Marker Bills tackling problem of Childhood obesity [6:46 AM]
WGRZ-TV reports: 'The team has "adopted" school 89 in Buffalo as part of an "Eat Right and Exercise" program. Each month, members of the organization go to the school and talk with the K-8 students about the importance of healthy eating and getting plenty of exercise.'

Marker Solid Performance Leads to Victory [6:39 AM] reports: 'The offensive line was very impressive, especially since they were down two quality starters. Trey Teague may be the best lineman this team has and Ross Tucker was able to step in and fill that void. Ross started a lot of games for us last year and it's times like this that show why you have those types of guys on your team.'

Marker Flashback: Bills Use Defense to Top Ravens [6:39 AM] reports: 'While Buffalo won the game, 13-10, in all honesty, the Hall of Fame didn't rush in to save anything from the Bills' first and only trip to PSINet, now M&T Bank Stadium. Actually, perhaps it was appropriate that the game was played on Halloween, because both team's offenses were downright scary.'

Marker A Win, Willis and What's Next [2:43 PM]
WOKR-TV reports: 'Yes, I checked with the NFL offices today and victories over the Miami Dolphins still count in the regular league standings.'

Marker A win, finally [12:01 PM]
Wellsville Daily Reporter reports: '"I just said it's been far too long in coming," said Bledsoe. "I wanted to give (Mularkey) the ball about a month and a half ago for the first win, but Mike has been a great head coach through this stretch. I don't think any of us envisioned this scenario where we'd be 0-4 coming into this game. That just was not really on the radar for us."'

Marker Mularkey gets first NFL win [12:01 PM]
The Sports Network reports: '"It's been a long time since we've gotten a win," said linebacker London Fletcher. "A lot of people in Western New York can go have a good week at work now. A lot of guys can sleep easier tonight. But we still have a long way to go to be the type of football team we want to be."'

Marker HS Football "Coach of the Week" - Week 7 [12:00 PM] reports: 'Coach Len Jankiewicz of Lancaster High School has been named the Buffalo Bills high school football "Coach of the Week" for the seventh weekend of the 2004 season (October 16-17).'

Had a long punt of 59 yards today and has 50+ yd. kick in 40 of 53 career games.'

Marker Victory by Bills is a gas for those filling up [8:53 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'He's not stopping there. Agha said the 15-cent discount will be offered during those hours every Monday through Friday after a Bills victory through the end of the season. "I'm losing money but I don't care if it costs me $400 or $800 a week," he said.'

Marker Just another day at the office for Bills' coach [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"I didn't go, "Hey, this is getting easier,' " Mularkey said. "If anything, you have to have a greater focus. It would be easy to take a step back, but you can't, not right now. You need to take a step forward and take what they did (further). We've had a productive quarter, a productive half. If we can keep those things going . . ."'

Marker Mularkey guided by experience of QB coach Wyche [5:03 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"I've leaned on Sam a number of times," Mularkey said Monday. "I can't say I can remember being 0-4, but I can remember situations I was in as a position coach, as a coordinator, as a player, and fortunately I experienced them and have been around some head coaches and saw how they handled the situation and made a difference in the outcome of the season."'

Marker Inside slant [5:02 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'The team's next three games - at Baltimore and home to Arizona and the New York Jets - are against opponents that are a combined 9-6. But they are teams the Bills have to defeat in order to climb back to .500 and give themselves a shot at a playoff berth over the last half of the season.'

Marker Strategy and personnel [5:01 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Rookie coach Mike Mularkey earned a well-deserved game ball for his first NFL win. He had a rough first half, which including some dubious decisions that helped put Buffalo into a 10-7 hole. But he made the right adjustments at halftime and the Bills hammered out a convincing victory by sticking to the run.'

Marker Notes, quotes [5:00 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Bills owner Ralph Wilson winced watching the Bills' lethargic two-point loss to the New York Jets, calling his team "boring," and that he was tired of coach Mike Mularkey's smash-mouth style of football. What did he think after his team ate the final 6:22 of Sunday's 20-13 win over Miami by running the football? "Am I happy with smash-mouth football? Today, yes," said Wilson, who was celebrating his 86th birthday.'

Marker Finally a Win! [4:59 AM]
WIVB-TV reports: 'It’s amazing how different a win feels. Mondays have been brutal for a long time. I go to the gym or the grocery store and people want me to give them answers. But, the questions change. People start to get that crazy feeling. They look at the schedule and ask. Do you think they could roll off a few wins in a row, and get back in the playoff picture?'

Marker Henry Remains The Bills Starter Over McGahee [4:58 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'Mularkey feels Sam Adams on the field tantrum with the coaches that cost him a benching for the second half was just a heat of the moment thing.'

Marker Henry to retain Bills starting role when healthy [4:57 AM]
AP reports: '''Travis will be the starter and Willis will get more playing time as we go,'' coach Mike Mularkey said on Monday. ''I think due to injury, I don't think that's any case to make a change right now. (Henry) has been productive.'''

Marker Bills sign WR Wilson to practice squad [4:56 AM]
AP reports: 'Wilson is an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas who signed with Detroit last April. The Lions released Wilson after he spent the first five weeks of the season on their practice squad.'

Marker McGahee makes the most of his first start [4:55 AM]
Tonawanda News reports: 'It will be up to the coaching staff to keep them both happy. If not, healthy competition could turn into an unhealthy feud. The last things the Bills need right now is a divisive rift worthy of the Flutie-Johnson debacle of a few years ago. If that happens, one of them would have to go. The Bills could be sitting on running back situation that’s either dynamite or a powder keg. It’s up to them to light the right fuse.'

Marker Ask Him Yourself: Mike Mularkey [5:43 PM] reports: 'We'll see how Travis is injury wise but if he is at full strength, 100 percent, then he'll start. They will both get reps, but as far as starting the game Travis will be the guy. He's been productive and missed last week due more so to the injury. We are fortunate to have two effective running backs.'

Marker Ask Him Yourself: Tom Donahoe [5:43 PM] reports: 'Coach Mularkey was hired because we felt he was the best man for the job. His offensive background and his ability to communicate in get along with players was also a part of the reasons why we selected him. He has a very definite idea of how he wants to play offensive football. Some media members have inaccurately labeled it as smash-mouth football, which it really isn't. It is a brand of football where he wants to be physical and have players who are smart and to execute the talents of his players. Even though we have struggled in some of the earlier games you can see elements of Mike's offense and the Bills offense and what we want to do. In the second half of the game against Miami you saw the offense perform at a very efficient level and that's what we expect to continue to develop and to get some consistency with that.'

Marker Bills Sign WR to Practice Squad [5:42 PM] reports: 'The Bills announced today that the team has signed wide receiver George Wilson to its practice squad.'

Marker Adams frustrated by role in Bills defense [5:39 PM]
AP reports: '''He's just frustrated,'' Adams' agent, Angelo Wright, told The Associated Press on Monday. The 11-year veteran and two-time Pro Bowl selection believes that he is not being properly utilized, Wright said. Rather than pressuring the pocket, Adams is mostly asked to simply contain the middle and sometimes even drop back in coverage, not easy for a player who's listed at 335 pounds. ''It's often difficult when a defense doesn't let you exploit your talent,'' Wright said. ''Those guys want to attack. This guy's been winning games for a long time. And he just wants to win.'''

Marker Bills grind out an old-fashioned victory [3:55 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'McGahee's afternoon not only led the Bills to their first win of 2004, it provided some reason to hope for the rest of the season. Thinking about getting anywhere near contention remains several consecutive wins away, but such a possibility is no longer pure fantasy. At least until next week.'

Marker Bills Team Report [1:29 PM]
The Sporting News reports: 'McGahee was impressive in his first start, running 26 times for 111 yards. He hasn't fully regained the explosive burst he had before a major knee injury nearly two years ago, but he is effective because of his physical style. He gains a lot of yards after contact and works hard to finish runs.'

Erie Times News reports: 'HALFTIME: Bills losing. Me drinking.'

Marker Wire aims Most High [12:53 PM]
Carlisle Sentinel reports: 'The main symbol for Wire's line represents progress, which he says means the desire of a person to be better today than he or she was yesterday. Wire includes a personal written explanation of what each symbol means on the hang tag. That way, he says, each garment comes with a little bit of his train of thought.'

Marker Bills, Mularkey get win No. 1 [12:48 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“We had some problems in the first half,” admitted middle linebacker London Fletcher. “But we regrouped at halftime, stepped up, got four sacks and really shut them down.”'

Marker Dolphins find RB in Morris, but not a win [12:47 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'The Dolphins were always seen as a title contender with their premiere back, because they could control the clock and rest their powerful defense. Morris showed glimpses that he can help Miami back to its winning ingredient.'
