Marker Bills scramble for answers to back up EJ [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“My conversation with Jordan was, ‘Hey, listen. I’m happy to see you. I’m happy to meet you. I’m going to give you an opportunity and you have an opportunity to get a position and we’re going to do whatever we can to get you ready for this game and play you.’ ”'

Marker Goodwin’s tweet shows how clueless he is [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Freshmen in college weren’t even born the last time the Bills’ actually won a playoff game, in 1995. They’re part of a younger generation in which the Bills were a punchline, a team they largely ignored after being born and raised in a proud football town that once had lofty standards.'

Marker Marrone heartened by Bills injury report [1:57 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The team’s work in practice and the fact that the squad is in generally good health made Marrone a happy man. “Not a lot of guys on the injury report. There are a lot of guys practicing, a lot of guys playing,” Marrone said. “That’s good this time of year, and we’ll do what we can to make sure we get our guys healthy and ready to go.”'

Marker Finalists for site of a new Bills stadium are likely in Erie County [1:56 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The source, who spoke Tuesday to The Buffalo News on condition of anonymity, declined to identify the locations of the four sites – or what could end up in the final report as just three. But consultants are considering stadium sites that could accommodate a 65,000-seat facility with or without a roof depending on whether the next team owner wants a year-round facility.'

Marker Assemblyman pushes for transparency by group evaluating proposals for new Bills stadium [1:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“We haven’t been able to get any information or update from the New Stadium Working Group,” Kearns said, “and the voters have a right to see its recommendations and communications and know about the possibility of a new stadium. This is important not only to me, but to other elected officials, as well.”'

Marker Jordan Palmer in, Thad Lewis out for Bills [1:54 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Interestingly, it seems as if Palmer - who is the younger brother of Arizona starter and former Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer - is being brought in to serve more as a mentor to Manuel and Tuel than he is to compete for the backup job.'

Marker Bills-Lions game blacked out Thursday [1:53 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Although Thursdays game will not air live, it will be broadcast at 7:30 p.m. Friday on WHAM-TV (Channel 13) and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel.'

Marker Buffalo Bills claim punter Jordan Gay off waivers [1:52 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: 'For the Bills, Gay could provide competition both at punter and as a kickoff specialist, both areas in which Bills coach Doug Marrone has said the team will try to improve. Punter Brian Moorman has had a few rough punts in the preseason.'

Marker Doug Marrone, Jordan Palmer talk about Bills' quarterback situation [1:51 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: 'We’ve given ourselves an opportunity, meaning that we’ve given ourselves an opportunity for what we’ve been watching on tape of everyone for Jordan to come in here and show us what he has. I think that’s something that, obviously, Doug (Whaley) and I have talked about quite a bit.'

Marker Buffalo Bills report 2014 season ticket sales are highest since 2009 [1:50 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: 'Just three years ago, the Bills had the lowest season-ticket sales in recent history with 37,555. The Bills sold 36,354 season tickets back in 2001 but had a string of eight consecutive seasons of selling more than 42,000 season tickets leading up to 2011.'

Marker Cyril Richardson's play has Doug Marrone feeling more at ease with Chris Williams injury [1:49 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: '"There's some things that he showed that I have no doubt, having coached that position before, to say that he's a future starter," Marrone said. "I'm happy about that, but I'm not happy that I feel the way I do about Chris and his availability."'

Marker Buffalo Bills preseason game against Detroit Lions will be blacked out on local TV [1:48 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: 'Bills fans will be able to watch the game on tape delay. It will air at 7 p.m. Friday on WTVH-TV (Syracuse) and WKBW-TV (Buffalo); at 7:30 p.m. Friday on WHAM-TV (Rochester); and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Time Warner Cable Sportschannel. NFL Network will air a tape delay of the game at 7 a.m. on Sunday.'

Marker Buffalo Bills cut Thad Lewis to make room for Jordan Palmer, according to report [1:46 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: '"It's been like that ever since I've been in the NFL," Lewis said Monday. "It's nothing new, but at the same time, it's football. There's always going to be competition. If you're scared of competition, you shouldn't play the spot."'

Marker Lions to see former coach Jim Schwartz from a new angle [1:45 AM]
Detroit News reports: '“It’ll be cool,” Austin said. “I’ll go talk to him. He was always a cool guy to me. It’s going to be different, though, because now instead of seeing all of his schemes and tricks and whatnot in practice, I get to see it in a game.”'

Marker Jordan Palmer joins Bills, raising concerns for Bears [1:44 AM]
Chicago Sun Times reports: '‘‘Snap counts and the stuff we do, some of our tricks, what plays we like,’’ Cutler said. ‘‘But they still have to defend it, so we won’t change much, if anything. Maybe a few tweaks here and there, but we’ll just have to go play football and see how it goes.’’'

Marker Bills' hopes hinge on familiar question: QB [1:43 AM]
AP reports: 'From Alex Van Pelt to Drew Bledsoe and now EJ Manuel, none of the eight quarterbacks who started at least eight games for Buffalo since 2000 has held the job beyond three seasons. And only one, Bledsoe in 2004, led the team to a winning record.'

Marker Bills shuffle backup QBs; Palmer in, Lewis out [1:42 AM]
AP reports: 'Palmer was signed Tuesday, two days after being cut by Chicago, where he lost the backup competition to Jimmy Clausen. In five NFL seasons, Palmer has appeared in just four games and completed 10 of 15 passes for 59 yards and two interceptions.'

Marker Bills' Alonso placed on Reserve/NFI list [1:41 AM]
The Sports Network reports: 'Alonso underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which he suffered earlier this offseason while working out in Oregon. The move was just a formality, as he is expected to miss the entire season.'

The Sports Xchange reports: 'Lewis started five games for the Bills last season and had some decent moments, completing 59.2 percent of his passes for 1,092 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions. But the Bills were unhappy with their quarterback play during the offseason and preseason, particularly in the 27-14 exhibition loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday.'

Marker NFL 2014 Preview: Buffalo Bills [1:38 AM]
Sportsnet reports: 'Notice how many times I’ve used the words “could” or “potential.” That’s why. Because no matter how much improvement the Bills have shown off-season after off-season, they always find a way to be the same old Bills; on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. Also, the team’s future in western New York is a major question mark. Who knows where this team will be after the lease at the Ralph runs out?'

Marker Bills' have a rookie starting at right tackle, but it's not the higher pick [1:37 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'Whaley and Doug Marrone told Henderson he has one chance and one chance only to turn his life around and stay out of trouble. He has done just that and has taken advantage of his opportunity to show things are different, “I’m glad they took the chance and drafted me. Ever since I’ve been here I’ve just been working hard and getting better with the whole team, doing everything I have to do in order to play.”'

Marker Bills place Alonso on Reserve/NFI list [1:36 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'First and foremost, if Alonso has a miraculous recovery, he would be eligible to return for a five week window starting after Week 6. Upon his first day of practice, the Bills would have three weeks to put him on the active roster. If he practices and they don't activate him, the Bills would either have to release him or place him on Injured Reserve.'

Marker Jordan Palmer hoping to stick with Bills [1:35 AM] reports: '“Playing quarterback in the NFL is difficult,” said Palmer. “I don’t think it’s unique, but I was in a similar situation last year. I got called in about eight days before the last (preseason) game and I started the last game. So I’ve been in similar situations, I feel very confident in it.”'

Marker P Jordan Gay claimed by Bills [1:34 AM] reports: 'Gay originally entered the league with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2013. The 6-1, 205-pound Centre College product has also spent time with the New York Giants in addition to the Panthers. Gay, who is a native of Danville, KY, handled kickoff and punt team duties for the Panthers during the preseason.'

Marker Bills release QB Thad Lewis, sign QB Jordan Palmer [1:33 AM] reports: 'His play however, fell on hard times in minicamp and training camp this summer as he struggled with his accuracy and decision making. Lewis’ statistics in his preseason appearances reflected that as he completed just over 51 percent of his passes with two interceptions.'

Marker Kiko Alonso placed on Reserve/NFI list [1:32 AM] reports: 'The designation means he no longer counts toward the team’s roster total, and it’s expected he won’t suit up this season. Alonso tore his ACL during an offseason workout on July 1st and had successful surgery a couple of weeks later.'

Marker Bills’ line sports a new look on the right side [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'That shift puts veteran guard Kraig Urbik in jeopardy of not making the 53-man roster. The starting left guard is Chris Williams. He missed the Tampa game and Monday’s practice with a sore back. But rookie fifth-round pick Cyril Richardson started in Williams’ place Saturday and took the first snaps with the starters again Monday.'

Marker Backup quarterback in the works for Bills; Lions game blacked out [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Palmer entered the NFL in 2007 but only has thrown 10 passes in regular-season action over seven seasons. He has been on an NFL roster for almost four full regular seasons.'

Marker Talented receivers are all ears for coach Moore [1:57 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'When Moore retired from the NFL in 2002, he wasn't sure what he wanted to do, but he thought coaching was a possibility. He spent some time at the high school level, but didn't get any nibbles from colleges or the pros. He held a variety of jobs including some radio and television work, and working as a consultant for Protect Management and Athlete's Performance where he helped train athletes for the NFL Draft, but he knew coaching was his calling, and he just needed a break.'
