Marker Bills slow start could boost Sabres ticket sales [11:53 AM]
Business First of Buffalo reports: 'Can there be a benefit to the Bills 0-3 start? Though no one involved would ever publicly admit it, there is a good chance the Sabres can gain some fans.'

Marker Bills Stumble to Defeat for the Ages [11:50 AM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'Buffalo's season of football futility reached historic depths Sunday during the New York Jets' deceptively close 42-36 win over the Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Jets tied the the 26-year-old record for points scored by a Buffalo opponent in a non-strike game played in Orchard Park. Mo Lewis' 15-yard fumble return, New York's second defensive touchdown, with 1:46 left in the third quarter equalled a standard set by the Baltimore Colts during a 42-35 win in 1975. The Indianapolis version of the Colts, filled with picket-line crossers, ran up a 47-6 win during the 1987 player's strike.'

Marker 5th Down: Duty to perform [9:44 AM] reports: 'Bryce Fisher heard it first while driving to the stadium. When he arrived at the Buffalo Bills' training complex around 1:30 Sunday afternoon, he talked to a few other teammates who had heard the same thing on their radios: Two days shy of four weeks after the World Trade Center and Pentagon bombings, the United States had fired back. Cruise missiles were soaring toward Afghanistan. An act of war had been reciprocated, with the promise of more to come.'

Marker Turnovers cost Bills in loss to Jets [9:42 AM] reports: 'Offensively, Buffalo turned in its best performance of the season with 36 points, as Alex Van Pelt came in for an injured Rob Johnson and completed 21 of 37 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson suffered a back strain and a pinched nerve as he was hit in the back of the head by Lewis late in the first quarter and did not return.'

Marker Bills can't 'turnover' a new leaf [9:09 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'They lost big for a fourth straight week but found a new way to do it against the New York Jets. They inflicted most of the damage to themselves.'

Marker Bills' receivers play catch-up [9:09 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Overall, the Bills passing game had 325 yards through the air. Although much of the yardage came late in a 42-36 loss to the New York Jets, it was what the Bills had in mind when they installed the West Coast offense.'

Marker Dominant Lewis mows down Bills [9:08 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Lewis was ready for the Bills. They weren't ready for Lewis.'

Marker Lights are going out on the Bad News Bills [9:07 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'That's the sort of year it's become. Dark. Dank. Depressing. Seasoned Buffalo Bills fans can feel it in their bones - a troubling chill, beckoning from back in the '80s. You wanted to believe in this team, but there is no mistaking it now. The Bills are very bad, as bad as they've been in a generation.'

Marker If it weren't for bad luck, Johnson wouldn't have any [9:07 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Whether Johnson belongs here is no longer a relevant topic; here he is, like it or not. More worrisome is whether he will leave here intact. How many times can his head be scrambled before the damage becomes enduring? Will every morning of his later years begin with the joints of his battered body screaming in defiance? And, while we're at it, let's also consider whether there has been a Bill more prone, no, not to injury, but to widespread misfortune.'

Marker Henry cracks 100-yard barrier [9:06 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Even though the Buffalo Bills were playing catch-up throughout their 42-36 loss to the New York Jets Sunday, Henry was able to do some damage with 113 yards on 19 carries.'

Marker Monday Billboard [9:05 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'It's been a long time since Western New York has watched a team this poor...'.

Marker Among fans, fliers here, no surprise [9:04 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Few in the sellout crowd said they feared for their safety at the game, and that included some who have seen firsthand the toll of terror in New York.'

Marker It's fourth down for Bills [7:16 AM]
D and C reports: 'The Jumbotron showed that the Bills produced 36 points. That was one more point than they had scored in their previous three games combined. However, the Jumbotron also revealed that the New York Jets had scored 42 points. News flash: Thirty-six beats 42 in golf, not in football.'

Marker Heart isn't enough right now [7:16 AM]
D and C reports: 'Gregg Williams said it all when he commented after the game that his team isn't good enough to win when it spots an opponent 14 points before he's had time to strap on his headset. Come to think of it, his team, as currently constituted, isn't good enough to win when the game starts 0-0.'

Marker Bills don't lack effort or hustle, just some talent [7:15 AM]
D and C reports: 'While the game showcased Buffalo's perseverance -- and some promising signs out of rookie coach Gregg Williams and his staff -- the game wasn't as close as the final score or the statistics said it was.'

Marker Johnson can't be faulted for his latest injury [7:14 AM]
D and C reports: 'It was a cheap shot, a dirty play, a WWF pile driver, and though the zebras didn't toss a flag, the commissioner's office would be wise to review the tapes and lighten Lewis' wallet this week.'

Marker Report card [7:13 AM]
D and C reports: 'Eric Moulds and Peerless Price do play for this team. They combined for nine catches and 210 yards with Moulds scoring on a 46-yard play and Price a 70-yarder. Each dropped passes, however, to pull down the grade.'

Marker Fans' minds on more than just football [7:13 AM]
D and C reports: '"Now, that we've taken military action against the terrorists, you have to be concerned about what steps they will take to retaliate. You have to think that a football stadium with this many people would be a prime target. But what are you going to do? We've got tickets, we're here, so we're going."'

Marker Bills a writeoff [7:12 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: 'They were beaten for the fourth consecutive time yesterday, 42-36, by a shaky New York Jets team. It should be noted that the game was not that close. Six points suggests the Bills were competitive. In fact, they were never a serious threat. They flirted with it a couple of times, but their rallies were a mirage.'

Marker Jets Turn Defense Into Points [7:11 AM]
New York Times reports: 'It can be a sign of a maturing team when it can kick a bad team when it is down. And, more importantly, a sign that a struggling team might have found its footing is when it does not sink to the level of an even worse team. If that is the case, the Jets made progress today with a 42-36 victory over the inept Buffalo Bills.'

Marker Jets Were Thinking 'About All the Troops' [7:10 AM]
New York Times reports: '"I saw that," Jets Coach Herman Edwards said, alluding to the war news after his team's 42-36 victory. "You think about all the troops over there who are fighting for us so that we can stand here. Your prayers are with them."'

Marker Lewis's Elbow Fells Johnson [7:09 AM]
New York Times reports: 'This game was a homecoming for the Jets' defensive coordinator, Ted Cottrell, who spent 10 years with the Bills and who interviewed for their head coaching job in the off-season before they hired Gregg Williams. Many Buffalo players made their way to the Jets' sideline to greet Cottrell during warm-ups.'

Marker For Jets Defense, Points Well Taken [7:08 AM]
New York Daily News reports: 'These weren't the Bills of Kelly, Thomas and Reed, so the Jets (2-2) would be foolish to get too giddy with the victory, especially with the Dolphins (3-1) next on the schedule. Nonetheless, it was a sorely needed jolt for the Jets' psyche, which appeared to be at the breaking point after last week's loss.'

Marker Martin Is Finally Able To Find Buffalo Wings [7:08 AM]
New York Daily News reports: '"I felt we broke the curse, broke the hex today because the Bills had had my number since I've been with the Jets," Martin said after running 26 times for 135 yards and scoring twice. "The only two successful games against them were the two games my rookie year. It was something we definitely needed."'

Marker Bills: No Room For Mo's Elbow [7:07 AM]
New York Daily News reports: 'Rob Johnson thought the hit was dirty. Mo Lewis didn't think he could have avoided it. It will be up to the NFL to determine who is right.'

Marker Better, But Not Quite Greener Pastures [7:06 AM]
New York Daily News reports: 'It was an unusual strategic move — to start the game with an onside kick. Maybe the Bills were hoping to catch the Jets asleep and set them back on their heels. "It actually helped us," said Ted Cottrell, the Jets defensive coordinator/assistant head coach. "We stopped them and got the ball back. It gave us a jolt and we responded positively."

Marker Vinny Finds It Hard to Focus [7:05 AM]
New York Daily News reports: '"A lot of thoughts were running through my mind," he said after the Jets' 42-36 win over the Bills. "It was tough during the pregame warmups. I had to go back in the locker room and review the plays again, just to reassure myself. It was distracting, but at the same time, we had a job to do."'

Marker Jets: Report Card [7:04 AM]
New York Daily News reports: 'Offensive Line: A- Controlled the line of scrimmage against Buffalo's eight-man fronts. Nice job picking up blitzes. No sacks allowed.'

Marker Big-play Jets take out bumplin' Bills [7:03 AM]
New York Post reports: 'The Jets' defense, which missed 18 tackles in the 19-17 loss to the 49ers, pushed the Bills around, forcing five turnovers - three in the first quarter - and knocking Buffalo QB Rob Johnson out of the game late in the first quarter with a pinched nerve in his neck.'
