Ask Him Yourself: Mike Mularkey

‘Does you team read the paper and react to the negative media? I mean, you guys WON and there is an article in the paper of how it was "too ugly." What do you do to combat this attention or are you so used to playing you own game?

MM: I’m sure they probably read the paper more than we do as coaches because they have more time than we do. I warn them about being influenced by things that they hear or read by people that don’t understand the game as well as the people inside our building.’

Ask Him Yourself: Tom Donahoe

‘With Bannan in on the o-line, does that mean that you will be paying closer attention to it in future drafts and free agency?

TD: We have paid close attention to the offensive line every year and we will continue to do the same every year forward. The offensive line may be the hardest position to play in football and you’re always trying to find talented players who can succeed there. With regard to Justin Bannan, his play yesterday is a great credit to his versatility and his athletic ability. That he could play on the offensive line and that he would want to do this says a lot about him as a player. It’s something that we are taking a look at and we are very much in the infant stages of working with Justin on this. It will certainly add to his versatility and the team’s versatility.’

New Faces Find End Zone

‘"That was our main goal right there, move the ball and get it into the end zone on a rushing touchdown," McGahee said. "That’s what we worked on. The o-line knew what they had to do and I knew what I had to do. We got it done."’

Game Notes: Bills vs. Cardinals

‘Terrence McGee: Became only the third player in Bills history with two kickoff returns for touchdown in one season when he posted an 87-yard return touchdown vs. the Cardinals (Charley Warner, 1965 and Wallace Francis, 1973).

Bills win in blowout

‘”It was a great game,” said Ben Sorenson, the spokesman for the Order of Canadian Football Loving Nuns, who were well-covered for the weather. “The polyester is quite waterproof, oddly enough. It’s about time the Bills started winning, and to seek God on their side.”‘

Bills fear WR Reed might miss next weekend’s game against Jets

‘The injury left Buffalo with only three receivers, but Mularkey said fifth-stringer Drew Haddad could play against the Jets after missing Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury.’

Buffalo rolls to invisible victory

‘You have to wonder, though, what Henry might have done if the new coaching staff or their predecessors had ever shown the sort of commitment to him that McGahee received yesterday, or in Buffalo’s other victory this year, against Miami. Barring injury, it looks like we’ll never know.’

Tough times abound for sports fans while Bills bumble and Sabres sit

‘The Buffalo Bills — by any measure, be it wins and losses, aesthetic appeal or excitement generated — stink. Worse yet, they’re not even likable losers.’

Return ticket

‘"At that point in the game, they had just scored (to pull within 10-7)," said Bills quarterback Drew Bledsoe. "We were going to have to drive the ball into the wind, which was very, very difficult. To take that kickoff and return it for a touchdown at that point was huge, and maybe the pivotal point in the game."’

Bills view themselves as a team on the rise

‘"The same way people used to look at us when I was with Cincinnati, that’s the way I looked at it (Sunday)," Spikes said. "I didn’t care who it is. I didn’t care if it was Vince Lombardi coaching. Our attitude was, "Hey, we’ve got to find a way to come up with the win. Point blank, period. Let’s get it done.’ "’

This is one Bills victory that’s pretty – pretty ugly, that is

‘Now we face reality. The Bills have won two of their last three games, victories coming against teams that had a combined 2-9 record. The score Sunday merely outlined how insufficiently stacked the Cards really are in Arizona, a team supposedly on the rise but obviously gasping in the familiar depths. Halloween was the perfect day for this horror show.’

Bannan switches sides to get playing time

‘"I think he is calling himself "the Microwave’ now," cracked quarterback Drew Bledsoe. "When he comes in, the offense heats up."’

Cards’ duo struggles under the weather

‘The Bills succeeded in making Boldin and Fitzgerald almost irrelevant Sunday in their 38-14 triumph over the Cardinals. Boldin, who missed the first six games because of a knee injury suffered during training camp, finished with four receptions for 50 yards. Fitzgerald, the third player taken in April’s NFL draft, was totally taken out of the game and didn’t have a reception.’

Moorman’s punts blow away Cards

‘"It’s not like I didn’t know the forecast," Moorman said. "I knew it was going to be just like the Miami game. You go into it thinking you really can’t change it, so you just go out and stick to your technique and try and keep the ball as low as you can while still maintaining some semblance of hang time. It seemed to work out."’

Razing Arizona

‘Last week, Willis McGahee talked about making the most of his opportunities, and he did just that against the Cards with 102 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 30 carries. A third touchdown was negated because of a holding penalty. Arizona’s Emmitt Smith, a quality running back of some renown, declared after the game, "The kid is back."’
