Possible playoff run big step up from Buffalo's 2001 horrow show [1:07 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'The Buffalo Bills' bye week offered their players, coaches, fans and analysts a free Sunday to either dwell on or forget last week's humiliation at the hands of Drew Bledsoe's former employer, the New England Patriots. Each of the above groups, save the guys who patched together Buffalo's miserable offensive and defensive game plans, would do well to take the latter option. Getting undressed on national television couldn't have boosted the self-esteem of the players or their faithful, especially after a three-game winning streak and 5-3 start launched premature playoff talk. But to put things in perspective, look back not one week, but 52. A year ago this bye week, the Bills staggered home after another loss to the Patriots, that one in New England. The 21-11 pounding dropped Buffalo to 1-7, with a blitz everyone in Foxboro Stadium could see coming, effectively ending the season for both Rob Johnson and the team he was supposed to save.'

Marv Levy: Buffalo at Kansas City [10:04 AM]
NFL.com reports: Buffalo has been sort of hard to figure. It is still very much in the fight for the AFC East division title. It's a tough place to go into; I've always felt this was the toughest place to go in and play. Buffalo will have the benefit of the bye week and see if it can rebound from that very disappointing loss to New England. The Bills are going against a weak defensive team; Kansas City was last in the league in pass defense. Buffalo will come in with Drew Bledsoe, Eric Moulds and Peerless Price. This could a game where there are a lot of points put up because Buffalo's defense is suspect, too.

NFL hits can cross line into dangerous [5:23 AM]
D and C reports: '“See what you hit,” Gray said. “If you see what you hit, I don’t think there can be any question that you dropped your helmet. You can say, ‘I squared up, I hit him right in the numbers, my facemask was on his body.’ If a guy gets hurt that way and you fine me, then there’s something wrong with the ruling.”'
Bills try to tackle defensive problems [5:22 AM]
D and C reports: '“That’s the thing a lot of young guys don’t do a lot -- go up, form fit the guy, then get out of the way, and then finish that tackle in your mind,” Gray said. “That’s what the great ones do. If you don’t finish in your mind during the week, it’s hard to finish on Sunday.”'

BuffaloBills.com reports: 5:29 a.m.-My alarm goes off and I greet the morning with all of the anticipation that a day of this magnitude can bring. 10 Questions With Peerless Price [9:48 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: "I think Buffalo is a great football town. I think it's more of a college atmosphere. It's just the weather that is the difference."

Crossing the line [5:42 AM]
Boston Phoenix reports: 'In other situations, like in Ralph Wilson Stadium, it’s harder to explain. It’s difficult to believe the Buffalo Bills box office somehow managed to identify potential idiots from afar and handily assigned them to an area that resembles their natural habitat. But perhaps in some circumstances the Bills ticketers do have that power.'
AFC midseason report card [5:41 AM]
ESPN.com reports: The blowout loss to the Patriots was a letdown, but it can't damper an exciting start to the season. No one thought of the Bills being a playoff contender coming into the season. Quarterback Drew Bledsoe passed for 2,802 yards and did a remarkable job of getting the ball to the outside receivers. Eric Moulds had 62 receptions for 853 yards and Peerless Price was right behind him with 60 receptions for 838 yards. The success on offense made Bills fans forget the problems on defense, which resurfaced against the Patriots. The schedule toughens in the second half, but Gregg Williams has a great chance to get this team to eight or nine wins, which is a big step after a 3-13 season.

BuffaloBills.com reports: Price had a team-high nine receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown against New England. He extended his consecutive games with a reception streak to 48 with a 16-yard catch in the second quarter. His fifth reception of the day, a 17-yard effort in the third quarter, was his 56th grab of the season and established a new single-season high for the fourth-year wide receiver.
