Marker Pennington's memory bank pays big dividends [5:50 AM]
Newark Star Ledger reports: 'In the past two seasons, Pennington is 11-6 as a starter. He has completed 388 of 571 passes -- 67.9 percent -- for 4,510 yards, 34 TDs and 12 interceptions. He has a passer rating of 102.7.'

Marker Another wild ride for Jets? [5:48 AM]
New Haven Register reports: 'Already eliminated from defending their AFC East title — New England is 10-2 with four games left — and assuming the first wild-card berth goes to the AFC South runner-up between Indianapolis and Tennessee (both 9-3), the Jets would be aiming at the second wild-card spot. Miami (8-4) is leading the pack for that berth and it plays host to the Jets in the season finale Dec. 28. In order for the Jets to win that game and make the playoffs, they would need to also win their previous three (at Buffalo and against Pittsburgh and New England at home) while Miami wins no more than one of its next three (at New England, home against Philadelphia and at Buffalo).'

Marker Bills offense catches on vs. Giants [5:16 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'In all, the Bills had nine pass plays of 15 yards or more and seven that went for 20 or better. Bledsoe completed 19 of 29 passes for 252 yards, the most for him in eight games, and a sparkling 115.9 rating, his best since a 144.2 against Jacksonville in Week 2.'

Marker What does Sunday's win mean for Bills? [5:15 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'At this point, any win is a good win for this team, but I still contend that unless the Bills are the 1978 Yankees, who overcame a 14-game deficit to catch and ultimately beat the Red Sox, the playoffs are a pie-in-the-sky dream.'

Marker Depressingly bad [5:14 AM]
New York Post reports: 'Offensive line - F. Starting undrafted rookie Jeff Roehl at LT is too much to ask. He was brutalized by DE Aaron Schobel (three sacks) and said it was one of the worst days of his life. Who are we to argue? Six sacks allowed overall.'

Marker Bills jell vs. Giants, but season's a bust [5:11 AM]
USA Today reports: 'The Bills have experienced assorted problems protecting the less-than-mobile Bledsoe, and they rank among the worst teams in the league at third-down conversions. Some of that might be explained by a groin injury to wide receiver Eric Moulds, whose game-breaking abilities have been compromised, and the trade that sent Peerless Price, another explosive wideout, to Atlanta for a first-round draft choice. But Donahoe says, ''You can't say not having Peerless Price was the reason we didn't score an offensive touchdown on the road in almost two months. I love Peerless and he's an impact player, but he doesn't have that kind of impact.'''

CBS Sportsline reports: 'In the last four games Buffalo's defense has allowed just 46 points, 283 yards rushing, 57 first downs, 22 of 59 third-down conversions and has 12 sacks. In the first eight games, Buffalo had only 13 sacks.'

Marker Notes, quotes, anecdotes [5:08 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'K Rian Lindell has run into a tough patch on field goals. He has missed four of his last seven kicks, including a 50-yarder that came up well short against the Giants. For the season he is 13 of 19.'

WIVB-TV reports: 'Sunday did emphasize what I've believed all along. Drew Bledsoe is not as bad as this recent stretch. Put in the right situation, he can still complete passes and move the offense. The Bills can still win with Drew. They just need to improve the pieces around Bledsoe, including their offensive coordinator.'
