5th Down: Chalk Talk with Ralph, Part II

"I think we have a strong league," Wilson said. "We just have to make the right decisions – the owners and the commissioner – down the road to keep it strong. The revenue-sharing keeps the small-market teams in business. Without revenue-sharing, Buffalo couldn't have a team because we couldn't keep up."

Bills should be able to choose from long line of free-agent ‘backers

‘Besides Spikes, top-notch outside backers whose contracts are up include Chicago’s Rosevelt Colvin, Philadelphia’s Shawn Barber, Seattle’s Anthony Simmons and Indianapolis’ Mike Peterson.’

2002 Week-by-week overtime results

Bills played in three of record 25 overtimes winning two on passes of Bledsoe to Henry and Peerless Price and losing one on opening kickoff to Jets.

Bears’ Blache has San Francisco brass rolling in aisles

‘Jauron has considered other options in case Blache gets the job. One Internet report said former Bengals head coach Dick LeBeau, who is Jauron’s good friend, is holding off on accepting a defensive assistant job with Buffalo until he finds out for sure whether there would be an opening for a defensive coordinator with the Bears. Bears linebacker coach Gary Moeller has been a defensive coordinator, as well.’

Hall of Fame Presenters Named

Guard Joe DeLamielleure, who distinguished himself with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns, has selected the recently retired Buffalo News sports writer/columnist Larry Felser. “Although I didn’t always agree with what he said, Larry was always honest and fair,” DeLamielleure said.

Football still figures prominently in life of Marv Levy, 77

‘”Television ratings would seem to give an indication that football has emerged as the most prominent spectator sport, particularly in the U.S.,” said Levy, who splits time between his home town of Chicago and a winter residence in Williamsburg, Va.’

Frank Coyle: Bills hope D-linemen fall in draft

The Bills do not have a first-round pick in April, but they hope to draft a top defensive performer in the second and third rounds. Buffalo, of course, will debate the possibilities. Drafting an offensive playmaker is not entirely out of the question. Still, defensive linemen are Buffalo’s biggest need and that is a fairly strong group with the addition of underclassmen.

Off the scrap heap: LeBeau would make an excellent addition to Bills’ defensive staff

Andy Hanacek gives his opinion as to why Tom Modrak and (hopefully) the hiring of Dick LeBeau are shrewd moves by Tom Donahoe

Notes: Free agency different in restricted territory

It’s looking more and more like Price will be hit with a franchise tag, which will almost certainly keep him Buffalo. The Bills don’t think second-year receiver Josh Reed is ready for a No. 2 role behind Eric Moulds, so Price will be tagged.

Bush should hire Donahoe to create U.S. jobs

I hear the Bills might create a job for ex-Bengals head coach Dick LeBeau, who was the Steelers’ defensive coordinator for a couple of seasons when Buffalo president and general manager Tom Donahoe worked there.
