Marker Turnover math adds up to wins and losses in NFL [1:17 PM]
Indianapolis Star reports: 'Levy used to post plus-minus trends on the locker room walls in Buffalo. One of his favorites was when teams had a plus-two edge in turnovers in a game, they won about 90 percent of the time. This season, teams with a plus-2 edge in games are 15-2, or 88.2 percent. "If you play well, you win the turnover battle," Levy said. "We'd stress that. But we didn't want to get them too uptight about it, either. You don't want them to be too careful or conservative. They have to be able to execute. So you don't talk too much about them, either."'

Marker Mularkey spots a silver lining [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"We've definitely squandered some opportunities," Mularkey said. "I explained to them that, offensively, it's the inconsistency. We have moved the ball. We do have good drives and then all of a sudden we get down to the red zone. . . . Do we need to score more points? No question about it. But at least we're getting down in the area to put ourselves in that position."'

Marker Drew may need to step aside [5:06 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Bledsoe is the kind of player that even sportswriters root for, and, believe me, that's saying a lot given the depth of cynicism in my profession. Sadly, being a good guy doesn't put any points on the scoreboard.'

Marker Old teammate is a backer [5:05 AM]
Boston Globe reports: 'Johnson doesn't buy into the thinking that this might be Bledsoe's last hurrah. "No way," Johnson said. "Drew has a lot of pride. He's an amazing competitor, a great leader, a prideful person, and his legacy means a lot to him. He wants to be remembered as a premier quarterback in this league. None of us, especially Drew, wants to leave on a down note. If his body lets him play, there's no doubt he has a lot left."'

Marker Wacky return: Furman vs. Pitt [5:04 AM]
Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports: 'Sam "Wicky Wacky" Wyche is comin' to tahn.'

Marker Mularkey Now Realizes Henry Did Score In Oakland [5:03 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'The first order of business should be to fire who ever is in the booth in charge of telling Mularkey when to challenge a call. Mularkey said his coaches told him they didn't get a good enough view if Travis Henry got in on fourth and goal. I have a VCR in my house. This team has a lot of money. Why can't they invest in one.'

Marker Hey, J.P., how's the leg? [5:02 AM]
WGRZ-TV reports: 'As I see it, you can sure put a lot of the blame for the Bills putrid offensive start on #11, but not all of it. Not by a longshot.'

Marker Some Bills fans starting to worry, want answers [9:29 PM]
WGRZ-TV reports: 'Over the last 16 games, the Bills have one of the worst records in football. Their offense is more lackluster than it was in the dark days of the mid-1980s.'

Marker Painful to Watch [9:28 PM]
WOKR-TV reports: 'The good news is that they have two weeks to try to figure out what is going wrong. The bad news is the Patriots have two weeks to come up with a defensive game plan. Will it really take that long?'

Marker Another Agonizing Loss For The Bills [1:24 PM]
Erie Times News reports: 'Well, I’m a sucker for punishment, so let’s go through another epic masterpiece from those football artists known as the Buffalo Bills.'

Marker Game Notes: Bills vs. Raiders [12:53 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Bills Defense: Currently ranked 6th in the NFL (5th rush, 7th pass), 4th in the AFC (1st rush, 4th pass)…has allowed only 156 yards rushing in the first two games combined and has not allowed more than 200 yards net passing in either game.'

Marker HS Football "Coach of the Week" - Week 3 [12:52 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Coach Tim Bergan of Ellicottville Central High School has been named the Buffalo Bills high school football “Coach of the Week” for the third weekend of the 2004 season (Sept. 17-18).'

Marker Bills honor Bergan as top coach [12:48 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'After two games, the Bills’ defense is fourth in the AFC and 6th in the NFL in fewest yards surrendered. It leads the conference in fewest rushing yards surrendered at 78 a game.'

Marker Bledsoe is playing like a confused, gun-shy rookie [12:48 PM]
Lockport Union Sun and Journal reports: 'Am I suggesting the Bills consider benching Bledsoe in place of a younger, faster, more mobile quarterback with less experience and a weaker arm? Absolutely. In two weeks.'

Marker Offense has Mularkey scratching his head in Buffalo [12:47 PM]
The Sports Network reports: '"I'm confident we can get it turned around," Bledsoe said. "I'm confident in our style of offense. We are committed to the running game."'

Marker Bills' offense a throwback [8:52 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Yes, it really has been that bad.'

Marker It's too early to write off Bills' season [8:52 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Jags have produced 22 first downs in two games, eight fewer than the Bills. They've scored 20 points, same number as the Bills. The Jags are 2-0 and luxuriating in possibilities. The Bills are being lathered with barbecue sauce.'

Marker Buffalo singing Bledsoe blues [7:09 AM]
Toronto Star reports: 'The criticism, and the problem, runs deeper than Bledsoe, though. President and GM Tom Donahoe is being accused of failing to address the team's larger personnel problems and new coach Mike Mularkey is being criticized for being too conservative and low risk in his play calling.'

Marker In defense of the offense [5:09 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Despite the coaching staff change and eight months to prepare, the Bills look startlingly similar to the club that finished 6-10 in Gregg Williams' final season. The offense can't score, the defense is vulnerable against the pass because of a meager pass rush, and special teams are erratic.'

Marker Is the Buffalo offense really this bad? [5:09 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'How can a team win when half its games are played on the road where crowd noise is such a huge factor and opponents know all they have to do is stuff the run and blitz Bledsoe with abandon? The Raiders were laughing about how easy a target Bledsoe was. It's become an embarrassment for the Bills.'

Marker Inside slant [5:09 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'The Bills called the dive play over the right guard and tackle even though starting right guard Chris Villarrial was out with a leg injury and even though the Raiders have one of the NFL's largest front sevens, led by Ted Washington and Warren Sapp.'

Marker Strategy and personnel [5:08 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Bills didn't hit enough big plays early to call off the dogs. At least two sacks were blocking mistakes, allowing unblocked heat.'

Marker Notes, quotes [5:07 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Sunday's loss made the Bills 2-11 in their last 13 road games dating back to 2002 when QB Drew Bledsoe came aboard. In those games, Bledsoe has thrown 10 touchdown passes, 17 interceptions, and been sacked 45 times. Buffalo has committed 38 turnovers and collected just seven takeaways (minus-31). It's hard to believe the Bills were once 3-1 under Bledsoe on the road.'

Marker Sad Start For Bills [9:38 PM]
WIVB-TV reports: 'If the Bills won’t give a refund they should at least give their fans a blindfold. It hurts ones eyes to sit through a Bills game and watch this offense. Maybe it wasn’t Kevin Gilbride’s fault after all, this still looks a lot like the anemic, unproductive, and un-watchable offense we saw in 2003.'

Marker Bledsoe-led Bills offense still sputtering [5:34 PM]
AP reports: 'How bad was it? Bills punter Brian Moorman's 24-yard completion on a fake punt accounted for more than a third of Buffalo's 61 yards net offense in the first half.'

Marker Buffalo tests even the most patient of fans [4:09 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'The truly troubling thing here was the inability for a team that's emphasized running the ball since the day Mularkey arrived to carve out a single yard when it needed it most. Buffalo's renovated offensive line got absolutely no push and Travis Henry stumbled and came up short.'

Marker Buffalo Closer than Most Think [12:52 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Penalties are committed at crucial times in games, passes are dropped, and big plays are given up to the opposition.'

Marker Bills Team Report [12:51 PM]
The Sporting News reports: 'After allowing one sack in Week 1, the team allowed seven against the Raiders. Just like last season, when the Bills allowed an NFL-high 51 sacks, they are struggling to pick up blitzes and adjust to stunts. QB Drew Bledsoe is getting rid of the ball more quickly, but he still stands in the pocket too long.'

Marker It’s overtime for Bledsoe to be blamed [12:43 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'In short, Buffalo is looking at only its second 0-4 start in the past 19 years. So much for this season’s optimism.'

Marker Bills buckle under the pressure [9:05 AM]
Sacramento Bee reports: '"What this game came down to is we didn't get the job done offensively," an obviously irritated Bledsoe said. "I didn't throw it well enough, we didn't block well enough, we didn't run well enough and didn't catch the ball well enough."'
