Marker Bills urge NFL to fine Lewis for hit on Johnson [10:07 PM]
AP reports: 'While still experiencing pain and stiffness a day later, Johnson was confident he wouldn't miss any playing time as the Bills enter their bye week. They are off until Oct. 18, when they play at Jacksonville.'

Marker A good news, bad news day for the Bills [2:34 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'First the good news. The Buffalo Bills scored 36 points on Sunday afternoon ... the most in a home game since 1998. Now the bad news. It wasn't enough.'

Marker Bills charge Lewis with late hit on Johnson [2:34 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '"We were upset ... that was a cheap shot," said Bills rookie running back Travis Henry. "He was sliding and the guy still just hit him ... he got caught in an awkward situation and he got hit - that was wrong."'

Marker Henry was part of the script for the Bills [2:32 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'Rookie running back Travis Henry didn't start the game, giving way to Sammy Morris. "We scripted the beginning of the game on Wednesday and wanted to open in the no-huddle," said coach Gregg Williams. "Sammy's in our no-huddle package, Travis isn't."'

Marker Jets force 5 turnovers, then hold on [2:29 PM]
Asbury Park Press/Home News Tribune reports: 'The Jets won this game with their big-play start.'

Marker Lewis turned loose to shake up the defense [2:28 PM]
Asbury Park Press/Home News Tribune reports: '"We wanted to put a little more heat on this week," Cottrell said after his happy homecoming to western New York, where he orchestrated Buffalo's defense the last three years. "I told Mo we were really going to call his number today. I wanted a good response and he gave it to us."'

Marker Jets notes [2:28 PM]
Asbury Park Press/Home News Tribune reports: '10 -- Number of his 22 career starts that Bills quarterback Rob Johnson has not finished.'

Marker Don't be fooled by score; Bills stunk out The Ralph [2:27 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'If you just saw the score and didn't actually watch the New York Jets' 42-36 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, you'd probably figure it was a very competitive game. Maybe even an exciting shootout. Wrong and wrong.'

Marker Bills slow start could boost Sabres ticket sales [11:53 AM]
Business First of Buffalo reports: 'Can there be a benefit to the Bills 0-3 start? Though no one involved would ever publicly admit it, there is a good chance the Sabres can gain some fans.'

Marker Bills Stumble to Defeat for the Ages [11:50 AM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'Buffalo's season of football futility reached historic depths Sunday during the New York Jets' deceptively close 42-36 win over the Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Jets tied the the 26-year-old record for points scored by a Buffalo opponent in a non-strike game played in Orchard Park. Mo Lewis' 15-yard fumble return, New York's second defensive touchdown, with 1:46 left in the third quarter equalled a standard set by the Baltimore Colts during a 42-35 win in 1975. The Indianapolis version of the Colts, filled with picket-line crossers, ran up a 47-6 win during the 1987 player's strike.'

Marker 5th Down: Duty to perform [9:44 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Bryce Fisher heard it first while driving to the stadium. When he arrived at the Buffalo Bills' training complex around 1:30 Sunday afternoon, he talked to a few other teammates who had heard the same thing on their radios: Two days shy of four weeks after the World Trade Center and Pentagon bombings, the United States had fired back. Cruise missiles were soaring toward Afghanistan. An act of war had been reciprocated, with the promise of more to come.'

Marker Turnovers cost Bills in loss to Jets [9:42 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Offensively, Buffalo turned in its best performance of the season with 36 points, as Alex Van Pelt came in for an injured Rob Johnson and completed 21 of 37 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson suffered a back strain and a pinched nerve as he was hit in the back of the head by Lewis late in the first quarter and did not return.'

Marker Bills can't 'turnover' a new leaf [9:09 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'They lost big for a fourth straight week but found a new way to do it against the New York Jets. They inflicted most of the damage to themselves.'

Marker Bills' receivers play catch-up [9:09 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Overall, the Bills passing game had 325 yards through the air. Although much of the yardage came late in a 42-36 loss to the New York Jets, it was what the Bills had in mind when they installed the West Coast offense.'

Marker Dominant Lewis mows down Bills [9:08 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Lewis was ready for the Bills. They weren't ready for Lewis.'

Marker Lights are going out on the Bad News Bills [9:07 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'That's the sort of year it's become. Dark. Dank. Depressing. Seasoned Buffalo Bills fans can feel it in their bones - a troubling chill, beckoning from back in the '80s. You wanted to believe in this team, but there is no mistaking it now. The Bills are very bad, as bad as they've been in a generation.'

Marker If it weren't for bad luck, Johnson wouldn't have any [9:07 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Whether Johnson belongs here is no longer a relevant topic; here he is, like it or not. More worrisome is whether he will leave here intact. How many times can his head be scrambled before the damage becomes enduring? Will every morning of his later years begin with the joints of his battered body screaming in defiance? And, while we're at it, let's also consider whether there has been a Bill more prone, no, not to injury, but to widespread misfortune.'

Marker Henry cracks 100-yard barrier [9:06 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Even though the Buffalo Bills were playing catch-up throughout their 42-36 loss to the New York Jets Sunday, Henry was able to do some damage with 113 yards on 19 carries.'

Marker Monday Billboard [9:05 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'It's been a long time since Western New York has watched a team this poor...'.

Marker Among fans, fliers here, no surprise [9:04 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Few in the sellout crowd said they feared for their safety at the game, and that included some who have seen firsthand the toll of terror in New York.'

Marker It's fourth down for Bills [7:16 AM]
D and C reports: 'The Jumbotron showed that the Bills produced 36 points. That was one more point than they had scored in their previous three games combined. However, the Jumbotron also revealed that the New York Jets had scored 42 points. News flash: Thirty-six beats 42 in golf, not in football.'

Marker Heart isn't enough right now [7:16 AM]
D and C reports: 'Gregg Williams said it all when he commented after the game that his team isn't good enough to win when it spots an opponent 14 points before he's had time to strap on his headset. Come to think of it, his team, as currently constituted, isn't good enough to win when the game starts 0-0.'

Marker Bills don't lack effort or hustle, just some talent [7:15 AM]
D and C reports: 'While the game showcased Buffalo's perseverance -- and some promising signs out of rookie coach Gregg Williams and his staff -- the game wasn't as close as the final score or the statistics said it was.'

Marker Johnson can't be faulted for his latest injury [7:14 AM]
D and C reports: 'It was a cheap shot, a dirty play, a WWF pile driver, and though the zebras didn't toss a flag, the commissioner's office would be wise to review the tapes and lighten Lewis' wallet this week.'

Marker Report card [7:13 AM]
D and C reports: 'Eric Moulds and Peerless Price do play for this team. They combined for nine catches and 210 yards with Moulds scoring on a 46-yard play and Price a 70-yarder. Each dropped passes, however, to pull down the grade.'

Marker Fans' minds on more than just football [7:13 AM]
D and C reports: '"Now, that we've taken military action against the terrorists, you have to be concerned about what steps they will take to retaliate. You have to think that a football stadium with this many people would be a prime target. But what are you going to do? We've got tickets, we're here, so we're going."'

Marker Bills a writeoff [7:12 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: 'They were beaten for the fourth consecutive time yesterday, 42-36, by a shaky New York Jets team. It should be noted that the game was not that close. Six points suggests the Bills were competitive. In fact, they were never a serious threat. They flirted with it a couple of times, but their rallies were a mirage.'

Marker Jets Turn Defense Into Points [7:11 AM]
New York Times reports: 'It can be a sign of a maturing team when it can kick a bad team when it is down. And, more importantly, a sign that a struggling team might have found its footing is when it does not sink to the level of an even worse team. If that is the case, the Jets made progress today with a 42-36 victory over the inept Buffalo Bills.'

Marker Jets Were Thinking 'About All the Troops' [7:10 AM]
New York Times reports: '"I saw that," Jets Coach Herman Edwards said, alluding to the war news after his team's 42-36 victory. "You think about all the troops over there who are fighting for us so that we can stand here. Your prayers are with them."'
