Bills place MLB Cowart on injured reserve

‘Bills rookie coach Gregg Williams probably regrets his decision to waive veteran linebacker John Holecek in training camp in the wake of Cowart’s injury. Bills heighten security measures at Ralph Wilson Stadium

Bills’ Defensive Stalwart Out for Season

The Buffalo Bills will be without their best defensive player for the rest of the season.

Bills rookie coach Gregg Williams probably regrets his decision to waive veteran LB John Holecek in training camp in the wake of Cowart’s injury. Holecek was a starter at inside LB in Buffalo’s 3-4 defense last year, but was deemed expendable when Williams switched to a 4-3 alignment.

Stillers @ Buffalo Pre-game Report

‘Buffalo has assembled one of the worst offensive lines to ever soil an NFL uniform.’

Stillers @ Bills Preview

‘The Bills, who have won 7 straight home games against the Black and Gold, will prevail over a sloppy, meek Steeler team, 17-16.’

Bills to place Cowart on injured reserve

Middle linebacker Sam Cowart, the Buffalo Bills’ best defensive player, is out for the season.

Coach Gregg Williams said on Wednesday that the team will place Cowarton injured reserve, ending his season. Cowart is recovering from surgery to repair a torn right Achilles’ tendon he hurt in the second series of the Bills’ season-opening game against New Orleans.

This week pivotal for Steelers

‘Buffalo is not a very good team. In fact, the Bills are awful…The Steelers aren’t a bad team. But they aren’t a great one, either.’

Lancaster brings healthy work ethic to role with Bills

‘Lancaster is the director of player programs for the Buffalo Bills, a role that finds him with only a rooting interest in the Bills’ on-field performance. And a very active interest in the future of Bills’ players. "My job encompasses quite a few things," said Lancaster, a 1995 graduate of California University, who earned his masters degree in counseling there in 1998. "I work with the athletes and their families in relocating assistance and adjusting to life here. But my big focus is on continuing education and financial planning."’

Confidence elevates Clements

‘"I feel I can play with anybody," Clements said. "I’m as good as the man across from me, if not better."’

Steelers face soft Bills ‘D’

‘"They are going through a process of getting a feel for Gregg’s defense and the things he did (as defensive coordinator) at Tennessee," Cowher said. "They have some young guys playing (on defense) right now, and with a new defense, you would like to have some experience. I expect them to get better each week." The Steelers can only hope the Bills don’t improve this week.’

Steelers report no major problems on injury front

‘"Eric Moulds is one of the most gifted wide receivers in the NFL," Townsend said. "And we’ll prepare as if he’s playing. He’s such a great player for them that I’m sure they’ll try to get him ready to play."’

Vikings sign Bills castoff at safety

‘"I wanted to come to a contender, and I think we can turn this around from 0-2 and be a Super Bowl contender," Jones said. "I turned down Detroit because I didn’t think they’d be a contender, but I feel good about this situation."’
