Marker Mularkey ready for first test as Bills coach [9:21 PM]
AP reports: '''He doesn't seem like a first-time NFL head coach,'' Bledsoe said Friday after Buffalo's practice with Cleveland at the Bills' suburban Rochester training camp. ''He seems like a guy that is a very natural fit for the position.'''

Marker Gildon Committed to Success [4:46 PM] reports: 'Gildon said the Bills are in for a challenge this weekend and should get a great test from the Browns. He said they always come to play and never back down. "It's going to be a very spirited and physical practice as well as scrimmage," Gildon said. "Those guys want to come down with the mind set of getting something done and we're going to take the same approach. We're going to go out there and be physical and get something done. It's going to be a good one."'

Marker Transcript: Quarterback Drew Bledsoe [4:45 PM] reports: 'On the four-second 'quarterback alarm' on Bills QB Drew Bledsoe during practice:
That's been the history of that clock. That clock is supposedly a sack. We are presented as when that clock goes, throw it to your check down, your outlet, and that's still giving him time before a sack. He's done really well with it, we chart it and monitor it everyday and let him know what he's done, and for the most part he's getting it out of his hands.'

Marker Boyer hurt in practice with Bills [3:28 PM] reports: Bills DB Troy Vincent said the morning was a "feeling-out process" and said the key to getting something out of those practices was staying away from unnecessary activity. "I saw what most of their guys can do," Vincent said. "So after this first practice I'll have a different game plan for this afternoon and the scrimmage." Vincent even asked Browns WR Andre' Davis before practice what Davis wanted to work on. Davis gave Vincent some ideas, and Vincent said he tried to oblige.

Marker Browns LB Boyer out with broken foot [2:06 PM] reports: Browns linebacker Brant Boyer is out indefinitely after breaking his right foot during practice with the Buffalo Bills on Friday, Aug. 6. Boyer was hurt during the first of two sessions between the teams at the Bills' training camp in suburban Rochester, where the teams will scrimmage Aug. 7.

Marker Gildon wants to help any way he can [1:07 PM]
Niagara Gazette reports: 'I think, top to bottom, this may be the best defense Ive ever played with, free agent cornerback Troy Vincent said. If we can put it all together, were going to be awfully tough to beat.'

Marker Bills' offensive line preparing for big test [8:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"They're big, strong guys up front," said Bills guard Chris Villarrial. "It will be a good test for us to see where we're at because we want to run the ball. We're committed to running it, and we want to see where we stand."'

Marker Reed hopes to put 2003 behind him [8:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'No, Reed is not Peerless Price. But Reed is a very good football player who can be effective in the right system. New Bills coach Mike Mularkey plans to make better use of Reed's talents than the previous coaching regime. That means working more as a slot receiver and taking advantage of his run-after-the-catch skills by getting him the ball on short and intermediate pass routes.'

Marker The billboard [8:54 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Three NFL refs were at practice and calling penalties Thursday. The penalties for illegal contact by defensive players versus receivers 5 yards beyond the line of scrimmage and defensive holding are major points of emphasis this year, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.'

Marker New legs get their churn [5:20 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'I was a Browns fan, yes, said Evans, whose parents and two sisters will be in the crowd. But I've got to go out there and do my job. I'm a Buffalo Bill. The Browns are a secondary thought.'

Marker Gildon tackles new role [5:19 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'I feel confident in my ability, and if given the opportunity I can still go out there and play every down, said Gildon, who last year passed L.C. Greenwood to become the Steelers' all-time sack leader. It's just coming in and getting that opportunity.'

Marker Meaty competition is with baby backs [5:18 AM]
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: 'Buffalo's linebackers are a formidable group, the strength of a Bills' defense that last season ranked second in yards allowed, eighth against the run and fifth in points.'

Marker Buffalo to give Browns first test [5:12 AM]
Akron Beacon Journal reports: 'The scrimmage will run from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, with the first teams battling for 10 to 12 plays, then moving on to the second team. Field goals and extra points will be attempted before the scrimmage.'

Marker Wyche comes to life [5:12 AM]
Akron Beacon Journal reports: '``Maybe another team would have said, `You've got a coach whose heart's dying and he can't speak above a whisper or a quiet conversation and he hasn't coached in nine years. Let's see, do we want him on our staff?' '' Wyche said. The Bills did.'

Marker Sam Wyche file [5:10 AM]
Akron Beacon Journal reports: 'Playing career: Cincinnati Bengals under Paul Brown (1968-70); Washington Redskins (1971-73); Detroit Lions (1974); St. Louis Cardinals (1976); Buffalo Bills (1976).'

Marker No Hard Feelings [5:10 AM]
Philadelphia Daily News reports: '"My goal when I became a free agent was to make what I made my last 2 years in Philly," says Vincent, whose combined base salaries with the Eagles the last 2 years was $7.5 million. "And I got it."'

Marker Browns face first test today [5:08 AM]
Lorain Morning Journal reports: 'In the scrimmage tomorrow each team will alternate possessions getting the ball for 10 or 12 plays beginning at its own 35. The team has four chances to make a first down. If it does not the ball goes back to the 35, even if it is on the opponent's 5.'

Marker Browns to face Bills for two days [5:07 AM]
Warren Tribune Chronicle reports: '"Our defense will see Drew Bledsoe throw the ball," Davis said. "We'll get a chance to see some other runners in the game. They have two really talented running backs, so it will be good to see them work."'

Marker McGahee braces for Browns scrimmage [10:16 PM]
AP reports: '``No nerves,'' McGahee said. ``But it's good to play against other people besides your teammates that aren't going to treat you easily. Yeah, it's an important step.'''

Marker Bills FB Burns out with high ankle sprain [10:16 PM]
AP reports: 'Coach Mike Mularkey didn't provide a timetable for Burns' recovery other than to say he'll be out for a while.'

Marker Transcript: Coach Mike Mularkey [10:14 PM] reports: 'Tomorrow we've got full pads, broken down in 9-on-7, inside run drills, 7-on-7, and team period. Special teams will face each other, and that's all in the morning. In the afternoon they're going to go into shoulder pads and we'll have a blitz period and, again, another team period like we had today, finishing up with a two two-minute segments. Saturday we'll have designed drives. After a brief special teams period we'll go right into the scrimmage, designed to flip-flop offense and defense and with little wrinkles to it depending on where the drive ends and all those things. We'll get a lot of good work and a lot of situational football that's tough to script.'

Marker Bills Gear Up for Browns [10:13 PM] reports: '"It's kind of a way to rejuvinate camp. No matter how tired or sore you are, you see another color line up, it always gets violent," said defensive tackle Oliver Gibson.'

Marker Upcoming classes and current players cause several HOF conundrums [8:19 PM]
CNN/SI reports: Pick a Buffalo Bill: Thomas vs. Reed. Right now I'd have to go with Aikman and Thomas. No wait a minute, I can't leave Warren Moon off. But how can I leave off Thomas, the heart and soul of the Bills' K-Gun offense? I told you, brutal!

Marker Browns Headed To Rochester [5:44 PM] reports: 'The Browns, who were held in single-digit scoring on six occasions last year and averaged just 12.5 points per game over the final six weeks, will be at the Bills' training camp home at St. John Fisher College on Friday and Saturday. The teams will practice against one another twice on Friday, at 9 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., and a sold-out scrimmage is slated for 11 a.m. Saturday.'

Marker The billboard [1:05 PM]
Buffalo News reports: 'There has been no rotation on the first team at the position manned by Ruben Brown for the past nine seasons. Mike Pucillo has taken all the snaps with the starting unit. "The plan is Pucillo has kind of got the job unless he struggles; we give him the first shot," said offensive line coach Jim McNally. "That's a decision we've made."'

Marker Milloy settling in [1:02 PM]
Niagara Gazette reports: 'This is not a rebuilding process here by any stretch, first-year head coach Mike Mularkey said. We have a group of veteran players here who know how to win, and its not going to take much to get this thing going in the right direction.'

Marker Transcript: Coach Mike Mularkey [12:51 PM] reports: 'On if he was focusing on Willis McGahee during goal line:
Yes I was, but I was also looking at the line to see what kind of movement we get and what type of attitude we had up front in the trenches. Willis did fine. I'm anxious to see it on film.'

Marker Tackle Mike Williams Rejoins Teammates [9:54 AM] reports: '"It was personal family problems just to categorize it," Williams said as he addressed the media after practice. "Those things are over. I'm out here on the field and I'm committed to being out here on the field playing for the Bills as long as they will have me. I will be out here giving 100 percent."'

Marker After apologizing, Williams goes to work [8:54 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"It had nothing to do with the Bills, nothing to do with Marcus Price, nothing to do with me being out of shape or on the second team. It was personal problems - family - to categorize it."'
