Marker A winning game plan [5:11 AM]
Jackson Clarion Ledger reports: 'Jasper eats, drinks and bleeds Buffalo red, white and blue because of a chain of loyalties that leads back to Mississippi: Jasper likes the Bills because he likes Eric Moulds because he likes Moulds' alma mater, Mississippi State.'

Marker Fond Memories for Gilbride [5:10 AM] reports: 'Gilbride was the Jaguars first ever offensive coordinator under Waterloo native Tom Coughlin, helping build the expansion team into an instant success. "We took a program that was just starting, and within two years climbed on number eight's back and he took us to the AFC Championship game," Gilbride said of his time in Jacksonville with quarterback Mark Brunell.'

Marker Buffalo Bills run round the outside [5:09 AM] reports: 'Besides the penalties the Bills did have a couple of minor hic-cups. Receiver Josh Reed dropped a well worked flea-flicker and had a disappointing game, punt returner Antonio Brown failed to live up to his pre-season promise (but that should be put down to first game nerves), and the running game never really dominated like it should have done until late in the game. But these were minor glitches in an overall superb performance. The Bills are back looking like the great teams they had a decade ago (is it really that long ?) and can now be considered genuine contenders.'

Marker Jags seek to cool off torrid Bills [5:08 AM]
AP reports: '"We stayed to the plan," Williams said. "It pained me to see some of those great defensive players leave here, but that's what we had to do."'

Marker Milloy quickly settling in with Bills [6:09 PM]
AP reports: '''I'm going to be able to have fun in this defense,'' Milloy said. ''This defense is one that allows the playmakers to make plays, and forces everybody to get to the ball. And it was evident last Sunday.'''

Marker Blacked out [5:04 PM]
Florida Times Union reports: '"We are disappointed that many of our fans will not get to see our home opener," said senior vice president /sales and marketing Dan Connell in a statement released by the Jaguars. Marker Myers Joins Bills Practice Squad [5:01 PM] reports: 'The Bills today announced that the team has signed wide receiver Jerel Myers to its practice squad.'

Marker Bledsoe, Brunell meet up in key AFC battle [4:06 PM]
The Sports Network reports: 'The Bills didn't get a lot of opportunities in the return game for Antonio Brown to show what he could do. The WR/KR returned two kicks for touchdowns in the preseason. He should get a chance to shine this week. Jacksonville was awful on special teams against the Panthers. They had a punt blocked for a safety, the potential winning FG was blocked, and they allowed a 36-yard punt return to set up Carolina's winning score.'

Marker Brunell, Bledsoe linked [3:32 PM] reports: 'Brunell and Bledsoe, two veteran quarterbacks linked by their college football roots and, possibly, by their late-career fates, will face each other this Sunday for the fourth time since they were college rivals at Washington and Washington State.'

The Jaguars host the visiting Buffalo Bills that day at 1 p.m. ET. Stadium vendors will offer Budweiser and Bud Light draught beer, packaged and served bearing the same “Born On” date – September 14, 2003 – allowing consumers to try the freshest beer available.'

Marker Bills set for their future [1:20 PM] reports: '"The ability to get Drew Bledsoe speeded everything up for us," Donahoe admits. "We're very young and we'd like to think our team will grow and get better. Our scouts have done a good job of getting the roster turned over. We've had three good drafts in a row. You need free agency and you have to sprinkle guys in, but the draft is still the life blood of your team. The young guys fit better under the salary cap."'

Marker No TV on Sunday [1:18 PM] reports: 'This Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills will become the first home-opener in Jaguars history not to be shown on local television.'

Marker Jaguars hit with first of several possible blackouts [1:16 PM]
AP reports: 'The Jaguars fell about 8,000 tickets short of the ticket sales needed by Thursday to air the game live within a 75-mile area of Jacksonville.'

Marker Quarterback Drew Bledsoe Previews Jacksonville [11:42 AM] reports: '"They have a tremendous defensive front and it's going to be a tremendous challenge and entirely different challenge that we had going into the Patriots game. These guys don't really try to fool you, they just line up and say here we are see if you can handle us, they are a load."'

Marker Broken Foot KO's Johnson [11:42 AM]
Boston Herald reports: Woody said he will never forget the block by linebacker London Fletcher that laid him out in Buffalo. ``I've never been hit like that before,'' said Woody. ``And I don't ever want to be again. I told him I'd get him the next time.'' . . .

Buffalo News reports: 'Weather could be a big factor for the Buffalo Bills in Sunday's game at Jacksonville. The forecast calls for a temperature of 89 degrees.'

Marker Bills' rising stock will bring night games into play [8:52 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Bills President and General Manager Tom Donahoe reports the Bills are willing to host a Monday night game. I was surprised they didn't get one this year, after their improvement last season.'

Marker Donahoe the biggest acquisition [5:23 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“ He has taken a shell of a football team and in a relatively short period of time turned it into a contender,” Wilson said. “ He is as hard a worker as I’ve ever seen and he is as good a judge of talent as we’ve ever had. Every move in this business is a gamble and he’s pretty much hit on all of them. He’s done a remarkable job.”'

Marker Another Bill faces old foe [5:23 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“ Definitely, I want to go down there and get a victory,” Shaw said. “ You never want to go play against your old team and not come out on top. It will be a big thing where I’m hoping we can get down there and produce a big win.“'

Marker Bills a big kick for Spikes [5:22 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: '"The crowd was big, man, very big," Spikes said. "Myself, I am a very emotional guy when I'm out there on the field. I love to talk and see the fans get into it. I don't think a lot of people know that it helps defensively. It is big."'

Marker Sweep dreams for Jags [5:21 AM]
Florida Times Union reports: 'Although the Bills have Drew Bledsoe at quarterback and like to throw, the Jaguars won't be surprised if the Bills call the toss sweep several times with Travis Henry, who gained 86 yards last week in a 31-0 victory against New England.'

Marker Ah, the aroma of a losing football team [5:21 AM]
Orlando Sentinel reports: 'The Jaguars home opener is Sunday. Unless the four people I saw in line outside Alltel Stadium on Wednesday bought about 2,000 tickets each, the Jags came up about 9,000 tickets short of averting a TV blackout for their first home game.'

Marker Former NFL quarterback seeks new kinds of miracles at Charlotte seminary [5:20 AM]
AP reports: 'Reich, who started his new job July 1, has more than some incredible comeback stories to inspire his students and faculty members. He is fond of reminding listeners that he followed the Houston thriller by setting an inauspicious NFL record just weeks later, losing three fumbles in the Bills' humiliating 52-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXVII. "(God) was with me that day, too," Reich said as he led a visitor down one of the seminary's tree-lined paths on a summer morning. "Both games were tremendous experiences and I love to talk about them. But you need to talk about the whole package."'

Marker Buffalo (1-0) at Jacksonville (0-1) [8:37 PM]
AP reports: '``They brought us here for a reason -- to get better,'' Adams said. ``If we aren't any better, then they made a mistake on us. We worked hard together, gelled together, learned the defense. We came out and executed today and that was very important.'''

Marker Bills WR Reed has a lot of catching up to do [8:35 PM]
AP reports: 'He caught only one pass, for 5 yards, of the seven thrown his way. And most discouraging, Reed dropped the easiest one, off a perfectly timed flea-flicker, that had him wide open inside the New England 20 with a clear path to the end zone.'

Marker Bills Coach Gregg Williams Previews Jacksonville [8:32 PM] reports: '"I think our team spoke it very well in the locker room on Sunday, on how they handled the opening win. It was a good game, but again they put it in perspective and you have to focus week in and week out in this league. You have twenty-four hours to enjoy a win, you have twenty-four hours to suffer a loss. There are no easy games in this league. Our focus has been outstanding in the locker room immediately following the ball game. When they came in on Monday and as we graded the film it was very good focus. We have a lot of things to improve upon, a lot of things we have to work on. Our attendance yesterday on their day off was amazing. They were all in here watching film and getting ready for knowing the Jaguars as well as they know someone else in their division."'
