place its emphasis? Moulds caught 88 passes last season, the third-highest total of his career. Parrish has a game breaker’s quickness. Willis McGahee is a danger coming out of the backfield. Toss in a seasoned Evans, and it’s a group threatening to take a lot of teams to school.’

Miami partisans get carried away

‘In Miami’s two losses to Buffalo last year it was largely a matter of the Bills’ defense recording seven takeaways in those games. When the Bills won in Buffalo, mobile Jay Fiedler, now a Jet, was sacked five times. Fiedler and Feeley were sacked 52 times last season. To help cut down that number, Saban hired one of the NFL’s better offensive line coaches, Hudson Houck.’

The billboard

‘The Bills will hold one practice today at 2:45 p.m.’

Gandy is feeling dandy with Buffalo Bills

‘”I understand the importance of the position and what it takes to succeed at this level,” he said, walking off the field after an autograph session. “I know it’s a big responsibility but it’s a challenge I’m taking in full stride. I have confidence in myself and that’s all I can ask for.”‘

Parrish takes runs with Bills’ first unit

‘Parrish is wearing No. 11, worn last by departed quarterback Drew Bledsoe. Why 11? “I wanted No. 1, but I couldn’t have it, and this was close,” Parrish said.’

McGahee the key to Bills’ success

‘He feels better mentally and emotionally, too. With Henry traded to Tennessee, the distractions have been removed. McGahee knows he is THE man, THE featured back.’

Pundits predict Bills to finish in middle of AFC East pack

‘The Bills are picked to finish second in the division by three publications, third by six and fourth by one.’

Bills fans carry high hopes team will end 5-year playoff drought

‘”My husband and I have two full houses decorated with Bills stuff and we can’t help but be excited for this season.”‘

Yep, we’re ready for football

‘They rolled out the red carpet Saturday for the Buffalo Bills. Literally.’

Training camp begins on an upbeat note

‘”It seems last year the way to get those games behind you is to play the next week, but there was no next week,” Vincent said. “We were so close, but so far away. But that was the ’04 season and that’s behind us, this is 2005 and we have another opportunity.”‘

Sold that QB’s a Bill of good?

”’The question is, is he ready?” said one AFC personnel man. ”I guess they believe that if Losman can make a play or two a game, he’s worth the risk. Maybe he can give them more production in the red zone because he can move around and make something happen. They didn’t ask Bledsoe to do much last year. Basically, it was a running offense with very little passing. I think they’ll be conservative at first but if the kid shows he’s comfortable out there, they’ll turn him loose. He doesn’t have a shortage of confidence and he can make every throw and make it on the run.”‘
