Marker Reviews poor on opener [5:14 AM]
Boston Herald reports: 'QUARTERBACK -- F-minus. Bad! Bad! Very bad!'

Marker Law: Let gones be bygones [5:13 AM]
Providence Journal reports: '"He got something off his back by proving that he can go out there and he's still the same player he's always been and even better," Law said. "If you put anybody in the right situation, they can make plays. Lawyer's one of those types of guys. He proved to everyone that he has not lost a step. He makes plays. Everyone will have a down year. Hall of Famers have down years."'

Marker Patriots Seek To Put Loss, Milloy Behind [5:12 AM]
Hartford Courant reports: 'But Law agreed with his teammates that it was foolish to believe that Milloy joining the Bills led to the Patriots' loss. "It was a distraction early in the [previous] week," Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour said. "But it had nothing to do with [losing] 31-0. People got to come, people got to go. That's a part of life. You're still a professional athlete. If someone lets that affect them, that's their fault."'

Marker Milloy left hole in heart of secondary [5:11 AM]
Metro West Daily News reports: 'Truth is, the Pats may go 15-1, 1-15 or 8-8, and we'll never know what the events of Sept. 2 had to do with any of it. Milloy may be a big part of the Bills winning the division. Or we may find out he's lost a step, that his overall game has slipped, which the Pats hinted at. Six, eight, 10 weeks from now, with a lot of football played, we'll know a lot more about the Patriots and Bills, and the true meaning of Lawyer Milloy being up there instead of down here. In the meantime, only this matters. Bills 1-0, Pats 0-1.'

Marker Perhaps Patriots lost more than Bills gained [5:10 AM]
Woonsocket Call reports: 'It’s impossible to conclude that everything that went wrong against the Bills can be traced directly back to Tuesday when Belichick cut Milloy, though everyone has the right to make an educated guess. It is, however, entirely possible that the Bills were simply a better-prepared team. Or perhaps they’re just the better team.'

Marker Jags haven't found ticket to fans' hearts [5:08 AM]
Florida Times Union reports: 'Two days before the NFL blackout deadline, there are still 9,871 tickets to be sold to avoid the first television blackout of a home opener.'

Marker Bills Make Practice Squad Moves [5:07 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Doman was drafted by San Francisco in the fifth round of the 2002 Draft out of BYU and was the 49ers third quarterback for every game last season. He was in the Niners 2003 training camp but was released prior to the start of the regular season.'

Marker Patriots-Bills Game Notes [5:06 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'The 31-point margin of victory tied the 12th largest in team history and was Buffalo’s largest since 10/30/94 when the Bills defeated the Chiefs, 44-10.'

Marker Van Miller To Retire As Radio Play-By-Play Man [5:05 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: '"The Houston comeback game will never be duplicated," said Miller. Quite possibly, neither will Van Miller.'

Marker The Day After: Gregg Williams Comments [5:04 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: '"I have the same attitude today as I had yesterday. It was a nice win but it's only week 1 and the first one. We've got a lot to work on."'

Marker Inside slant [5:03 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: '"Well, I'll tell you, it's better than the stock market," team owner Ralph Wilson said of his hefty investment in his defense.'

Marker Strategy and personnel [5:02 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Last year the Bills tied a team futility mark with just 10 interceptions. Sunday they picked off four Tom Brady passes and Sam Adams, the hulking defensive tackle, returned one 37 yards for a touchdown.'

Marker Notes, quotes, anecdotes [5:01 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'FB Sam Gash was at his bruising best. It's hard to believe New England ever let him get away in 1997 after he had played six years there. He is without question the best blocking back in the league and he will make a big difference in the Bills' running game. He led Travis Henry across the goal line on Henry's first-quarter 1-yard TD plunge, and spent all day smashing into Patriots.'

Marker One less genius? [9:52 PM]
WGRZ-TV reports: 'In fact, if you ask Brady, he'll tell you the real "genius" is new Bills Assistant Head Coach Dick LeBeau, whose assortment of blitzes and coverages confounded the Pats offense. An up the gut blitz from middle linebacker London Fletcher disrupted Brady on the throw that went into the waiting mitts of Sam Adams, and Adams provided the sight of the day by rumbling 37 yards for a touchdown.'

Marker Newest Bill helps Buffalo form winning strategy [9:45 PM]
Lawrence Eagle Tribune reports: '"He did help. Most of what he did tell us we kind of felt we knew, but we got confirmation from him on those things. He did give us little tips as to how they would try and play certain things."'

Marker Heat is on Belichick to get team back on track [9:43 PM]
Lawrence Eagle Tribune reports: 'Losing a football game, albeit harshly, to a good and emotional Buffalo Bills team is not a crime. But losing a potentially great football team, in early September, would.'

Marker Milloy's gone, and Pats must get over it now [9:41 PM]
Lawrence Eagle Tribune reports: 'With the 73,262 here in attendance and millions watching nationally, Law stomped, pouted and screamed like a 3-year-old denied a hug. New England was nowhere near ready for this. Even the opposition knew it.'

Marker Linebackers, Washington let Patriots down on run [9:40 PM]
Lawrence Eagle Tribune reports: 'Linebackers Tedy Bruschi (5 tackles) and Ted Johnson (6 tackles) didn't stuff the run up tight, nor did Mike Vrabel on the outside. In addition, 375-pound Ted Washington was a nonfactor, getting in on just three hits all day.'

Marker Patriots fought Lawyer, Lawyer won [9:23 PM]
AP reports: '''It's not something that we wanted to do and it certainly wasn't the timing we were looking for but it was, unfortunately, the way it came down,'' Belichick said. ''It wasn't scripted to happen that way, no. (But) I have to look in the mirror and look at myself and I know that we did everything organizationally that we could do and it didn't work out.'''

Marker Bills add QB Doman to practice squad [9:21 PM]
AP reports: 'Coach Gregg Williams was impressed with Doman's mobility from his appearances with the 49ers this past preseason. ''He can make some plays out of nothing because he does have very good feet,'' said Williams. ''And as soon as he can acclimate himself to our system, we'll see about moving him up.'''

Marker Spikes, Bills low-key after big victory [9:20 PM]
AP reports: '''A good testament for us right now is how they handled it yesterday in the locker room,'' said Williams. ''That's just how they are and how they've been in the meetings today. ... Nice win, but it's only Week 1.'''

Marker NFL will look into Milloy tampering allegation [4:25 PM]
AP reports: '``It sounds like there may be some things that weren't totally above board,'' New England coach Bill Belichick said Monday.'

Marker A super opener for the Bills [4:20 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'To be sure, last season, the Bills were 28th in the NFL in giveaway/takeaway ratio at minus-12. But against the Pats, they were plus-2 and their four interceptions were 40 percent of the 10 they totaled all of last season.'

Marker Patriots numb after stunning loss [4:19 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“I think we were ready to play,” Brady said, “but they were playing at a different speed.”'

Marker Sam Adams again part of New England history [4:18 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'It was the first interception return for a touchdown by a Buffalo defensive lineman since Pat Toomay went 34 yards in the 1975 season opener against the Jets.'

Marker Bills get quick return on moves [4:16 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'This is probably what Tom Donahoe had in mind when he signed free agents Takeo Spikes, Lawyer Milloy and Sam Adams. But in one game?'

Marker Bills draw record TV audience for opener [3:02 PM]
Business First of Buffalo reports: 'According to ratings from Nielsen Media Research and WIVB-TV, the CBS affiliate that broadcast the game, the rating was a 37.5 with a 68 share.'

Marker Buffalo nears pigskin perfection [1:46 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'Defying the laws of gravity and momentum, the allegedly 330-pound Adams somehow managed to cut back at full speed without suffering complete disintegration of a knee or ankle, making it to the end zone without needing to stop for Gatorade, oxygen or a snack.'

Marker Backlash [1:20 PM]
Quincy Patriot Ledger reports: 'In fact, the Pats appeared dazed (pregame Novocain for everyone!) in falling behind, 21-0, with 10:24 left in the second quarter. Their new-look secondary was toasted. Their vaunted pass rush was muffled. Their receivers were invisible. Their quarterback threw four interceptions and slunk back into the locker room at halftime with a utterly ridiculous QB rating of 5.3.'

Marker Milloy's replacement stands up, takes the hit [1:19 PM]
Quincy Patriot Ledger reports: 'Asked if he thought the Pats defensive backfield seemed confused, Moulds (four catches for 81 yards) said: ‘‘At times they did. Sometimes when we used motion with Bobby (Shaw) or Josh (Reed) they got confused. Anytime you have a veteran back there like Milloy, he handles the situation and defuses it. They didn't have that guy to do that today and I think it hurt them a little bit.'''
