Marker Defense Delivers on Turnover Promise [5:18 AM] reports: '"That's the whole design of the fire zones we run," Denney said. "We hope we put some pressure on quick, have London Fletcher cover momentarily is what it is. When someone got to him, he wasn't able to get a good pass off and it floated right by me. I was able to spin on it and pick it off."'

Marker Transcript: Coach Mike Mularkey [5:16 AM] reports: 'On what the team still has to work on:
There are some times defensively our objective was to keep them in third-and-long situations, then when you do what you set out to do, you have to stop them on those third-and-long's. We gave up a couple there that kept drives going. It's going to happen and we talked about it. Offensively, a couple penalties put us back, but other than that I thought we were pretty efficient. It's hard to overcome some of the penalties we had. Some of the things we talked about with the alignment of the receivers was addressed and we still have problems with that, so obviously I have to do a better job getting that across to these guys.'

Marker Bills, NFL Network Kick Off Preseason [5:15 AM] reports: '"Wiring 13 players in one game is a feat that has never been attempted in NFL history," said Bill Graff, executive of studio and remote production at NFL Films.'

Marker Transcript: Coach Mike Mularkey [4:15 PM] reports: 'On what Mike Pucillo has done to separate himself from the other guards in earning the starting left guard position at this point in time:
He's done a lot of things, not just what took place on the field, but some things that happened in the weight room and classroom. Like I've told you guys, every second they're out here they're evaluated. We felt, overall, he had an edge over (Ross) Tucker. We just felt, at the time, we could not keep rotating them, we weren't giving them a fair shot with the rotation we were putting them through, so we just felt we had to put somebody in there and see what he could do when he's with the same guys every snap. He's done well.'

Marker Bills defenders happy to bid Ricky Williams farewell [4:15 PM]
AP reports: 'Backup DT Justin Bannan, who broke a bone in his left hand during a practice against Cleveland on Friday, returned to practice Monday wearing a cast. Bannan was held out of Buffalo's scrimmage against the Browns on Saturday.'

Buffalo News reports: '"I'm sure they're going to emphasize it more in the preseason, probably really go hard and make an extra effort to make a point," said Bills coach Mike Mularkey. "I handed out a memo (to the players) that I got from the NFL to prove again that they're serious."'

Rochester D&C reports: '“It's a horrible rule for them to put in place for the defense,” said Bills' backup safety Pierson Prioleau. “It's almost putting handcuffs on the defense. It makes it almost impossible to get up on a guy. How close can you get without touching him?”'

Marker St. John Fisher gets a buzz out of Bills [5:24 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'The Bills have made other contributions to the campus, Bosworth said. The first year of camp, the team brought industrial washers and dryers and other things that have stayed at Fisher and are used during the school year, she said. The NFL camp also has an educational side for Fisher, as Bills front-office personnel have served as guest lecturers in its sports studies program and at the college's annual sportsmanship conference, said Gerry Rooney, vice president for enrollment management and external relations.'

Marker Inside slant [4:25 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Add it all up and at the moment, Buffalo has a $38 million backup on its hands. After returning to work, Williams vowed not to let his teammates and coaches down again. It's a start. "I've missed a lot and I've got to catch up, conditioning wise and terminology wise," Williams said. "But the important thing was getting back on the field. The only way to learn it all is to get back on the field. It's a relief to be back out here. I know these guys are counting on me and I know what I can give them. I'm going to show them what I'm going to be like from now on."'

Marker Strategy and personnel [4:24 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'The coaches would like to develop a viable backup center behind Trey Teague, but Tucker is still hopeful he can get enough repetitions to win the starting LG job vacated by the departed Brown (Chicago Bears). Sullivan continues to swing between tackle and guard and doesn't appear a serious threat to Puccillo at left guard.'

Marker Notes, quotes [4:23 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'QB Drew Bledsoe arrived at camp sporting a brush cut. It was worse. He actually shaved his head over the summer at his mountain lake retreat in Montana. "I've wanted for years to shave my head in the summer," Bledsoe said. "I figured, 'I'm at the lake, nobody's around, why not?' The only problem is that some of it has grown back gray."'

Marker Young Bills Show Positive Signs vs. Browns [4:22 AM] reports: '"We got to see some of the younger guys and what they were going to do in their first live competition," said Mike Mularkey. "It's hard to give them a grade right now, immediately, but I'm assuming it should be good watching it on tape for some of the young guys."'

Marker Bledsoe puts Bills offense on same page [7:11 PM]
Niagara Gazette reports: 'Bills coach Mike Mularkey had no problems with Bledsoe letting the offense know where he stood. “I was extremely pleased by what he did on the sidelines,” Mularkey said. “Don’t wait until Monday to tell them. He recognized there was an issue and he addressed it.”'

Marker AFC East preview [9:21 AM] reports: 'Mularkey's primary task is to restore balance to the attack, to reduce the sacks and turnovers and in that way help Bledsoe and the warrior defense (coord. Jerry Gray has been retained). If he can do it, the Bills can play with any team in the AFC East (except New England).'

Marker A day for the foot soldiers [9:19 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"As the day went on, from my perspective, it looked like he got more comfortable, as he took another hit and took another hit," said backup quarterback Travis Brown. "He started to run a little harder. On the goal line he was putting his head down and getting in there. On a couple plays we were really close to seeing something unbelieveable. He was really close."'

Marker Donahoe takes a sack with Williams pick [9:17 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'He's just another "U" for unsatisfactory on Donahoe's report card.'

Marker Bledsoe not satisfied with offense [9:16 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"I think two things were apparent," Bledsoe said. "No. 1, we came out and ran the ball extremely well the first couple of plays. We showed what we're capable of against a good defense. We also showed if we can't build a little bit more mental toughness to fight through the adversity of one mistake and not allow that to snowball into two and three mistakes, then we're not going to be successful."

Marker The billboard [9:15 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"You could really see Lee's speed," Brown said. "He was so wide-open that I didn't want to overthrow him. He probably would have scored if I hit him in stride. But I wanted to complete the ball. We had one yesterday that just went off his fingertips. That was in the back of my mind."'

Marker McGahee impressive after long recovery [5:20 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“Two things were very apparent,” Bledsoe said. “We came out and ran the ball extremely well the first couple of plays. We showed what we are capable of against a good defense running the ball the way we did. We also showed that if we can't build a little more mental toughness to fight through the adversity of one mistake and not allow that to snowball into two or three mistakes, we're not going to be successful.'

Marker Reese predicts stronger defense [5:19 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“We're going to be better this year. We've got more chemistry, and in this scrimmage alone it's starting to show. We were able to make some turnovers and guys were starting to make more plays because they know the defense.”'

Marker Bills unlikely to match 2003 Panthers [5:18 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'In order to match the success of the 2003 Panthers, Buffalo's defense would have to produce significantly more turnovers, Travis Henry and Willis McGahee would have to be at least as effective rushing the football as Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster were last year, and QB Drew Bledsoe would have to bounce back and be at least as productive as the 2003 version of Jake Delhomme (3,219 yards passing with 19 TD passes and 16 interceptions).'

Marker Day 9 [5:17 AM]
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: 'Jeff Garcia's first pass as a Brown in a game-type situation was one he'll soon try to forget.'

Marker Suggs outplays Green in scrimmage [5:16 AM]
Akron Beacon Journal reports: 'The play was designed to go to the left, with Suggs following fullback Terrelle Smith. But Suggs said the Browns had watched film of the Bills Friday night and noticed that their defense often overpursued. Suggs said Smith told him before the snap he was going to try to create a hole in the middle.'
