Covington was shot as he struggled with one of the men. The men fled on foot, said Bill Shralow, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's office. Covington was a third-round draft pick in 1995. He played for the Buffalo Bills until 1997 when a knee injury ended his career. His attempted at a comeback in 1998 fizzled when he was waived by the team.
