Marker Bills defensive line moves on in 2016... Mario-less [1:59 AM]

Marker A dark matter: Secrecy abounds as NFL teams tackle analytics challenge [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“We look at it from a holistic perspective,” Brandon said. “We hired Michael to oversee all of our business analytics at well. He is a crucial part of the mix between marketing and content and the decisions we make in all platforms of our business.'

Marker Risk in losing Gilmore, caution with McCoy, Goodwin's challenge [1:57 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'They’ve managed to draft elite cornerbacks — Antoine Winfield and Nate Clements — to only see those elite cornerbacks leave in free agency. Could Stephon Gilmore be next after the 2016 season? Maybe.'

Marker TE Jim Dray adjusts to life in Buffalo [1:56 AM] reports: '“It’s easy to prove yourself. Just do your job, execute,” Dray said. “The coaches will trust you and put you in there, and you make the most of your opportunities.”'

Marker Bills' Goodwin says if the sports paid the same, he'd take track & field over football [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'When Goodwin joined the Bills as a third-round draft pick from Texas in 2013, he told reporters that he shouldn't be labeled with the stigma of a "track guy" trying to play football. He wanted to make it clear he was a football player first, which is understandable given that "track guys" are perceived as being soft and injury prone. For the record, Goodwin ended up on injured reserve during his rookie season, missed six games in 2014, and was on IR in 2015, appearing in only two games.'

Marker More playoffs-or-else talk, Dareus' mindset & running on full [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Although Whaley is careful not to publicly state that he's safe regardless of the Bills' record this season, Ryan pretty much said that was the case with himself when, during a recent interview with MMQB, he said: "The media looks at it (like), 'Well, we have to win this year.' Or what? Oh, I am going to be fired? I don't think so. I'm not going to worry about it, because we are going to win anyway. But it's like, that is an ultimatum. No."'

Marker Buffalo Bills WR Marquise Goodwin unsurprisingly says he prefers track to football [1:57 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: 'That said, Goodwin might be sacrificing his football career a bit to pursue the Olympics. He's one of the receivers competing for a roster spot behind Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods, but if he qualifies for the Olympics and makes it to the finals, he won't be back at training camp until the middle of August, at which point he would have only three preseason games and a handful of camp practices to win the job.'

Marker Jim Kelly thinks Rex Ryan will be fired if Buffalo Bills miss playoffs in 2016 [1:56 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: 'Look, Jim Kelly is great. He took the Bills to four straight Super Bowls, kicked cancer's ass and continues to give back to the Western New York community. But he doesn't decide whether Ryan gets fired. Neither does Ryan for that matter. The only people who can come to that decision are Terry and Kim Pegula, and they certainly aren't going to make that call in June.'

Marker Fred Jackson investing in Buffalo steakhouse with two former Bills teammates [1:55 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: 'Jackson said he doesn't want the restaurant, which will be located at 200 Delaware Avenue and is scheduled to open in the fall, to have a normal steakhouse feel. He wants there to be more energy, and he thinks the city needs a place like it.'

Marker Reddick competing with Buffalo Bills [1:54 AM]
New Bern Sun Journal reports: '“It’s a business. Some people come and go. You have to stick with it and keep fighting,” Reddick said. “You have to do your part and not worry about anyone else.”'

Marker Bills great Kelly says Ryan must make playoffs to keep job [1:53 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: '"On paper, we look great, and we should be a very good team. But you cannot go to the playoffs, you can't win championships, when you're spending most of your time in the training room (with injuries). You've got to stay healthy. Our key guys have got to stay healthy."'

Marker Rex Ryan must make playoffs or he'll be fired, Jim Kelly says [1:52 AM]
ESPN reports: '"I think Rex will probably be looking for another job," Kelly told "The Jim Rome Show" on Thursday. "I think everybody knows that, including Rex."'

Marker If pay were equal, Bills' Goodwin said he'd choose track over football [1:51 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: '"I would definitely do track and field, man," Goodwin revealed. "Football was my opportunity to advance my life… kind of get a head start on life and put my family in a position to where they wouldn’t want for as much. I felt like track and field wouldn’t grant me that opportunity, being that I had a greater chance at making the amount of money that I do playing football, as opposed to going to track and field, and I would make it a lot sooner. Not saying I wouldn’t make it in track and field, but, I would make it pretty much at a guaranteed rate in football."'

Marker Bills re-sign RB Daniel (Boom) Herron [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'They had picked up a running back off waivers, Dri Archer, but he so far has chosen not to report to the team.'

Marker After yet another death hits close to home, Bills DT Marcell Dareus finds ways to cope [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“He was my guy,” Dareus said. “We went to high school together. He helped me with a lot of stress off the field. He was my security back home. A real, real close friend. He worked at Wells Fargo. Just a real close friend of mine. When I’m home, we’re together somewhere just relaxing.”'

Marker O'Leary might be pushed off roster, Gilmore ready to return & interesting training methods [1:57 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Clay is their only viable tight end. He's the best they have there as a receiver and blocker. Take him away for any length of time, and the Bills' offense would suffer greatly. For that matter, take him away for a day -- as was the case at Wednesday's OTA practice when Clay was missing for an undisclosed non-injury reason -- and you saw the less-than-attractive results.'

Marker Bills release former Syracuse DB Julian Whigham, re-sign Dan 'Boom' Herron [1:56 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: 'Whigham, a multi-year starter for Syracuse, was signed as a free agent after going undrafted in April. He participated in rookie camp and spent more than two weeks with the Bills in organized team activities.'

Marker Marcell Dareus wishes Bills could have done something to keep Mario Williams [1:55 AM]
Syracuse Post Standard reports: '"I mean, he's a big deal to me," Dareus said when asked about his reaction to Williams leaving. "He's a real close friend of mine. I wish we could have did something, but at the same time, hey, it's a business. They're going to do what they have to do. It hit us all different ways, but that's how it is."'

Marker Running back Dan Herron gets 2nd chance with Buffalo Bills [1:54 AM]
AP reports: 'The signing was announced a day after starter LeSean McCoy was the only one of Buffalo's five running backs present for a voluntary practice session.'

Marker Bills re-sign 'Boom' Herron [1:53 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: 'To create a roster spot, the Bills waived former Syracuse defensive back Julian Whigham, the first of the team's 14 undrafted free agents in the 2016 draft class to be released.'

Marker Bills sign RB Boom Herron (again) [1:52 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'With the addition of Herron, the Bills now have six RBs on their roster: LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams, Mike Gillislee, Jonathan Williams, James Wilder Jr, and Herron. They also have two fullbacks - Jerome Felton and Glenn Gronkowksi.'

Marker Brown drawing from dad's football wisdom to become leader of Bills defense [1:51 AM]
WGR-AM reports: '“Definitely,” he said about using his his father’s tutelage now as he and his teammates face the task. “You want to go out there and be the best, and we weren’t that last year, we all know that, and take it into account and seeing what I can improve on and what the whole defense can improve on. And I’m going to make that effort to try to make it happen.”'

Marker Bills bring back RB Boom Herron [1:50 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: 'To keep everyone fresh, there's a chance Herron could stick on through training camp. However, the odds for him making the roster by the end of the summer are long with McCoy, Karlos Williams, Gillislee, and Jonathan Williams all ahead of him at this point.'

Marker No playoffs for Bills? If so, Jim Kelly says Rex Ryan probably out of a job [1:49 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: '"We've got a heck of a football team, but you can't win if you're not on the football field competing and playing," Kelly said. "I just hope we stay healthy, because if we do, and we don't make it, there's no excuses whatsoever."'

Marker Bills Top 20 Talents in 2016: No. 7 - HB LeSean McCoy [1:48 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: 'As for the upcoming season, though, as long as he stays healthy McCoy should be an impact player for the Bills on the offensive side of the ball. This is still a run-oriented offense when things are going their way, and McCoy will be the centerpiece for that system. He showed both an ability on the ground and in the passing attack, which will continue -- all while the Bills have a competent second running back in Karlos Williams to take some pressure and carries off of him. As long as he stays healthy, the Bills should get a big season out of McCoy in 2016.'

Marker Bills Top 20 Talents in 2016: No. 8 - LG Richie Incognito [1:47 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: ' In the upcoming season, Incognito will once again be the starting left guard between Cordy Glenn and Eric Wood, and be chraged with the duties of being the main pulling offensive lineman in Greg Roman's run-heavy scheme. There haven't been any indications of Incognito slowing down this year, and armed with a brand new contract and talent around him, it appears as though Incognito can continue his dominant ways from 2015.'

Marker Bills sign RB Boom Herron [1:46 AM] reports: 'Herron returns to Buffalo after spending time with the team during the 2015 season. The 5-10, 212-pound Ohio State product has played in 35 career games, starting three, and racking up 468 yards and one touchdown on 112 carries. He has also caught 31 passes for 277 yards. Herron, 27, originally entered the league as a sixth round pick (191st overall) of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft.'

Marker RB Jonathan Williams driven by setbacks [1:45 AM] reports: '“That was a moment that he had been waiting for,” said Williams mother. “Every kid is excited about graduating high school and moving onto the next stage. I had been there too. I remember having a good senior year and I went to the University of Oklahoma and I had the best time there. So you want to put your kids before you in a situation like that. You always know the circumstances are going to change.”'

Marker With more responsibility in Bills' D, Preston Brown is turning up the volume and commitment [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"Yeah, it really wasn’t much thought: just talk more," Brown said. "He told me to be more vocal, that’s what I have to do. I mean, if that’s going to help us win games -- me being more vocal, getting people lined up in the right things -- that’s what a Mike linebacker’s supposed to do. So it wasn’t no thinking, it was go out and do it if I want to be here.'

Marker Could IK Enemkpali push for a starting position? 'Absolutely,' Rex Ryan says [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"Absolutely he could do that with Shaq being on the shelf. Yeah, no doubt," Ryan said. "Like I've always said with Manny is Manny can be a catch-all for this team. Outside. Inside. Wherever. You can always play him. But IK's done really well. I think we had him with the one's primarily today. We're bumping guys around and stuff but, yeah, he'll have a chance. IK is a physical player. He's doing a much better job in his pass-coverage responsibility. So I could definitely see him pushing for playing time, without question."'
