Marker Bills trio refuses to be Buffaloed [8:45 PM]
Pro Football Weekly reports:

Marker Flutie honored by Women's Fund [1:41 PM]
Boston Globe reports: '''By recognizing me tonight, you make me feel so proud as a parent, because not only do you recognize me but you recognize my son and all of his accomplishments, and for that I thank you very much,'' said Flutie, who, with her husband Doug, cofounded the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism 18 months ago. Their son, Dougie, 7, was diagnosed with autism when he was 3 1/2. The fund has raised more than $1 million toward research and helping financially disadvantaged families care for their children. Giving it a boost was her husband's outstanding 1998 season as quarterback for the Buffalo Bills.'

Marker The grill of it all [1:33 PM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'Who tailgates best around the league? The fans of the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers make the "All-Madden Team of Pro Tailgaters," based on "endurance, you know, just being able to play all 60 minutes of the game and be as good at the end as you are in the beginning," he says. (And, by the way, stick to those football metaphors.)'

Marker It's too early to count out Parcells, Jets [1:30 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'Buffalo quarterback Doug Flutie mused of the Jets’ injury woes, “It’s the ultimate compliment to a coach ... you think of Bill Parcells first. “It’s his team and, no matter who he has on the field, he’s going to get the most of them and have them ready to play good football”. He added “Yeah, Vinny’s down and they have some other injuries but I fully expect the Jets to walk out on the field ... line it up ... and be ready to roll. You expect no less from a Bill Parcells team.”'

Marker Jets hope to get healthy crunching Flutie [7:39 AM]
Bergen Record reports: '"Obviously," [Jets Linebacker Chad] Cascadden said, tipping his hat to Bill Belichick, "our defensive coordinator is unique in how he attacks Flutie every time we play him."'

Marker Strong desire, but weak knee forces Tindale to call it quits [7:15 AM]
National Post reports: 'Tindale did see spot duty at fullback with Buffalo. His most productive offensive game came in September, 1997, against the New York Jets when he caught four passes for 106 yards. Two years earlier, Tindale rushed for 68 yards on four carries in a 37-22 playoff win over Miami, scoring his first NFL touchdown on a 44-yard run. Buffalo released Tindale in April, 1998, after defensive co-ordinator Wade Phillips succeeded Levy as head coach and the club signed free-agent fullback Sam Gash..."It's arthritis, it's not like a ligament or something that can heal," Tindale said. "The doctors tell me I have a 60-year-old knee and I'm just 28."'

Marker Bills preparing rude welcome for Jets' Mirer [6:37 AM]
Toronto Star reports: 'Mirer, a journeyman since being drafted No. 2 over-all by the Seattle Seahawks in 1993, is poor at reading blitzes, so look for the Bills to do much more of that than they did in their opening 31-14 upset loss to the Colts in Indianapolis. Buffalo's blitz threat would also pose problems for the Jets' favourite spread offence, which leaves no one in the backfield to block for the quarterback.'

Marker Smith: Blame me for lousy running game [6:22 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: '"I've got to improve my play and we need to improve as a team, but I put all the blame on myself," Smith said Wednesday. "I need to hit the holes better. Now that Thurman's out, somebody's going to have to step up."'

Marker Jets, Mirer respond to Parcells' coaching [6:19 AM]
D & C reports: 'The rarely admired Mirer could never be compared to Johnny U, but does Parcells have confidence in him? "Well, I don't know that there is any," said the coach, whose honesty hits harder than Lawrence Taylor. "I'm telling you the truth. All we've seen is part of a preseason game with Rick, that's all we've seen. To say, we really know for sure what's going to happen, we don't know. All we can do is prepare him the best we can to be successful and see if we can't give him the right support. Now coming up there, playing this team (the Bills) in this set of circumstances, that won't be easy for him but that's the only way we can approach it."'

Marker Flutie vs. Belichick [12:45 PM]
Shout! reports: Doug Flutie faces Bill Belichick's defense once again Sunday. New York's defensive coordinator shut Flutie down last year.

Marker Flutie can feel Testaverde's pain, but he wants Bills to beat Jets [7:51 AM]
Toronto Globe & Mail reports: '"Now you look at this week's game and think that hopefully we'll catch them while they're still struggling," Flutie said. "It throws a wrench into their whole season. Miami's probably the front runner now instead of New York. But, they're going to find a way to win. Bill Parcells is not going to let them feel sorry for themselves. "He's got a knack for getting the most out of everybody."'

Marker STORY LINES / Rushing for Room [7:44 AM]
New York Newsday reports: 'The Bills, who churned for 146 yards against the Jets last December at Ralph Wilson Stadium, will have a hard time collecting anywhere near that Sunday night, thanks to a suspect offensive line and injuries to the running game.'

Marker OSU ex-football star is sentenced [7:32 AM]
Tulsa World reports: 'A charge filed by federal prosecutors in March alleged that Miller submitted false invoices to The Bank beginning around March 1995. Under a business manager agreement negotiated with The Bank that same month, he would then receive advance funds based on the invoices...Miller was an NFL first-round draft pick by the Buffalo Bills. Replacing O.J. Simpson in the Bills backfield, Miller gained more than 1,000 yards in his rookie year.'

Marker Terry Miller sentenced for bank fraud [7:25 AM]
The Daily Oklahoman reports: 'Miller had a brief career in the National Football League with teams in Buffalo and Seattle after a sterling college career at OSU in which he finished fourth in Heisman voting in 1976 and second in 1977.'

Marker Flutie not panicking [7:13 AM]
Toronto Star reports: 'With the bar raised, there is already some early panic in western New York off Sunday's comprehensive defeat. String a couple of efforts like that together, and he'll go from the toast of the town to Flutie Flambe.'

Marker No panic in Flutie's voice [7:06 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: 'Though the offensive line struggled in creating holes for the run and protecting the quarterback, Flutie stood by his big men. "Watching the film, it is assignments more than talent," Flutie said of changes to the offensive line. "We are probably a couple steps back from the end of last year ... but from a talent standpoint, we may be stronger."'

AP reports: "Terry Miller, a two-time All-American running back at Oklahoma State who replaced O.J. Simpson in the Buffalo Bills' backfield, was sentenced in Muskogee, Okla., to two years in prison on Tuesday for defrauding a McAlester bank out of $179,000."

Marker Thomas' injury forces Buffalo to look for new back [6:40 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: 'The Bills were left with only three running backs after Thomas went down on the first play against Indianapolis in the season opener. Thomas will be out for at least six weeks, the team said Monday.'

Marker Reality hits Bills hard [6:26 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: 'Phillips said his team was "shocked" at seeing Thomas lying on the RCADome turf after being levelled by Colts defensive back Tyrone Poole. He'd better hope the incident wasn't an ominous harbinger of the remainder of the season.'

Marker Good news for the Bills: It probably won't get worse [6:21 AM]
D & C reports: 'Forget about the Super Bowl, forget about winning the AFC East, and forget about achieving a wild-card spot in the playoffs. At this point, the Bills need to focus on one thing: Winning one game.'

Marker Bruised liver, kidney to keep Thomas out [6:20 AM]
D & C reports: 'Thomas suffered liver and kidney contusions on the jarring hit he took on the opening play of Sunday's 31-14 season-opening loss at Indianapolis and will be out six weeks, coach Wade Phillips said.'

Marker Bills should rebound from poor Week 1 [6:18 AM]
D & C reports: 'I noticed during the Bills-Colts game that Buffalo played without an offensive line. Is this a new game plan? I sure hope they'll use a line against the Jets this Sunday.'

Marker Thurman Out for Six Weeks [11:39 PM]
TBD reports: "Not only did the Bills get trounced yesterday in Indianapolis, but today it was learned that Thurman Thomas suffered more than a rib injury in that ferocious hit he took from Tyrone Poole on the opening play from scrimmage. The Bills revealed that Thomas suffered contusions of the liver and the kidney. Wade Phillips in a press conference today, said that the future Hall-of-Famer could be lost to the Bills by as much as 6 weeks. Right now, Thomas is recovering in a hospital."
