Marker Packers trade Bowens to Bills for tight end [5:38 AM]
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports: '"He's just not quite big enough to play every snap but Buffalo is using Tennessee's system and they can get by with a little lighter guys," Hatley said. "I think David will do a nice job for them. He's got pass rush, a good motor and for a big guy he can play on special teams, which is hard to find."'

Marker Another tough read for Rob [5:33 AM]
D and C reports: '"They made me do some stupid stuff," he said. "It's kind of like they suggest something that's really bad, like sitting in my bed. And then they get me to sit in the hot tub, so that's not as bad as sitting in my bed."'

Marker Bills deal for defensive end [5:32 AM]
D and C reports: '"They called us first," said Donahoe. "They've had some problems with the health of their tight ends so they came to Edinboro to watch the scrimmage and we had some conversations with them after the scrimmage."'

Marker Many arms, little experience [5:32 AM]
D and C reports: 'Now you know why the Buffalo Bills have placed a priority on keeping Rob Johnson healthy. If Johnson is hurt again, the team could be in very serious trouble, because their quarterback depth chart isn't very deep.'

Marker Christie wants no part in kicking off [5:31 AM]
D and C reports: '"This is my 12th year in the NFL, I don't need to be kicking off if I don't have to. These guys are 10 years younger, so they should be able to kick off and I'm all for that."'

AP reports: 'The Bills, meanwhile, sent backup tight end Bobby Collins to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for defensive end David Bowens. In two years with the Bills, Collins caught 15 passes for 196 yards. Bowens has 48 tackles since entering the NFL with Denver in 1999.'

Marker Bills acquire DE David Bowens in trade [4:27 PM]

Marker Bills fans enjoy night life [9:13 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'More than 6,000 people piled into St. John Fisher College as the Bills continued training camp Monday. The players signed autographs for 25 minutes before holding a two-hour practice session, and the huge crowd was yet another example of how much the area has embraced the "Late Night with the Bills" setting.'

Marker Mind set [9:12 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Beebe suffered six severe concussions during a National Football League career during which he made six trips to the Super Bowl, four of them with the Buffalo Bills. Additionally, he estimates that two or three times a game his thought process and awareness were scrambled by collisions that jarred his brain against his skull.'

Marker Camp still a hot ticket [5:38 AM]
D and C reports: 'Compared to a year ago when the Bills relocated their camp from Fredonia to Rochester in order to grow their fan and business base, attendance is down by an average of 1,182 per day for the first six days of full-team workouts.'

Marker Lombardi taught tough love [5:37 AM]
D and C reports: '"If Gregg wins early, it will make him stronger because this style, I know, doesn't work well when you're losing. It gets old real quick."'

Marker Fisher finding his defensive niche [9:00 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Fisher saw time with both the first and second team defense, as well as the dime unit as a pass rusher. For a team in need of defensive-line depth - they've lost starters Bruce Smith, Marcellus Wiley and Ted Washington over the last two years - Fisher helped himself.'

Marker Chuck Knox - next coach headed to HoF? [7:39 AM]
ESPN reports: Everywhere he went, a playoff berth soon followed. Was he imaginative or an innovator? Geez, his old nickname, "Ground Chuck," screams for a negative response to that one. Knox is the sixth-winningest coach in league history and all five of the guys in front of him have their likenesses in bronze here.

Marker Kelly believes Bills can win with Johnson [5:34 AM]
D and C reports: '"I'll tell you what. They don't come much tougher than Rob. He got the hell knocked out of him a bunch of times last season and he still got up. I just hope he can throw that ball away when he has to, and save that body, because we need him."'

Marker Bills can capitalize on flap [5:32 AM]
D and C reports: 'Could the Buffalo Bills of all teams benefit from a quarterback controversy in their season-opener Sept. 9 against visiting New Orleans? Saints Coach Jim Haslett says his team's starting QB job is up for grabs between Jeff Blake and Aaron Brooks.'

Marker It all started here for Levy [11:46 AM]
Cedar Springs Gazette reports: 'Eastern Iowa should be proud to call this Hall of Famer one of its own.'

Marker Simply Marv-elous [9:27 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'From Canton to Western New York to all the pockets of transplanted Buffalonians around the country, Levy's Hall of Fame induction Saturday was a celebration of Bills fandom and the man who led the team to its golden era.'

Marker Levy notes importance of steps along the way [9:26 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'His goal was to get his team to prepare the best it could each day, to get the players to get the most out of themselves, to leave everything they had out on the field. If they did all those things, there's a good chance winning would result.'

Marker For the record: Text of Marv Levy's acceptance speech [9:25 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"To know the game is great. To play the game is greater. But to love the game is the greatest of them all."'

Marker Bills still not passing the protection test [9:24 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'For the Bills, Saturday's gathering against the Cleveland Browns bared that the running game is making progress and the defense is solid, but the pass protection, which allowed 11 "sacks" (defenders touched but were not allowed to tackle the quarterbacks), needs work. The outcome was a very ambiguous 30-12 Bills loss, but the score was secondary. The primary reason for the scrimmage at Sox Harrison Stadium was evaluation.'

Marker Williams shows Lombardi's toughness; does he have his touch? [9:23 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The point of this story? It's that it isn't clear whether Gregg Williams knows when to play 'em and when hold 'em.'

Marker Brown's ejection leaves Bills feeling blue [9:21 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Brown and Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Gerard Warren were ejected for fighting late in the controlled scrimmage at Edinboro University, and Brown's loss was felt immediately. Brown was replaced by rookie tackle Marques Sullivan and he and lineman Robert Hicks had a difficult time keeping the Browns' defenders away from quarterback Rob Johnson.'

Marker Levy carved greatness with sharp intellect [8:30 AM]
Canton Repository reports: 'Perhaps better than any, Marv Levy typifies what a Hall of Famer is. The former head coach of the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs doesn't just break the stereotype of dumb jocks. He shatters it with a set of encyclopedias.'

Marker Levy inducted into Hall [7:32 AM]
Chicago Tribune reports: '"It's been a long trip from the corner of 71st and Stony Island to Canton, Ohio. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Every step has been a joyous journey accompanied by remarkable companions."'

Marker Warren, Brown ejected after tussle [6:22 AM]
Erie Times News reports: 'The melee didn't sit well with the first-year head coaches, Gregg Williams of the Bills and Butch Davis of the Browns. "We need to improve the discipline aspect,'' said Williams, who was an assistant with the Tennessee Titans before replacing Wade Phillips in Buffalo this season.'

Marker Four-year Super Bowl run makes for many memories [6:13 AM]
Canton Repository reports: '"There seems to be an appreciation in the difficulty of going back to the Super Bowl and what those teams accomplished to get there," Levy said.'

Marker Spielman, other former players show respect for Class of 2001 enshrinees [6:12 AM]
Canton Repository reports: 'I hold Marv Levy in the highest respect. His consistency as a person ... he is a guy I've not known a long time, but it's felt like I've known him my whole life...He treated his players like professionals, and he knew what to expect from us. In turn, we knew what we would get from him."'
