Marker Kicking competition is over for Bills as team cuts rookie Austin Rehkow [4:01 PM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Rookie undrafted free agent Austin Rehkow was released, which makes it seem like the team will go into the 2017 season with Stephen Hauschka at kicker and Colton Schmidt at punter. Rehkow handled both duties in training camp, but both Hauschka and Schmidt have performed well this summer.'

Marker Jordan Matthews takes individual drills at the start of Sunday's Bills practice [4:01 PM]
Buffalo News reports: '"Just so we're ready," McDermott said. "We're again, cautiously optimistic about Cordy. Having said that, we want to make sure we're moving in a direction that if we need to ... execute with Dion on the left side, we're able to do that as well. Just being cautious and having a well-thought out plan really with respect to the contingency part of it."'

Marker What They Said: Bills coach Sean McDermott at Sunday's practice [4:00 PM]
Buffalo News reports: 'We’re just looking at things. Like I mentioned, to have a plan in place and to continue to look at things. We’re going to go, and move in that direction a little bit more today, just so we’re ready. Again, we’re cautiously optimistic about Cordy [Glenn" target="_blank">; Having said that, we want to make sure we’re moving in a direction that if we need to [put" target="_blank"> Dion on the left side, we’re ready to do that as well.'

Marker Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews plans to be ready for season opener [3:56 PM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: '"As far as this type of injury, it's kind of up in the air," Matthews said. "Most injuries, most broken bones you already know the timetable. You can even Google that stuff and find it. With a chest injury like this, it's kind of more up in the air. They have to gauge it. It's more pain management than anything. When they feel like I'm at a good place where I can go out there and perform but also not put myself at risk of hurting anything else or have the same injury, then they'll feel comfortable throwing me back out there."

Marker What Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor is doing to jell with WR Jordan Matthews [3:55 PM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: '"Just talking through a lot of things," Taylor said after the Bills' preseason game against the Eagles. "It's funny you say that, because even the first practice where he got hurt, I was able to talk him through a couple of things that happened and he was able to get a practice rep and we were able to connect on that. As long as we continue to keep talking through schemes. Last week was a short week. This week is more of a game-like week, so we can actually talk through things and get on the same page."'

Marker How Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott feels about national anthem protests [3:53 PM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: '"I did a lot of listening yesterday. That was very healthy. We had a good conversation this morning as a team about it. I thought it was a healthy meeting and conversation. I think that again the key word in all of this is respect. Respect the situation, respect the communication end of things moving forward and respect the process of what's going on in this country and this world."'

Marker Buffalo Bills sign TE Rory Anderson, S Adrian McDonald [3:52 PM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: 'Anderson was a former seventh round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2015 NFL draft. The tight end played for South Carolina in college and recorded 61 receptions for 954 yards and nine touchdowns with the Gamecocks. He spent one season with the 49ers before joining the Chicago Bears' practice squad in 2016. He was placed on the Bears' practice squad/injured list last October.'

Marker Bills "cautiously optimistic" for Glenn's return [3:47 PM]
WGR-AM reports: 'When asked if Streater may require surgery, McDermott said the team is still weighing their options.'

Marker Joe B: 5 takeaways from Buffalo Bills practice (8/20/17) [3:46 PM]
WKBW-TV reports: 'The chip fracture in his sternum kept him on the sidelines through the past week, but head coach Sean McDermott made it known that Matthews was “improving.” And then, on the practice field on Sunday, Matthews had his helmet on and was taking part in some individual drills — although he didn’t have any shoulder pads on. And then after practice, Matthews said that it’s a pain tolerance thing, and while they aren’t rushing him to get on the field for a preseason game, he remains “extremely confident” that he’ll be able to play in Week One of the regular season.'

Marker Dawkins gets more work at left tackle [3:41 PM] reports: '“To have a plan in place and to continue to look at things, we’re going to go and move in that direction a little bit more just so we’re ready,” McDermott confirmed. “We’re cautiously optimistic about Cordy. Having said that we want to make sure we’re moving in a direction that if we need to execute with Dion on the left side we’re ready to do that.”'

Marker Bills sign TE Anderson, S McDonald [3:41 PM] reports: 'To make room for Anderson and McDonald on the roster, Buffalo released K/P Austin Rehkow and waived/injured TE Jason Croom.'

Marker Bills Today: Bills offense still working on timing [3:40 PM] reports: '“It’s different when it’s routes against air and everything is laid out for you,” said Jones. “When you get press coverage, sometimes it throws timing off, and sometimes it’s obviously a different look. But, that’s what the preseasons is for. You just have to keep playing and keep building, and that stuff is going to come.”'

Marker Bills backup O-lineman Groy a Secret Superstar, and there's data to prove it [1:59 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“I watched what he did last year on the field, and when Eric went down how he stepped in and did a nice job,” said McDermott. “He has the versatility of playing the center position and also the guard position; extremely intelligent individual, adds value in that regard, makes a lot of the calls for us. I feel real good about our depth at that position.”'

Marker Buffalo Bills win AFC East over Patriots in CBS Sports' Madden 18 simulation [1:58 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: '"The Bills-Patriots thing is just impossible to understand. If I told you the Bills won 11 games and the Patriots didn't win the division, you would assume both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo were kidnapped by a crazed Rex Ryan and held hostage for months somewhere in Bristol. Nope. Brady threw for 5,355 yards and 34 touchdowns while completing 75 percent of his passes. Even wilder? Tyrod Taylor had 2,069 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. Nate Peterman had 2,051 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions."'

Marker Buffalo Bills 53-man roster projection 2017: Post-Eagles preseason game [1:57 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: 'Yates' job isn't necessarily safe as Peterman looks like the clear-cut favorite for the Bills' No. 2 quarterback job, but he sticks for now as he brings knowledge of the offense to the quarterback room.'

Marker Never bet against Bills wide receiver Rod Streater [1:56 AM]
Burlington County Times reports: '“I am blessed,” Streater said. “God has been doing great things in my life. Through all the ups and downs, He has allowed me to be able to make plays and contribute to the team. I’m here to win a Super Bowl.”'

Marker Harrisburg native LeSean McCoy still spry, confident while approaching career milestones [1:55 AM]
Harrisburg Patriot News reports: '"I think the biggest number that you want to get is a ring," McCoy said. "For this team, we haven't been to the playoffs in quite some time, so hopefully we get that established, we accomplish that. If I get lucky and get a ring, man, I'll start thinking about the numbers. But it's always in the back of my mind. I use that to kind of motivate me, if it's a ring or chasing different yardage. It keeps me motivated."'

Marker The long and Shorts of making Bills' roster for ex-Red Lion star [1:54 AM]
Wilmington News Journal reports: 'Shorts, a rookie undrafted free agent, wasn't despondent, however. He had a large rooting section of more than 20 friends and family members cheering him on. He also had several close friends on the Eagles who met him at midfield after the game to catch up.'

Marker McDermott distressed by penalties, offensive problems [1:53 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: '"You want to be able to say it's all one area, and that's not the case," McDermott said. "There is some discipline in there, there's concentration, there's playing aggressive without hesitation so that we stay in good position, so we're not in chase mode. There's different buckets, if you will, that are factoring into the penalties, all of which are unacceptable. We need to continue to work at that, I am concerned about it, and we're going to look into bringing officials into practice, to help us in that effort. We've got to get it corrected."

Marker Former Eagles' draft pick Jordan Poyer excited for opportunity with Bills [1:52 AM]
CSN Philadelphia reports: '"It's a great situation for me with Sean and Leslie," Poyer said. "Sean coaches us every day, helps us get better, helps get the whole football team better. I learn something from him every day."'

Marker Bills Today: Still time for Gaines to make a move [1:51 AM] reports: '“What I liked about his play and it really showed up on the interception was he was in great position,” said McDermott. “That was clinic tape for all of our players, all the corners on this roster to understand when you’re in that type of position good things happen. He played within the system and made a big time play for us, so that was good to see. He did some other good things in the game in terms of run support and what not. So, it was good to see him get some good action and really acclimate himself to our system.”'

Marker Bills not ready to go to their 'contingency plan' at left tackle [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"There’s a lot of factors that came into play in terms of the pressure on our quarterbacks last night," McDermott said Friday. "Technique is obviously one thing, beating the man in front of you, the timing of the offense has to work hand-in-hand with the protection, the route development, the quarterback getting the ball out in time. All those things work together in terms of protection, in terms of execution. We didn’t do a good job of that enough last night."'

Marker Five free agents Bills could consider if LT Cordy Glenn's injury situation doesn't improve [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Branden Albert: A two-time Pro Bowler, Albert retired from the Jacksonville Jaguars last month, only to announced shortly thereafter he had a change of heart and wanted to keep playing. That didn't happen with the Jaguars, who released him a week ago. Albert's price tag could be a sticking point, but he would give the Bills an experienced option who knows the AFC East after spending the last three years. Would Albert be more open to joining the Bills as a Rochester native?'

Marker Bills notebook: Sean McDermott sticking with Tyrod Taylor, a plan to address penalties, run defense [1:57 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Taylor struggled mightily in the Bills' loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, going 8 of 18 for 53 yards and two interceptions. After the game, McDermott seemed to leave the door open for a quarterback change when he said "we're always going to evaluate everything and that goes for every position including the quarterback position. We're going to evaluate the film. I’m going to evaluate the job I did and then we evaluate the job that each of us and continue to get better as a unit."'

Marker Updated Bills 53-man roster projection following Week Two of preseason [1:56 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'No, there is no quarterback controversy. That idea is ridiculous. As bad as Taylor was against the Eagles, the Bills aren't considering a change – and that's the right move. Peterman made some nice throws for the second straight game, but is completing barely better than 50 percent of his passes in the preseason. He's done enough to earn the promotion to the second team, but it's crazy to think he's challenging Taylor right now.'

Marker Report: Former Bills kicker Carpenter to get shot with Jaguars [1:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Carpenter's biggest struggles came in the past two years when extra points increased in distance from 23 to 33 yards. He missed five last season and six in 2015 after missing only one in 64 tries his first two years in Buffalo.'

Marker Bills-Eagles rating is strong, but a drop from preseason opener [1:54 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Bills' 20-16 road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that ended with the last play of the game had a strong 18.6 rating on WKBW-TV (Channel 7). That was seven percent lower than the 20.0 rating for the Bills preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings at New Era Field.'

Marker Vic Carucci's 3 Bills thoughts: Peterman's performance, poor penalties and too much Shady [1:53 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Taylor was awful. He threw two interceptions, the first on a tipped pass that never should have left his hand, and the second to Ronald Darby, of all people. Darby is one of the primary symbols of out-with-the-old-in-with-the-new at One Bills Drive. Taylor easily could have thrown a another pick to his former teammate. More than a few of his passes were delivered late, others were late and/or wildly off-target.'

Marker Bills' McDermott says he hasn't lost faith in Tyrod Taylor at QB [1:52 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“I have all the confidence in the world in Tyrod. By no means, was that meant to come across that way, Tyrod’s going to start for us this week and I look forward to him getting back on track,’’ McDermott said. “There were plays that he wanted back from last night among other players as well. That said, there were good moments in the game. We continue to evolve as an offense, that’s the second game.’’'

Marker Buffalo Bills' Brandon Reilly honors former teammate Sam Foltz after touchdown [1:51 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: 'Foltz, Reilly's teammate on the Cornhuskers for three seasons, died in a car accident last year in July.'
