Marker Gardener won't be playing soon [5:17 AM]
Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel reports: 'An NFL source said Gardener will miss at least the next month while hoping rest and rehabilitation will alleviate some of the problems being generated by a fragmented disc in his back. Gardener then will be reevaluated to determine whether he can return this season.'

Marker Tom Donahoe's Weekly Bills Update [4:28 PM] reports: Questions:

  • What were your other impressions of Sunday's game?
  • What do you think of Sunday's game with the Dolphins coming off a tough loss to the Jets?
  • What are the Bills doing to help the community celebrate Thanksgiving?
  • What are your personal highs and lows of Thanksgiving football memories?

  • Marker Bills busy on Thanksgiving week [4:22 PM] reports: The Bills will participate in several community relations initiatives today: Food Bank of WNY, Buffalo City Mission, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army and annual banquet for Canisius High School.

Marker Note on JK from Tuesday Morning QB [2:07 PM]
slate reports: Nostalgia Stat: The Bills retired their first-ever jersey, setting aside forever Jim Kelly's No. 12 during a halftime ceremony, then went on to their 7th consecutive home loss. With Kelly as the starter, Buffalo was 74-23 at home.
Sociological indicator: Last year when the Dolphins retired the No. 13 of Dan Marino, whose accomplishments were about the same as Kelly's-better stats, fewer championships, both whiffed the big game-the Miami ceremony was a nationally televised spectacular featuring rock bands, Broadway staging, fireworks, dry-ice clouds, and gorgeous half-naked dancers. For Sunday's ceremony in Buffalo, Kelly simply walked to the center of the field with his wife, daughter, dad, and handicapped son, then spoke briefly about the importance of loyalty to family. Oh football gods, why did you deny this man a Super Bowl ring?

Marker Slo-o-o-o-w starts keep Bills stuck [9:05 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Bills are currently on a five-game non-scoring streak in the first quarter as they head into Sunday's meeting with the Miami Dolphins at Ralph Wilson Stadium.'

Marker Moulds still giving silent treatment [9:05 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"The frustrations he expresses to me are private," Williams said. "He and I will handle that together, and we have to continue to find ways to get him the ball."'

Marker Jill Kelly honored at luncheon [9:04 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Jim Kelly, co-founder with his wife of the Hunter's Hope Foundation, is expected to present her with a March of Dimes Mother of the Year Award during the noon event in the Crowne Plaza Rochester, 70 State St.'

Marker Slow start in games a headache for Bills [5:55 AM]
D and C reports: 'After Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the Bills are being outscored an alarming 62-16 in the first 15 minutes and 66-20 in the first 15 minutes after halftime.'

Marker New long-snapper makes all the plays [5:55 AM]
D and C reports: 'It didn't take long for long-snap specialist Mo Unutoa to make an impact on the Buffalo Bills.'

Marker Dave Wannstedt is sticking with Jay Fiedler for now, but persistent mistakes worry him [5:54 AM]
Miami Herald reports: '"Jay is the starter, and my only comment is we're going to get it squared away and play turnover-free football."'

Marker Nobody's perfect in today's NFL [5:53 AM]
Miami Herald reports: 'Still, it isn't necessarily true Fiedler has to get better because he's in his second year as a starter. Hard truth: some get worse the longer they play. With Fiedler, you take more chances because he's going to keep taking the big swing.'

Marker After strong first half vs. Jets, Smith reverts to familiar result [5:51 AM]
Miami Herald reports: 'Smith had 14 carries for 51 yards in the first half, and Wannstedt thought the early 3-yard runs would later translate to 7-yarders. But Miami's deficit made Smith less of a factor.'

Marker No turnover at quarterback [5:50 AM]
Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel reports: '"No," he said. "Jay is the starter, and I've got confidence that he will get [the turnovers] corrected this week. I'm counting on him, just like everybody else is. I'm expecting it to be corrected."'

Marker Gardener won't need back surgery [5:49 AM]
Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel reports: 'Dolphins defensive tackle Daryl Gardener received good news on his sore back but still likely will miss Sunday's game at Buffalo.'

Marker Wannstedt has Fiedler's back [5:48 AM]
Palm Beach Post reports: 'So now, despite fans screaming for change -- especially after Jay Fiedler's three-interception, one-fumble performance in Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Jets -- Wannstedt is sticking with Fiedler.'

Marker Bills inspire apathy, early exits [1:40 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'While some will gush over Van Pelt's acumen in running the West Coast Offense that so bewildered and ultimately broke Rob Johnson, the Bills provided no evidence Sunday that the final seven games will be much less tedious than the first nine.'

Marker Kelly took us on one hell of a ride [1:38 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'Before, during and following their four-year control of the AFC, Kelly was the Bills. Once the Super Bowls stopped being an annual entitlement, the dynasty slowly declined with him.'

Marker Bills' song remains the same [1:36 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '"We had opportunities...we've just got to come up with the plays."'

Marker Bills' comeback signs premature [1:35 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'Seattle' performance Sunday was hardly perfect. The Seahawks'defense was shredded for 316 passing yards from Alex Van Pelt, a quarterback who hadn't started an NFL game since 1997. Seattle also had to recover an onsides kick in the last two minutes to beat a team that's won just once. But in the NFL, a win is a win.

    Marker Bills' notebook [1:33 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'With a fourth quarter catch, fullback Larry Centers who finished wit 66 receiving yards on the game, now has 6,093 for his career, passing former Bill Ronnie Harmon (6,068). Centers has become the NFL's all-time leader in receiving yards by a running back.'

Marker MMBQ: Focus on the playoffs [12:35 PM]
CNN/SI reports: Peter King on RJ: "I think Rob Johnson (shoulder) will not play football again this year. The Bills' management team of Tom Donahoe and Gregg Williams , after watching Johnson play for half a season, might have otherwise had a tough decision on whether to re-do the quarterback's contract over the long term. But it won't be so tough. Donahoe's a believer."

Marker Bills-Seahawks post-game quotebook [11:07 AM] reports: Quotes from Kelly, Gregg Williams, Peerless Price, Centers, Van Pelt, Holmgren, Hasselbeck and Alexander.

Marker 5th Down: Kelly's Crusade [11:02 AM] reports: Yesterday, the retired wide receiver returned to Orchard Park to watch his former quarterback, Jim Kelly, get inducted onto the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame. Feats like yardage marks and touchdown records are what got Kellys name on the wall. But Lofton, who must have had Plato in his hands, molded the day into something much larger. "Look at a football player", he said, "and you see a narrow strip of a man."

Marker Seahawks first win in Buffalo [10:53 AM] reports: The Hawks take a 23-20 win, their first ever in Buffalo in two appearances, and hand the Bills their fifth-straight loss at home this season, and seventh dating back to last season.

Marker Back in the hunt [10:51 AM]
Tacoma News Tribune reports: 'The Seahawks' front four failed to mount a significant pass rush most of the game, but Michael Sinclair came up big with the game on the line. Sinclair teamed with linebacker Chad Brown to sack Alex Van Pelt, forcing a fourth-quarter fumble that sailed into the arms of defensive tackle Antonio Cochran. The turnover led directly to the clinching field goal.'

Marker Alexander scores winning TD as Seahawks down Buffalo [10:05 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: The Bills (1-8) lost sloppily and are off to their worst start in 16 years. They've also lost seven straight at home -- their longest stretch since dropping eight straight from 1983-84. Van Pelt showed flashes of efficiency in making his first start in four years, finishing 28-for-42 for a career-high 316 yards passing and two TDs.

Marker Loss clouds Kelly's sunny day [9:14 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"We have a critical mistake at the most inopportune time..."'

Marker Bills honor former QB [9:13 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"He was the focus of our team. He was the catalyst. He was great in the clutch."'

Marker Alexander merely good vs. Bills [9:12 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Bills have allowed six running backs to reach the 100-yard barrier this season so limiting the production of the second-year pro out of Alabama was significant.'

Marker This 'Pill' looks good for what's been ailing Bills [9:11 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Van Pelt was far from perfect, but this was the best the offense has looked all year, even better than the San Diego game.'
